The sound of these replacement pick ups do change the sound of a rickenbacker bass and not for the good i went back to the original pick up's because of the sound. There was no warm bass sound and the high end gets very muddy and distorted not a good set of replacement pick up's.

Ricky owner out there don't change your pick up's, rickenbackers are made to sound like rickenbacker only, and srb-1 replacement pick up's make it sound like a cheap bass guitar.

Features
:
Humbucker upgrade to a Rickenbacker 4003 bass. Alnico 5 blade magnets on the bridge pickup. The neck pickup uses two ceramic magnets. This is a passive system.
Instrument
:
Replaced both stock single coils in a Rickenbacker 4003. I wanted a more balanced sound. The stock pickups were very weak on the "E" string. I tried adjusting the pickups but without being able to adjust the pole pieces there was just no way.

The output is MUCH hotter than stock pickups. I am using an Alessanrdo Basset Hound all tube amp and really had to dial the volume knob back to achieve the same realtive volume setting with regard to the stock pickups. There is a more balanced string to string sound now. These pickups really make a Ricky growl. I love the sound.

This is a great replacement for the sound. You won't loose a lot of that Ricky signature sound. However, the installation really turns a beautiful bass into an ugly instrument. Stock, the Ricky oozes style and sophistication. The replacement neck pickup rounded edges leave a pretty significant gap in the square hole cut in the pickgaurd and the rear pickup totaly elimiates the chrome "horseshoe" and adds a pretty clunky looking big flat piece of plastic for the pickup mount. You can't tell me a company as good as Seymour Duncan couldn't come up with a better looking set of replacement pickups. This mod is DEFINATELY a sound/look trade-off.
