This instrument is a laminated version of Azola's hand carved baby bass. It features a 41.5" scale tilt-adjustable maple neck with an Golden Rosewood fingerboard. The body has an arched Maple top and back with Ash sides. The electronics are dual piezo pickups mounted in the bridge with a passive volume & tone (arco sensitivity) controls. It also includes an adjustable endpin and gig bag. Azola offers many options on their instruments including finish, electroncis, 5 & 6 string, etc. I opted to also purchase a stand for the instrument, which I highly recommend.
Sound

The sound of this bass is VERY upright like. I have played some EUBs that sound more like big fretless basses. This is definitely from the acoustic upright family not the electric bass family. The tone is suprisingly flexible and provides usable sounds, as opposed to novelty tones.
I have used this on many gigs and have, without exception, gotten positve feedback on the sound (an appearance) of this bass every time. It has a very big, round tone which is equally at home supporting a Pop tune as it is walking through a jazz chorus.
Action, Fit, & Finish

I've owned two Azola basses over the last thee years and have been elated with both of them. The finish is flawless and the overall craftsmanship is as good as anything I've ever played. After being shipped literally from coast to coast, it came out of the box in tune and with a perfect set-up. Pretty amazing for an upright bass.

As mentioned, this bass has seen many gigs and it has never let me down. The bass sounds the same every night in every room. Which is very important for me. If something doesn't sound right, the last piece of my signal chain that I worry about is the Azola.
Also, in a year of gigging in different climates around the east coast and bouncing around in the back of a van, it has never needed a set-up.

Azola is the absolute best in customer service. They are the Nortsroms of the instrument world. Steve and Jill will answer any question you have and they will make sure you pick the instrument that is right for you. I have also heard similar remarks from many other Azola customers.
