The Alleva Coppolo LM5 is characterize as a 70's fender style bass (notice I used the word style before the word bass). It consist of an Ash Body, Maple Neck and Fingerboard. It has Volume, Volume(also acts as a push/pull active/passive knob), Tone, Treble and Bass knobs. The tone knob effect is similar to what fender's tone knob does which is a treble roll off. This has a great effect which brings it to sound very vintage like. Along with Jimmy's pre, choices of wood and his hands this bass is right in the vintage fender mode, and to my ears surpasses the 70's fenders I have owned or tried.
The weight is what Jimmy calls his medium weighted basses. Its about 10 pounds or alittle bit over. The pickups are also placed in the area's of the 70 fenders. Jimmy builds his own pickups. You can order others but if I were you, really consider his as they are incredible.
He also has tuner options. I took the mini lollypops. Similar to the lollypop tuners of the 66 jazz bass.

Sound : 10
If Leo Fender was in charge of making the 70's fender Jazz, I think he would want it Jimmy's way. Hand made pickups, aged woods, better made bridges and tuners. In other words more of the makers hands on the bass rather than having many other hands and manufatureres making bass parts and maybe the owner putting his sticker on the headstock.
But Jimmy being in charge of its biginnings and ending has created a great sounding bass. I don't know what his mission statement was but this bass is beyond Vintage. If you are looking for a great sounding fender J than this is the Bass. Not only does it cuts through the mix but it has alot of authority in that it does not lose sight of its tone. It plays so clearly and the feel is second to none. It may be a 70's style Vintage Fender but it also has charaters of the 60's and 50's but with authority.
I have owned and still have many great basses which I think would be unfair to mention, But this is the best Bass I have ever owned. Well worth the price. Best deal in town.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I have a very thin poly finish. He also makes nitro finishes that are similar to the 60's and 50's fenders. They will age faster than mine. Some feel there is a tone difference but it may be the reason why jimmy uses a very thin layer on his poly finishes also. Again I am not sure there is a tone difference between both finishes.
I have Jimmy own pickups and pre. Now there is a con to this. His pickups are one of a kind. Not only in sound but in size. You get his and you will not get replacements. But thats OK with me. I love them and will not want to change a thing. I will not raise or lower the pickups or change fret sizes. Nothinggggggggggg. Its perfect the way it is.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Its new so I can't comment if the finish will wear off quickly or if it will chip easily. But all that makes the bass look great. Right.
All in all its too early to tell.
