Features :
Pickup features: Humbucking passive
Impedence or other specs:

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: Samick P/J
Position: neck
Pickup being replaced: Stock P pickup
Other pickups on guitar: SJB-2 replaced stock bridge J pickup at the same time as the SPB-2
Artists using this pickup: Probably not a lot of really well known ones simply because there ARE higher quality pickups out there that they could afford
You musical style(s): Jazz, blues, classic rock, funk
Reason for pickup change: Severe case of GAS. Severe.

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: A lot more than the stock
Tone: The bottom has teeth, and there's some sweet midrange in there
Sonic evaluation: SBP-2 and SJB-2 into Aguilar OBP-3 (bass also with Leo Quan Badass II), and then into either a Yorkville BM100 or a Peavey Microbass 20watt.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Fantastic for classic funk, especially with a little bit of boost. Basically, everything you'd normally use a p-bass for. A little less thump, a little more punch

Overall Rating : 10
Comments: I would indeed buy this pickup again should it be stolen/disabled for whatever reason. I'm very, very happy with the sound from this bugger. I've been playing for about a year and a half, and this is in my only bass. I was going to get a G&L Tribute L2500 but the same day I lost my job due to a rather irresponsible move involving a chicken mcnugget, so I was unable to buy the bass -- but I had enough for p'ups, so I bought the SPB-2 and the SJB-2 that night! I can't really compare this to other pickups, seeing as how this is my first change. It does have a lot nicer (to my ears, anyway) tone than my old pickup though, which is stock on an entry-level Samick P/J. The only thing I hated was the installation, because they don't supply usable foam, but I didn't have to do the installation myself so it's all golden. I don't think I could wish more of a Precision pickup...I don't have the experience to know AMAZING sound when I hear it, just something that sounds great to my ears. I am satisfied with the pickup, but I'm still searching for "that sound" with strings (I strung up with TI Jazz Rounds when I installed this and I hate the feel) but for now, that's a technique/strings issue. Pickups are great, preamp's fantastic, bridge is great, amp is fine for now, it's just strings and technique.
I would definitely reccomend this particular preamp. When you mix it with the SJB-2 you can get a fantastic, fat slap tone. The only problem is with the two at full, the output on the D and G strings is slightly lower, but that's fixable with some creative string height/pickup height tweaking.

Features :
Pickup features: Split Humbucking
Impedence or other specs:

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: "65 Fender Precision
Position: middle
Pickup being replaced: Seymour Duncan Vintage P-bass---PB-1
Other pickups on guitar:
Artists using this pickup:
You musical style(s): Blues/R&B/Classic Rock/Pop
Reason for pickup change: Curiosity.

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: 20% Hotter than stock or typical vintage output
Tone: Middy and scratchy
Sonic evaluation: This is my main gigging bass and rig. A 65 Fender p-bass through an Ampeg SVT ProIII head into a 70s Ampeg B-15s cab and an Eden 210t cab.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I used this pickup on two different blues gigs and hated it.

Overall Rating : 4
Comments: I can never leave well enough alone. My bass sounds good but I just need to know what does what. I thought I might get more balls and dynamic range from this pickup but all I got was a significantly louder obnoxious midrangey and scratchy tone with little or no improvement in dynamics. I removed it imediately and went back to my old Seymour Duncan vintage pickup. I also tried a Lindy Fralin vintage type, it was also a bit scratchy for my taste. I tried a Seymour 1/4lb with better results, it had a deep punchy low end with much hotter than stock output, much improved dynamic response, but it also has a treble or high mid boost which didn't work for me.(yes, you do see a pattern here, I don't like upper mid frequencies!) I'm back to using the Seymour vintage pickup but I'll probably try some more passive models. I'd like to find something with the low end punch of the 1/4lber but with the smoother highs of a vintage pickup. Oh yeah, I've been playing professionally for 18yrs. Good luck with your search for tone!

Features :
Pickup features: Hum Cancelling P-Bass Replacment
Impedence or other specs: DCR=22.4k, Very hot output

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: Fender 2001 MIM Precision
Position: middle
Pickup being replaced: Stock MIM pickup
Other pickups on guitar: None
Artists using this pickup:
You musical style(s): Blues
Reason for pickup change: GAS

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: Very high output compared to stock
Tone: Very hot mids, very even loudness between strings; *** NO THUMP ***
Sonic evaluation: I gig constantly with an SWR IOD bi-amped with Rane balanced signal processing, DBX 120a sub-synth, and multiple 15" true subs for lows, and JBL E110s for highs. Power is a PLX 3002. This is a full-range, HiFi bass rig.
The stock MIM was bland and low output, but had lots of Fender thump with my TI Flats. I went to the Duncan Hot P which is much louder, has no thump, and is very brazen in the mids. Very similar to turning the Mids boost on the IOD way up. The Duncan Hot P tone is not for me. I replaced the Hot P with a DiMarzio DP146 Will Power Middle which has much better tone, but also has no thump. It appears the percussive "thump" goes away with high output pickups.
IMO, the SPB-2 provides excellent cut in a noisy live environment, but I don't like the tone. The very high DC resistance tells me this is a heavily over-wound pickup.. far more than the QB or Vintage types, hence the heavily accentuated mids.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Finger style blues

Overall Rating : 9
Comments: I would not buy this pickup again because it is not my sound.
Installing Duncan pickups requires extra work because the install kit is completely useless. Get some foam and be prepared to cut and fit as required. The Duncan is MUCH thinner than the stock MIM pickup, so substantial filler is required to reach the installed height. Unlike the DiMarzio pickups, the Duncan split-P halves are factory connected with a short wire. You will have to break and extend this interconnecting wire, if you want to wire for Series/Parallel operation. I did this on my MIM P with the DiMarzio, and it offers another useful tone in Parallel mode. Stock mode is Series.
My 9 rating is for the quality of the product, not the sound. I'd give the Duncan a 10 if it had a better install kit.

Features :
Pickup features: Humbucking - passive
Impedence or other specs:

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: Peavey Milestone II
Position: middle
Pickup being replaced: original
Other pickups on guitar:
Artists using this pickup:
You musical style(s): Rock, Blues
Reason for pickup change: Old pickups were starting to short out. Also, they had absolutely no low end response. Since this is a low end bass setup, any new pickup would be a marked inprovement.

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: A definite improvement in low end response. Provides a very nice growl. Compared to the replaced pickups, the output levels were a 100 % improvement
Tone: Well balanced growl
Sonic evaluation: My Peavey bass/Carvin amp combination with the Seymour Duncan Hot P Bass pickup has provided me with a great low end sound and the ability to hold high end notes much longer.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Currently I am playing with a Christian rock band. The new pickups are a great match and also give some old time favorites some needed kick.

Overall Rating : 9
Comments: Overall I am very happy with this new set up. It is my first bass guitar and I am still looking to upgrade. But the Seymour Duncan pickups have greatly improved my current setup and allowed my more time to search for a upgrade.
