I don't exactly remeber what it is made out of but I do like the 3(?) tones and 1 volume.

Sound : 8
Great. Not to aggresive mut not to light either. This was my first bass and I still have it. I really like it. It either beats of matches $2000 and up Warwick models is sound.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
I bought mine off of Craig's List and it had a dead fret I had to get looked at. Pick ups were just fine. Only flaw I see is that one of the tone knobs is put on so that when you turn it all the way to the right, the little inground dot is not where it should be.

Reliability/Durability : 7
Scratches show. But the wood is beautiful. Maple or oak I can't remember. It's neck (redwood or mahogany) is great looking. It's a bit heavy and feels durable. Accept with scratches. It is a solid bass.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had a problem so I never to call Cort.

Overall Rating : 8
I love this bass. I fell in love with it the first time I held it. I've kept it and babied it. I always put it back in its case because I'm paranioed it would fall and scratch.

Mahogany body, Wenge fretboard. Through-the-neck construction, Bartolini pickups (with active EQ), 5 strings, active/passive switch. "Natural open pore" finish.

Made in Korea (like most Corts, except those AWFUL "action" series basses made in Indonesia, which I tried for a laugh and was shocked how bad they are!).

Sound : 10
I'm pretty much a straight bass player, do very few "solo" bits and no slapping but like to play fast, intricate fingerstyle basslines and appreciate something that has got some flexibility in terms of tone. Boy, does this bass have flexibility. Even when EQ is pretty flat, a lovely aggressive growl comes through, but by tweaking you can get just about any other tone you like. On stage (I play through a Fender Rumble 100), it is very easy to cut through the mix without needing excessive volume.

5th string is loose-ish (34 inch scale length on this bass), but the tone of it is strong and deep.

The "bass" knob on the EQ is positively monstrous - go from just 5 to 6 and "making your presence felt" is a total understatement. Awesome.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Action, intonation pretty much perfect "out of the box" - this was purchased through Marshall Music in Woodmead, Johannesburg (South Africa), so not sure if they did any work on it.

No flaws that I've noticed - yet.

Reliability/Durability : 8
I think you have to be very careful with this bass on stage - the finish is beautiful but totally unprotected and the "natural" finish is going to show nicks and scratches very easily. Provided you take care of it, I don't see why it shouldn't last, though.

Through-the-neck construction to me is very pleasing aesthetically, also makes thinner/lighter body possible. Very comfortable to hold.

Hardware is generally very solid, EXCEPT for the strangely cheap feel of the knobs for pickup selection/EQ which have rubber "rings" on them... It's very practical, but just doesn't feel up to the standard of the rest of this very well-made bass.

Haven't had to test this yet!

Overall Rating : 10
I was looking for a high-quality but affordable bass, if you know what I mean. I've been playing bass for at least 10 years or so, but recently got more serious about it and I wanted something decent to replace my rather humble Cort Artisan C4. The Rockbass Fortress was about the closest competitor for me, and also sounded great for the price - but the Cort Artisan A5 was just more my "style", both aesthetically and in terms of tone (the aggressive tone of the Fortress seemed to be impossible to really "tone down" when not wanted!).

I love this bass. Love the looks, love the sound and I have a feeling it will be a trusted companion for years of playing. The price was sweet, too - massive value for money.

Bought this in 2006. Paid a bunch but I doubt I could have found a 5 string with this many features and sound. Check out the Cort Website for details, Maple body, very versatile controls Bartolini pickups, neck through construction. Hipshot tuners, the list goes on. Hey, whats a bass, the wood, the electronics, the construction? More....

Sound : 9
I play a variety of musical styles. Blues and Jazz stands out and this bass has what it takes to produce these genres. I don't slap much, but what I do slap this bass is dead-on. For the most part I play in the pocket. This bass is impressive for it's price. LOW Bass rumble.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Surprisingly, this bass was very well setup. No flaws, great action. All is tight and no need to adjust a thing.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Tough bass. I bought it to gig - period. Hipshot tuners, solid bridge. I'd like to say that it needed something, being a Cort, but I can't. I take 3 basses to a gig so if it blew a cork I'd survive. However it looks like it'll take it. Haven't had it out yet.

Just got this thing and played it to death this week only. Not sure how to answer this.

I started playing bass in 1966. Have several basses and this was purchased as a road bass. I have phenominal acoustic guitars to die for, though my basses are my joy. If this were to be stolen I'd replace it with the same bass. I've shopped for a 'Gig-worthy' bass and this was it. I have basses costing me thousands, with the same gear setup that can't hold a candle to this bass. I'd like to record this bass but with these Bartolini's it should sound great.

Neck-thru bass made with differents types of wood(Neck-5 piece African wenge/maple, body-figured maple, nut-brass, fretboard-rosewood),it has 5 strings & 24 fret with abalone dots. Created in conjunction with Bill Bartolini, this bass uses 2 active pickups(Neck-Bartolini MK-1 & Bridge-Bartolini MK-1)and the 5 knobs give a wide variety of sounds. The bridge(EB12(5)is perfect with the shape and the color of this bass and assure an optimal holding of the strings.

Sound : 9
I like playing Hard Rock-Metal music and the sound of this bass is perfect. However I'm shure that you can play all the musical genres because you can adjust your sound with the effects you like mostly.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
I have been playing it for few months.I bought it new & I haven't found any flaws yet.The pickups work well, also the knobs. The neck doesn't have any imperfections & also the body is perfect.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I think it has a very long durability, it seems to last well. You don't have to adjust often the neck/truss rod, it's very resistant. However I guess that it would be better to check it before using it on a gig!

I've been playing bass for about 2 years and I started with an old Washburn, that I still have.I like this Cort since I saw it, and if it were stolen or lost, I'd probably buy another one (I hope it won't happen!) I like mostly the suond and the shape, also because it's my 1st neck-thru.

2003 Korean made 24 fret 5 string bass. Neck through design with 7 piece neck, laminated top with 3 piece body. Nice looking guitar for the price. Uses 2 Bartolini designed MK-1 soapbar pickups (active) with a push/pull active/passive switch on the volume control, has 5 knobs: vol, blend, bass, middle, and treble eq. Has a plastic battery compartment on the rear with an easily changable battery and an electronics access plate. Neck is Maple and Wenge, body is figured maple. Finish is described as honey burst and looks slightly sunburst without the black. Body is similar to jazz bass but exaggerated. Uses a Fortress bridge (2-piece) with Gotoh looking tuners. All the hardware finished in a platinum looking finish with a brass nut. Neck feels good for a five string (not too wide). This bass is my first 5 string and second import bass, have a musicmaster fender and an Ibanez roadstar II. Was very surprized at the quality.

Sound : 9
This bass sounds incredible, the pickups are hot and with the blend and the eq you can dial in lots of different sounds from dark and moody to bright and poppy. I play lots of different styles of music and after some experimentation I can make it fit in in any style.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Bying this used I can't tell you how it was setup from the factory. When I got it the action was a little high and the intonation a little off, both easily corrected though (even the B string doesn't buzz). I haven't had to touch the pickups yet and don't expect it will be neccessary. The bass was put together much better than I expected, the only things I could even comment on are a little looseness in the tuning pegs when unloaded and in the bridge standoffs (without strings). Controls are tight and not cheap and the neck was straight as an arrow.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Although I haven't gigged this yet, it seems very well built and don't expect any problems with it (but never, ever play without a backup). I plan on changing the strap to a DiMarzio setup (don't like strap buttons). For a Korean bass that only cost me 300 bucks, I am awestruck.

Customer Support : 8
N/A, used axe, but the company website is well laid out.

Overall Rating : 9
I have been playing bass for 32 years (my fingers are too big for guitar), I still have my original Fender Musicmaster bass, my Ibanez Roadstar II (although the neck on her is a bit woozy, thinking of slapping on a Fretless neck soon). I am having a blast with this bass, that B string just opens up a new world of fun. I looked at a lot of different basses before buying a Cort. Since I'm no millionaire and didn't have a lot of cash to spend on a new bass, it was a compromise, but I haven't stopped smiling yet. If lost, I would definately try and replace her, and would buy another Cort product in a heartbeat.
