Features : 9
Made in Korea, not sure of year, prob 04/05
Jazz bass style, passive, no scratchplate.
22 frets, 4 strings, 2 mighty mite alnico jazz p/ups, 2vol/1tone, basswood body, figured poplar top, maple neck & board, white block inlays, hipshot tuners.
Finish looks like nitro, but might be very thin poly.
Doesnt have a ton of features, but then its a passive jazz, what do you expect!

Sound : 10
Great jazz bass tones, brighter than most due to maple board, plenty of solid low end, nice slap sound with both p/ups on full.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Factory/ shop set-up was fine, other than a bit more relief than I like. Quick turn on the truss rod and voila, great player- low action, no buzzes, good intonation.
Figured burl top in honey sunburst is gorgeous, perfecly bookmatched, with matching headstock. great neck, frework, inlays etc.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Not much to go wrong with a passive jazz
all seems solid

Customer Support : No Opinion
Got a limited lifetime warranty
No info on Cort website (its an old model)

Overall Rating : 10
Played guitar for 15 years. just took up bass.
Got a peavey cirrus as well, going into ashdown combo.
Bought this because Im a big Rush fan. Didnt want to spend #650 on a Fender Geddy Lee, (dont like buying Fenders/Gibsons anyway) This gets me close to a 70s jazz, just like Geddy plays, but looks different/nicer in my opinion.

Played through my Behringer practice combo, this bass sounds pretty decent. Whack it through my Fender 250 (2X10) combo and it's true colours shine through. Very solid bass tones ring out. With a volume for each pickup, blending the two becomes a joy and brings forth many pleasing and usuable bass sounds. You want a middly Jaco tone? You got it. Want a deep rock thump, or funky slap? Again, no problem. It even manages many a nice tone with a pick (plectrum).
I haven't managed to coax out a "Rickysound" yet but this baby fits in well with Yes, Zeppelin, Chillis, Flower kings, Alien Ant Farm or whatever.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
This bass came with nice, low, solid action. No buzzes or rattles. The finish was pretty much exemplary. The only minor fault, was the intonation on the D-string. The others were fine, the D needed a little help. 5 minutes later, all was well.

Reliability/Durability : 9
With good woods and solid construction, this is a bass to keep with you. Not much to go wrong here. It's well put together and finished.

No experience of Cort.

Overall Rating : 10
The first thing about this bass is that it is gorgeous. The lovely burled poplar body and the shapely, maple fretboard are stunning to behold.
I also own a Yamaha BB414, which is of a similar type to the GB99B. In comparison: They both have striking, stylish looks. The Yamaha being more modern, with it's metallic orange finish and glamorous pickups.
They both play very nicely, the Cort has slightly higher string tension, even with a low action. This gives it a more solid, precise feel. The Yamaha string set up is more conducive to vibrato and bending, yet is more likely to buzz or rattle, under pressure.
The Yamaha was 130 pounds cheaper and has far more powerful pickups. Yet the Cort has a more pleasing overall tone and is even more gorgeous than the lovely Yamaha. So reluctantly, the Cort must win. It's a claasy bass that is extremely good value. More proof that modern low/mid priced gear is just phenomenal these days.
