Reason for pickup change: The original pickups (ibanez P&J-bass) sounded too close
Sound

No Opinion
Perceived output level: More power than the original. So strong my Trace elliot boxer65 sometimes distorts...
Tone: All the 'power-middle' you'd expect from a musicman pickup. Lacks a bit of lows to my own taste
Sonic evaluation: Sounds fantastic on my trace elliot boxer 65(12") (volume not at the maximum on the bass to avoid distorsion). Lots of musicman-like mids. Got more bass on my hartke 1415 (15"). The other pickup (SD Hot P-bass) gives me a very different tone (more lows), so this is a very versatile setup. The pickup is now wired in parallell but I'm planning to install a switch to have the serial/single/parallel combination.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I'm playing in a rock band and this pickup sounds great. It has more presence than the Hot P-bass.

Comments: I can't afford a real Music man bass. So this is a very good choice if you want a close sound without the price. I also play yamaha active basses (RBX765A) with a fantastic tone too. But when i need to be heard without turning up the volume, that's THE sound.
I only wish i had a real MM...
