I love jazz and I can close my eyes and THIS IS IT !!!I use Acoustic amps with EQs and get any sound I want...It sounds as good as it looks !!I play for pleasure and am amazed to the fullness of sound it gives....

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
set up was perfect..no adjustment was needed....neck is flawless..one of the many reasons I love birdsongs and prefer them over several of my other basses which include Carl Thompsons, Fenders, spectors,Warriors and others....The naural wood finish is as soft as a newborn babies bottom and all the hardware is SOLID !

Reliability/Durability : 10
As for Reliabilty and Durability____ This is my 7th Birdsong(with 2 more in production and more in planning) and each time my expectations have been surpassed with what I want !! and This cortofusion goes again well past I expected to receive and play...AMAZING !!!I plan to past this bass as well as the other Birdsongs to my children who will enjoy and plat for many years to come......

I cant say enough about Birdsongs support..Scott and Jamie are fantastic..from the beginning..in the middle..at the end...and after the end ,because there are no issues..but you now want to get another Birdsong !!!..they have a 7 day return policy and a 5 year warranty.....Wish I could give a higher score than 10....

Overall Rating : 10

Made in 2006 in Wimberly, Tx. 4-string, 2-piece walnut body w/oil/poly blend finish, Maple Neck w/Rosewood fretboard and 24 frets and tilt-back head, single passive Lace humbucker at the neck, 31" scale, Hipshot Ultralights, Hipshot A-style bridge, black hardware, recessed Dunlop strap locks, Volume + 6-way Varitone knob. Included hardshell guitar case.

It has all of the features I wanted and I had a lot of options that I passed on.

Sound : 10
I'm playing all kinds of stuff with it, although the styles are most likely to run from classic rock and country through jazz. As one person said "when you originally described this, I thought it would be a one trick pony." I was fine with that, as long as it was the one trick I wanted - but has a lot more possibilities than that. The first two varitone settings are bypass and a more mid-range rock sound. Settings 3 and 4 are "upright-like" and very deep and warm. Settings 5 and 6 were a HUGE surprise - they sound slightly overdriven. I'm playing through a GK Backline and the bass is absolutely quiet - no hum at all.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Fantastic all the way around. Scott and Jamie (and their helpers) did some amazing work. The action was actually lower than I was expecting, based on advanced notice about how Scott thinks they should be set up. Fast as hell. The finish is remarkable. The only adjusting I had to do was to move the G-string bridge saddle in a little bit to compensate for my sloppy technique.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Outside of the fact that it has an oil finish that won't provide the kind of bulletproof finish that a hard plastic shell will, this thing certainly feels indestructable. The finish will wear over time - but I like that, and it's repairable if needed.

Customer Support : 10
I know another reviewer had a similar experience - The Birdsong folks left for vacation the week after the bass was finished. They shipped it from the road and provided their cell phone number so I could reach them on their vacation to let them know it had arrived safely. When I got ahold of them, they answered all of my questions and then some.

5 year warranty, 7 day return policy, off the charts in terms of customer service.

Overall Rating : 10
20 years playing (off and on). I have a handful of other basses (a Breedlove Acoustic Fretless and a Fender Jazz 24 were the main basses before this one). I sold a Pedulla MVP to buy this bass in order to fulfill a 7 year old dream. If stolen or lost, I would replace it in a heartbeat - but it's irreplacable. It is easily the most playable, warmest, most badass instrument I've laid hands on.

This wasn't a "custom bass" but prototype for a new line that Birdsong will be offering - but the level of control over the little stuff and involvement in the process made it "custom" in ever sense that counted.
