It's a Musicman knock-off, something when I saw for the first time, I thought it would compare to a low-end Squier, all though it represented a Stingray very well, 21 frets, a humbucker pickup, the way the tuners and the headstock are even almost exactly the same. Very cool.

Considering it was $145, and it was used and somewhat beat up i figured it would sound like total crap, but it sounded awesome, especially with passive pickups. I have a Warmoth/Allparts jazz bass I built with active pickups and this bass doesnt sound bad compared to that, and it sounds a lot better than my MIM pbass. Only problem was when i bought it the wiring was changed around so there was no volume and you couldnt really change the tone much, but I assume that was becuase whoever had it before me was changing stuff. All though the passive pickups sound good, I thought getting a Seymour Duncan Musicman preamp would spice it up, and i am in the middle of putting that in. It's gonna sound better than any bass I've ever heard.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

When I got it, there was minor dings and scratches all over the place, mostly belt rash though, but this was definately becuase it was used. All though I don't like the color (transparent deep red) I have to admit the finish is very nice for being a $250 bass. As beat up as it is, there is no dings or scratches penitraiting the paint. The action, is absolutely amazing, the composit fretboard and the low action, I love it. It definately feels better than the Allparts jazz bass neck i have, which was as much as this whole bass.

I haven't really had it long enough to throw it around or beat it up anymore than it all ready is, I gigged it a few times though. Practicing at home I bumped the headstock and it was still in perfect tune. I definately say this is a very durable bass. As long as I've had it, nothing has had to been fixed or even adjusted or anything.

I've been playing bass for 2 years now, and this was the best $145 I've spent on any thing for my bass stuff. I play a lot of punk stuff but I'm getting a grip on funk and slap and even a little jazz. Once I get that preamp in this will easily compare to my $950 jazz bass and a lot of other basses. Its no Vigier or anything but its a lot better than anything else I've played. If it was stolen, I would definately go get another one. For the price, its an amazing value.

Brand new, made in Korea, 21 fret 4 string, Music Man copy. Body is made of basswood, Superphenol (composite wood) fretboard, Canadian maple neck, also the neck has a slight jazz bass taper, 1 volume and 2 tone controls, passive electronics, humbucking soapbar pickup, chrome hardware. Mine has a burgundy burst, with a 3-ply white/black/white pickguard. I had a black/white/black pickguard made for $40 (looks awesome!)Price included a gig bag

I play all types of rock, hard rock, punk, emo, melodic emo-core, heavy metal, alt etc...some blues. And I play with a pick. This bass fits any and all rock styles and beyond! I play this through a Behringer BX1200 (awesome combo!) This thing sounds great, it should cost much more than $255, I've played a Music Man I don't think it's worth the extra $800. You can dial in so many different tones, this bass has made me want to expand the types of music I play. You can play it warm and full to extremely growly, to jazzy and trebly, has tons of low end. Although I think it's a bit noisy when dialing in the jazz sound, turn the pickup volume down a little and you can reduce much of the noise. Variety seems so unlimited. And the sustain is great, it seems like a strike a note and it rings, and rings...and rings, stays in tune great too. For being passive, this thing sounds almost identical to a Stingray. I'll probably replace the pickup eventually with something a little hotter, higher output, but for stock the electronics are great. Too be honest I like this a bit better because of the tapered neck.

Finish had a few minor flaws, but I suspect the shady E-bay store I purchased it from "stretched the truth" about it being brand new. Very small ding in the front of the body, neck has 1 or 2 little scratches. But overall the finish looks beautiful. The small imperfections are barely noticeable. The control knobs are all very sturdy and the tuners are good. Burgundy finish is definately the way to go! Factory set up was aweful unfortunately. The graphite nut wasn't set in place, it was sticking out about 1/4 of an inch off to one side? Action was too low, I was getting horrible buzzing all over the fretboard. Had a local bass shop throw in Ernie Ball Power Slinky Strings ($18), and do an entire set up (it'll cost you about $25-$30) and set the graphite nut in with a touch of wood glue and wow....night and day. I'm going to downgrade this category because the factory set up was garbage, but after a new set up and strings it's a definite 10! I get so many compliments on the finish, people just give me a wierd look when I tell them it's not a Music Man

I will definately gig with this bass, but with a backup. I ALWAYS have a backup though, you never know what could go wrong. The finish is very thick, I've banged this thing into just about every piece of furniture in my room and it's never taken any of the finish off, I'v dropped it a couple of times too! That strap locks are decent, but I'll probably upgrade them for the simple fact that I move around alot on stage. I've had the bass for almost 6 months and I've never had to adjust the neck. I have a feeling this bass will last me a very long time.

Aslin Dane is a great company. I emailed them 3 or 4 times before I purchased this. The were very quick to respond, usually 24 hours or less. I've spoke with them on the phone, very pleasant demeanor. Not sure if thing has a warranty though, I think it may have a 1 year warranty if I remember correctly

I have not been playing bass for long, about 3 years. I own a Fender Jazz Bass MIM, Fender Jazz Bass (jap), Fender P-bass deluxe, and a Dean Performer CE acoustic bass. I'm also a left handed player. I would definately purchase this bass again if it were stolen. I'd pay twice the price. If you're looking for an afford Music Man alternative, or just a really phenominal bass, this is the way to go!! You will certainly not be disappointed!

On the neck it says made in china, nice finish though the 5 string edition in my local shop appeared to have a nicer paintjob. I just dont like 5 sting basses. The neck is nice and thin, the Superphenol fingerboard plays really good en seems te be build to last. it came with a hardcase, nice cable and a pear of extra strings

I'm not sure when it was made, but its a stingray with a different name, as far as im concerned... single humbucker, body, and even tuner configuration were modeled after it. nice, relatively slim neck, smoooooth feel. one volume, 2 tone knobs. just shield and reground it, tweak the intonation and VOILA! its a musicman.

my style ranges from punk to rock to blues and funk and can play all these well. getting a 'flea' slap/funk style is no trick and the full, sweet sound is great. back the treble off and you get a smooth jazz sound. kick up the treble and it has all the punch and clarity needed for rock and punk. i havent wanted a sound that i couldnt get from this bass. close your eyes and its a $1500 stingray

I've noticed that the comments about this bass usually say that the action and setup were terrible but it was pretty close when i got it. i wasnt happy with the color it came with so i completely disassembled it to refinish it. i expected that a $250 knock-off would have cheap wood or even a laminate, but when i took a power sander to it, the wood underneath polished very well and even had a beautiful grain to it - enough so that, with a good stain and urethane, it would compare to anything out there, short of flamed and quilted maple, of course. after i had it painted, i put extra shielding in the electronics compartment and the pickup cavity and used better grounded wire. when i put it back together after the new paintjob and modifications, then reset the action and intonation, it performed as good as ANY bass ive played. with a decent ground and shield job, its perfectly silent between notes. a dream to play... very comfortable neck... stays in tune for DAYS it seems. it just takes some know-how and TLC to make it reach its full potential, which is considerable - solid, sweet and beautiful as any 1500 dollar stingray out there.

Again, with the right adjustments, this bass can stand up right next to the fenders, musicmans, alembics, etc. straplocks are a must, though. before i installed them, the strap slipped off during a show and the bass went crashing to the stage. i quickly put it back on and continued playing, figuring that the tuning was way out of whack, but the show must go on... IT WAS STILL IN PERFECT TUNE!. since i put it back together after refinishing it, i've never needed to adjust it. a very reliable solid performer

A MusicMan Stingray copy. Mine is a lefty and as Stingrays go, it contains one dual coil humbucker. Instead of the active circuit, it contains a passive volume, 2 tones (one for each coil) and a pull switch on one tone control to tap the coil. The bridge and tuners are of pretty low quality but I was happy with the amount of area they used to mount the bridge for further tone transfer. Neck is maple with "phenowood" fretboard in a semi-jazz taper. Nice to have a jazz taper on a MusicMan style bass. I imagine that the phenowood board will withstand weather changes better than ebony, maple or rosewood.
Sound
:

Darn good sound for a Korean knock-off! The humbucker sounds very close to a MusicMan style. I still think adding a BassLines MM preamp to the existing pickup will bring the MM sound even closer. MM basses get alot of their sound from a combination of the humbucking pickup and preamp. Plus, having the mid control is a major plus. I did notice the pickup was routed closer to the bridge than a standard MM. I personally prefer this mounting since harmonics are easier to come by closer to the bridge. The toss-up is that the pickup is no longer in the harmonic sweetspot for funk/finger style though it is close.

:

Great cherry sunburst finish!! Horrendous strings came on the bass in addition to a VERY poor setup. In fact, no setup at all. Crazy action, bad intonation, etc. Actually a mess when I got it and it was new. A few tweaks and some good strings and the bass will be outstanding. Just be patient with it when you get it.

Again, hardware is substandard cheap stuff. The tuners could use a replace at least and perhaps better bridge saddles. Otherwise, not too bad. I would definately depend on this bass. It's pretty solid.

It's one of many basses for me. I stupidly unloaded a MM Sterling lefty some time ago and really regret it. This will be a good project bass to get back most of that MM sound I miss so much. The MM sound is VERY good for cutting through mixes both recording and in live situations. I recommend these basses. With a little TLC and some minor changes, they could very well cut it as a full time bass!!

As an avid semi-pro of nearly 30 years, I am constantly picking up new axes. My burgundy burst was made in Korea, 1999 (?) with maple neck and the composite fingerboard.
The electronics were a bit confusing at first, but once I was used to them, found they offer a wide tonal range.
I am kind of old-school, and used to my old Fenders and Rickenbacher 4001, so passive electronics are OK by me.
Sound

The sound is very rich and excellent for recording. You can get a nice deep tone or go very bright and punchy.
Live, the humbucker is very powerful and provides a really full sound, even outside.

Initially, my setup was pretty bad (i.e., very low action) and there was a lot of buzzing. I had it adjusted and put some round-wound Rotosound strings on it, and now it sounds better than any bass in this price range. The first tone knob is a bit noisy going into the treble range, but its tolerable.
The humbucker is nice and even and quite powerful.

This bass seems very durable. I've knocked it off its stand a few times, and it remained in tune even after hitting the floor.
The finish is really gorgeous and again seems very durable.
I find that with the exception of my initial re-adjustment, this bass requires very little maintenance.
In terms of dependability, I wouldn't hesitate to gig without a backup.

I've been playing a long time, and own a variety of guitars and basses.
The only thing that would have enhanced the buying experience would have been a more knowledgeable dealer. They really didnt know much about this bass other than that it had the composite fingerboard.
I would really like it if the coil-tap features of the tone controls were physically notched for more precise adjustment.

This is an amazing bass. The first time I played it live, my friend, also a bass player, said "That bass cost you like $3,000, right." I laughed at him. It is an almost exact replica of a Musicman Stingray bass. The only changes I am making on this bass is adding a black pickguard, so it will look even cooler on the already cool Redburst finish.

I purchased this bass one year ago and have loved every minute well almost. The Aslin Dane was made in Japan and the construction is wonderful. This 4 string features a superpheonl fingerboard, graphite nut and Basswood body, double cutaway one volume and two tone knobs, and crome hardware. It features a music man style hummbucker, although it is not active it still sounds good. The Aslin dane also has jumo frets and a really nice finish.

This bass plays really well. It looks like a stingray and sounds very similar. The price was very reasonable. The company is US but this model was made in Korea, I was told it is assembled and set up in usa. so the the dealer said.
It has jumbo frets and graphite composite fingerboard and a beautiful burgundy sunburst finish. The neck feels incredible which is what sold me from the beginning. The sound was also accurate. Although non active, it does have a music man style humbucker. There's a coil tap in the 3rd tone control position. I've never seen this before. It's a knob instead of the usual switch so can dial in a single coil fender sound.sounds like a Jazz bass in the tap mode. Its not just on /off either. as you turn it you get a variety of gain and tone settings.
The bridge and hardware seem well made and are fully adjustable. The tuners work well and it has a graphite nut

I play funk and R&B. It has a really good slap sound and fat bottom
My rig is a variety of amps from SWR to Ampeg.
In the humbucking mode it's dead quiet. When you tap it it picks up a little hum like most single coils...but not as much..The tone is pretty virsatile. It goes from brite with a lot of midrange to a thick and punchy tone easily. when turning the tap control there is a noticeable volume boost when moving from single coil to humbucking . it almost sounds active. For a passive circuit, it surprised me

When I first saw this bass I thought it was a real stingray until i saw the name on the headstock. The only differences between this bass an the stingray is that there are four knobs on the sting ray and the tuners on my bass are a little differently placed. there are two on the top and two on the bottom instead of three on the top and one on the bottom. This is because the stingray's headstock and tuner placement are patented. But this was no problem because all i had to do was flip the tuning peg thing and now the tuners look exactly like that on the stingray. So other than that the bass had an awesome action, fit, and fitness.
