*Not* the SJ-B. Different.
Acoustic-electric bass. 4-string, solid spruce top, mahogany back & sides, Fishman Classic 4 pickup system, rosewood fretboard, chrome tuning keys of some sort. The Cort symbol is in abalone but the rosette is plain. Oversized full jumbo body, not cutaway. Dual strap-buttons.

For an acoustic-electric, very good. Any acoustic electric bass guitar is going to sound incomplete unplugged. The highs are good and bassy, but anything below maybe the D sounds shallow and tinny. This is inevitable. Unplugged, you adjust the bass slider to your liking and - given that bass is a dead easy frequency to get right - all problems are solved.
In general, this bass is warm, woody, and loud - need for amplification in the lower register aside.
I wanted a Cort bass because they're the only company I know of (other than the expensive Taylors) that make basses with full (oversized) umbo bodies *without* cutaways. I see this as being important to maintain as much quality acoustic bass as possible, before having to supplement with amplifier. Cort do make a cutaway model with a smaller body, but what for I don't know (I think that's just the SJ-B).
I compared this also to the Cort NTL-B (in the same store), and I found this one to be much more woody and bassy. The other sounded bright and brittle. This could be because of the slightly slimmer NTL body, or because of the rosewood on the latter - I don't know. Anyways, this one sounded much nicer, which is too bad because it's the only one of its model I've ever seen - they aren't made anymore and seem rather rare.
The Fishman is a good pickup. Having actually played it much, but I'm not worried.
I'm rating this *relative* to other acoustic bass guitars. Don't expect a big thumpy unplugged sound - that would be physically impossible.
Action, Fit, & Finish

I see that the action on this has been lowered a bit at the nut by the previous owner. Right now, I'm very satisfied - it's low and comfortable - but I can't speak for it as it was originally. Personally, I would have sanded down the underside of the bridge, but everything seems fine. I'll do that if I ever convert it to fretless.
The finish is very plain - no gloss at all, soft, and apparently easily scratched. Adornments are plain. The guitar is tastefull - no complaints, but it's not a stunner, either. NB, the rosettes on the pictures I've been able to dredge up on the internet are different from mine, which is just a plain coronation of circles.

Seems very sturdy. Cort are a fantastic company. Fishman is reliable. I'm sure there's no problems here.

The best acoustic bass I know of short of perhaps the Taylor, but then I've never played the Taylor side by side. While the Taylor obviously looks miles and miles better than this one, I don't know if it would actually sound any better. Body dimensions, which are the most important factor in acoustic sound, are about equal for this model and the Taylor AB. By the time you factor in the pickup and an amp (and the Fishman is a good pickup), I don't know if there'd really be much difference.
Overall, I'm very satisfied, and feel extremely lucky to have stumbled across this one.
