This is a 2003 model. Made in Indonesia. 22 frets. 4 String. Solid agathis(3 piece.) Volume, tone controls. 1 Stingray style humbucker passive pickup. Nice dull transparent finish. Kind of a compact Fender Jazz Bass Style body. Bridge is simple Fender ripoff. Gotoh copy sealed tuners. Tapered fingerboard. Not many features for a bass, but it takes no time to get a good sound. I think it could have used a string mute like on the old fenders. The Headstock looks just like the shape of the old gretsch 4 in line shortscale bass headstock like Peter Tork (didn't) play on the Monkees.
Sound

I play old style bass guitar: Duck Dunn, Carol Kaye, James Jamerson, Doyle Holly(Buck Owens)
I Play through mostly a Peavey 115TNT, and it sounds good, and for one gig my buddy played through a new Ampeg B15 100 watt tube amp, and it sounded like Ernest Tubb's later day electric bass player.
The sound of this bass is pretty good, with an old or new ampeg B-15 it is great, I wasn't crazy about it through a 1960's 2X12 Bassman, but all in all any bassy sounding amp will help it do it's job.
Flatwounds helped the sound a great deal! So many new Fenders I tried lacked the groove this bass has.
For 200 bucks great sound, not as versitile as a Gibson EB3 I used to play.

The intonation on the E and A string is a little off at the 12th fret, I have never tried to fix this, it seems an easy fix, but came this way. This is one reminder that this is a $200 bass shaped object. The action seems fine, no buzzing, and compared to a standup it is a joke. Frets nicely finished. Hardware comes loose with regular play, but not much of a problem. The neck strapbutton is on the back of the instrument, rather than the horn, which is annoying an d uncomfortable after a couple of hours, I already broke a strap this way. All in all compared to others in price range not bad

I use this bass live all the time. Finish is fine, strap buttons annoying, the neck does bow back every 6 months. Backup? No way, well except for the standup.

I have never needed it. I bought it from my local music store, that carries mostly beginers instruments, and this was the best sounding bass. They adjsut it when I need it.

I have been playing bass on and off for 16 years, and it has really become my instument the last 5 or so. I have an Engelhardt M1 Standup, a dearmond starfire special guitar, and a Farfisa Fast-3 Organ.
If lost or stolen I might try out an old American Peavey Bass (T-40, or t-20, but this thing does it's job. Of course if I could find an old Fender Precision, or Gibson EB3, or Rickenbacker cheap I would get one of those, but compared to modern Fenders this thing is fine
