few days ago I came across the Bacchus stand in Shanghai music expo. The bass I particularly liked is a 4 string fretted 24 frets about to be in production soon. it's hand made in japan and sports a solid Ash Jazz style body very smoothly finished in transparent oil and a maple neck and fingerboard that feels just right. The electronic is active and the single coil pick ups are hand made as well as the very precise bridge. Controls are volume, p.u. blend, middle tone and one double knob - like the early fender jazz - with bass and treble control.
I partcoularly like the choice of making the middle tone control more readily available. It also features a transparent pick guard whitch I personally don't think is necessary and would ged rid of as it might interfere while slaping.

since I don't actually own one - but I will most probably soon - my impressions are few but very clear. It rocks, it really kicks asses. The sound has loads of attack and its very tight. The electronics is flexible enough to do a great job but what really matters to me is that the basic sound is really nice and I just had to leave the tone on flat - just a tuch of middle and add a little of the p.u. at the bridge. that's it. in this setting it would fit whatever I want to play - funk, R&B, soul, jazz, pop. Bright and rich the basic tone is great for fingering and slap and that was with no effects and the amp on flat. No hum or undesirable noise.

mounting strings 45 - 105 the action was very confortable and smooth. slap was great fun and i love the way the bass reacts and my thumb bounces back. very addictive. The freets are perfect and the neck feels comfy.

Can't tell but I looks so well done I would bet it is designed to last. Anyway I wouldn't care if the finish that wears off, is the sign that you enjoy playing it.

I own a Tobias 5 strings, a Wal freatless and a JD Mark King and owned Music man, Rickenbacker, F Precision. for what i've experienced this Bacchus has little to envy to them and I think it's a great deal being also considerably cheaper.
It makes me think of the Fender Jazz M Miller but between the two I think I would choose the Bacchus. You can feel the difference under your finger, you can tell it's hand made. I must say that it feels as good as basses of higher league - and price. Great stuff.
