This outstanding Laminated Acoustic Baby Bass is a 41.5" scale Electric Acoustic Upright. Simply put.... a Masterpiece. It has an arched Maple back & top. A Maple neck with beautiful Ebony fretboard and side position markers. The finish is in a light Honey with Custom "HOT ROD FLAMES". The pick-up system consists of dual-element piezos which are bridge mounted. It came with Thomastik Spirocore Strings, black hardware, an adjustable pin, gig bag and stand.

Sound : 10
I'm amazed with the sound of this bass...I collect vintage and high end basses and could not find an EUB that had the look, feel and sound of the AZOLA. Nothing came close. The string to string balance is literaly perfect on this bass with no need of heavy amp EQ as with many of its competitors. Be it an open "E" or way up the "G" string...the sound is superb.... No boomy , muddy lows or lost high end....It achieves the warmth of a Double bass with that "woody sound". In all fairness, I do not own a Doublebass for a side by side comparison as a Symphony Player may feel very differently about this type bass. I own several different amplifiers but use this bass primarily with a Carvin 1000 watt RL1000 and a single SWR Goliath III 4x10" or a Gallien Kruger 800RB and two 15s. The open "E" can shake a room like no other.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The bass was delivered well packaged in a large "Coffin" style box. Set up perfect right from the factory...The Azola plant is close to me in California so it did not experience any temperature extremes as I don't know what impact that would have on the instrument.
Workmanship....flat out perfect. I can't find one flaw other than a very small check by the neck the neck body joint which is virtually invisible. No sand marks, no finish problems...Exceptional in every way. All hardware was tight and securely mounted. The action is fantastic. Clearly not for the slappers...raising the action would ruin this fine instrument...I could have easily taken it out the first day I received it and did a gig...

Reliability/Durability : 10
It difficult to tell how durable the instrument is. All joints and the neck to body joint seem very strong and secure. The size of the instrument, about the size of a Cello is where damage could arise, not a fault of AZOLA. Although it came with a nicely padded gigbag...care will be needed in transportation. I will add that the stand is very secure and even if you walked right into it, I think you would have a hard time knocking it over. It really deserves a hardcase but they are pricey....I may build one to save a few dollars..

Customer Support : 10
Of the 18 basses I currently own, purchasing my "Baby" from Steve & Jill Azola was my exciting and fun adventure to date. I also own a few ALembics and although they are my first choice of solid body Basses, they didn't make the cut with their EUB. I'm not sure what the warantee is, but the personalized service with follow thru on how you're enjoying the Bass makes you feel like your part of the family. I'd bet they are warranted for life...I will definitely order more basses from Azola although it's hard to imagine needing another EUB...Just one "Baby" is all it took for me.

Overall Rating : 10
I have absolutely no buyers remorse with this purchase. This is one of my more expensive basses and I would have loved to purchase one on the used market but you'll just not find them. Although there are other basses that are much less expensive, I strongly feel that the true acoustic body of the bass along with the ability to lean into it when playing makes for the closest double bass experience you can have with amplification and a reasonable size. 100% satisified.
