i'd say its pretty good as a starter/practice bass... it has 20 frets, which isnt a whole lot, but its decent enough for starters. The fret buzz is horrible, expecially if you have the treble turned way up or the bass up. the neck is a good fit, but the frets could be more sturdy.
Sound
:7
Sound is ok... the pick-ups are terrible, definately change them... tuning the bass down even a half step makes it sound like moving furniture, and its not pleasent. the overall sound when tuned standard isnt bad, but its good enough for my style, alternative/punk/ska. the bass doesnt have a very good tone to my liking, its a bit warm on some higher notes where it could be brighter.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:6
The pick-ups are awful, and the fretbuzz is so incredibly noisy, but its tolerable as a practice bass. its literally indestructable. the controls are pretty good, and the finish lasted. the thing the cord from bass to amp actually came unscrewed, and had to be re-done.
Reliability/Durability
:8
You could throw the thing against a wall and im pretty sure there would be very little damage to the body. the strap buttons suck, i actually was hit with the tuning knobs once because the strap that came with it fell of the front end and whiplashed into my head. i havent messed with the truss rod. the finish is decent, and i like the sunburst color.

i havent been playing bass for too long. if it were stolen, i would not buy the same bass again. before buying the bass be sure to get a new amp to bass cord, because the one that came with it broke the 3rd day i had it. the body of the bass is a little bit wide, and my picking wrist has a callous on the joint from the rubbing of it. its a fairly good bass to have for about the 1st year of playing, but if you get serious and have some money, definatly pick up something better, and get a different amp.

Overall good starter/practice bass... something good to knock around or to keep for good. Beautiful sunburst finish... fairly good set up. comfortable neck.
Sound
:No Opinion
Sound is fairly good... the pickups need a bit of work... the extreme lows (and especially if you downtune to C-D-C-F as I do) have very little volume, however when it comes to tonal quality, the thing is a beauty.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
Action~ nice, it is set fairly low (which i enjoy) not too much buzzing (unless you fret very lightly)
Fit~ Very comfortable. could be a bit more heavy to fit my taste.
Finish~ Very beautiful, however they should have used a Pearloid or Clear (or no) pickguard to enhance the sunburst finish.
Reliability/Durability
:6
The neck could be a bit more strong... it sharps a little too much when you bend back on it. The finish is pretty durable... nothing surprizing there. Should have been shipped with better strap buttons (or locks... but hey its only a $300 bass)

20 frets,dot inlays. made in usa.Two controls,volume and tone.Black with white pickboard.came with bass,crappy cord,10 watt amp,tuner,and wierd starter video.
Sound

it fits my style of playing pretty good(slap, metal.)I use an ibanez 20 watt amp for practice and sounds o.k.,an overdrive foot pedal, and quantum cords.I buzz on the top frets but I lowered my saddles so it would rattle more,I like that. It's a good backup or practice bass.
I don't like the fact that it only has 20 frets.
Action, Fit, & Finish

It's built for war.I have droped it,Stuck it in a cieling fan,Hit it on walls/doors,and dropped things on it(all by acciden.)The pickups suck.Other than that it's alright.
Reliability/Durability

Like I said before this bass will take anything you can throw at it.the pickups need changing.the finish has chipped of in some places.I suggest putting washers under the strap buttons to keep the strap on.

It was made in USA. 20 Frets. I would say the neck is thin, but I have very large hands.

This bass did suit my style(rock, jazz, funk). I'm putting it thru a Hartke Kickback 15(120 watts)with a DOD wah pedal. It was noisy when the tone is fully open, so I changed the pick-up's and dropped some Seymour Duncans in it. Now it sounds really good actually!! The bass is able to get a lot of sounds with the right amp.
Action, Fit, & Finish

I adjusted the set-up to fit my approval. The strings did buzz, but I was told not to really worry about that to much by a pro. I was really surprised by how the wood was.

The bass is a tank!! Yes, I have dropped it and picked it back up and it played well enough. I tweak truss rods in every bass, so I did tweak it.I geuss I would use it at a gig w/o a backup(I have anyway)

Its your standard p-bass that comes in a kit, along with the crate Bx10 amp, a crappy cord, a pretty ok tuner,a great strap, and a strange video(looks like old 80s tapes or a bad porno....lol)
Sound

For me it has been good, IM getting ready to invest in a better bass but it kiks ass as a backup. its tuff as hell and mine is not so pretty anymore..soo I have been playing anyting and i have not had anyproblems with and buzz or anything. i have had it for maybe 8 months and i just replaced the strings too.
Action, Fit, & Finish

Well at first it had horrible fret buzz and the strings would hit the frets soo bad. but after i broke it in and mesed with it i played good The cheezy sunburst finnish was kinda gay though. i got bored at practice one day and picked up a bb gun my frined has in his garage and put some holes in my bass looks much cooler now.

Came in the crate "basspack" or something like that. It came with a video with a funny guy in it, a crate electra b10 (sounds like poo), a cable (broke within a week,) strings (held up well for a couple months), a "how to" book (worthless), a quiktune tuner which worked till i got my seiko which i swear by... It sounded decent through the B10 when it was turned down to 1 or 2...other than that, it distorted HORRIBLY... white pickguard, rosewood neck, 2 knobs - 1 volume, 1 tone... p-bass style... yeah. Standard Features, nonetheless- oh yeah, it came with a nice crate strap which i reinforced with half a roll of duct tape
Sound
:4
Of course I thought it was the greatest thing when i was 12... i showed it off to all my friends and started playing some metallica. then I happened to play a "real" bass and got quite sick of my crappy 'ol crate. it fits my style alright, which is punk/ska, so it doesn't have to sound PERFECT, but its just 1 notch above horrible. I know play through a fender BXR200 head with a Sun 4X10 cabinet... i played through the rig with a EB, and it sounds GREAT... but... i pluged the crate in, and it was a mud-factory. sounded like horse shit.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:3
when i first got it, it was great. 4 months later, the neck was bowed so bad that the action is about 3/4 of an INCH at the 12th fret. makes my fingers hurt sometimes.. but when i play a low action bass, i can blaze on the thing cuz im used to pressing down so hard... the string buzz was so bad that i had to put kleenex in the nut as to allow the string to sit properly. the fretboard is coming off the neck, and is so badly bowed off that i tried putting contact cement on it and clamping it for 2 days, and now i have nice little bars of glue that are stretched between the fretboard and neck. it'd decent if i took everything off but the body and then fixed it up custom.
Reliability/Durability
:6
it does withstand live playing, i've thrown it across stage, and through a drumset without too many bang-ups (aside from the horrible condition of the neck. i'm sure that didn't help- but it was there before my first show) the strap holds up well to my constant jumping around, and i need to adjust the truss rod frequently. movement is pretty good, after the neck is broken in a bit.
Customer Support
:1
well, i asked the guys at the local shop wether or not i could get a new one due to the shitty conditions... they said that they could send it in... it would have cost me like 30 bucks both ways, and my bass would have been gone for like 3 months... so that sucks...
Overall Rating
:3
Maybe you'll have better luck, and i just got a shitty one- but i seriously doubt it. NEVER BUY THIS BASS,EVER. if i had spent another 300 bucks and got a halfway decent bass in the first place, i would have had alot less strife... but i wouldn't know how to fix them like i do, so it's not so bad. but i still want to say NEVER BUY IT! if it got stolen, i probably wouldn't care... cuz my new bass is coming in in about a week, and i'm stoked! it'll still be my backup, but i'm pretty sure my EB will never die!!!!!

Part of a Crate Tour Pack to start learning bass. Came with amp, cord, tuner, and gig bag. It is a 4 string 34" scale P-bass copy with a sunburst finish. The neck is Jazz bass sized (1.5" I think), not 1 5/8 like the real thing. Passive electronics, 1 volume, 1 tone, metal knobs. I think the whole deal was $250
Sound
:6
I play rock and funk, a little jazz here and there. I like to slap. If you buy a Tour Pack, the tuner is worthless, the cable will break, and you will think your bass sounds crappy and you will not like it (like me), until you invest in a quality amp (SWR WM 12 in my case). The bass does not by any means have the perfect sound. However, I think it sounds just as good as any bass under $800, (and this one is worth probably $150) Bottom line: Hook it up to a decent amp, and while it's not great, it gets the job done well. Hey, Dylan doesn't have much of a voice, but he knows how to use what he has.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:6
Action was low from the factory, pickup was high. Action was too low. G string suffered from extreme fret buzz, soon became unplayable at frets 1-4. Raised action on bass to relieve fret buzz, no more buzz. Action is still a bit high, but it works for me. When I started learning slap, I had to lower the pickup eventually, because I was always hitting it The pickup is scratched from being slapped with wound strings too much. Lowered pickup, no problem. Bass is adequate after adjustment. Fretwire is not tearing up my fingers. I doubt it is level. From time to time there has been a slight rattle in bridge when open A is plucked.
Reliability/Durability

I have never played live, but I think it will last a while. I am hard on it. I pluck hard, and slap hard. Broke the G string doing a Flea solo. Finish is scratched and chipping in small spots in a few places, wood has dents in it. The strap it came with sucks too, so it has been dropped before. The bass has held up well. The neck has a couple little slits in it from who knows what. However the bass still plays just fine. It feels very solid.

I have been playing for almost 11 months. I run it through an SWR WM 12 amp, and I have a Jim Dunlop Crybaby bass wah, that i don't use a whole lot. The amp that was included with the bass sounds HORRIBLE!!!!
If it were stolen, id probably get the 800 dollar Warwick Corvette at the local music store. But I would be mad. Yes I do like this bass, yes i do intend to keep it. As previously mentioned I was searching for a new bass for a while. Well since i've played on the new amp, not anymore. I dont think the basses get any better until you hit around the $1000 mark, when you are playing Fender American Deluxes, Warwicks, Modulus, etc. The Mexican fenders are no better in my opinion, and in fact don't feel as solid when you pick it up, actually (very subjective point). I do think it is better than squiers. If the bass broke and was not repairable, i wouldnt buy another one, but if it was repairable i'd repair it. If you are looking to start playing bass I highly reccommend this. Don't let the "Crate" logo scare you away. Or if you just need a solid, cheap replacement, Id reccommend it. If all your gear is stolen and you have 1000 to play with, I recommend going 250 on this kit, 20 on good cable, and 730 on a quality amp. I dont intend to replace mine until i have a good solid stage rig. I have total confidence in the bass lasting until then, and even past. Keep in mind that the person who plays the instrument is more important than the instrument itself. Kurt Cobain used "crappy" pawnshop guitars, and he made it sound great.

I purchased this bass in january, 2001. It has 4 strings, 20 frets, and 1 volume control with 1 tone. The finish is black, but it was also available in sunburst, the body looks a lot like a fender standard jazz bass, minus the extra volume and tone controls, everything else looks standard, but it did come with a gig bag, a pretty nice amp, cheap strap, a poorly made cable, some tools for the truss bar, and a tuner.
Sound
:8
This bass works great for what I do, which is basically just playing with a punk/grunge style for a local band I started. It's realy loud, and tends to have a range of sounds, generally it's fairly warm sounding. It would be great to use for practicing and maybe even some studio work. I like initial sound, but there is some room for improvement.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:5
The only problem I had with this bass was the truss bar, it wasn't aligned properly, and had to have it fixed from the manafacture, which was a pain since I ordered it online, so I had to send it back and forth, with a long waiting period.
Reliability/Durability
:6
This bass can fully withstand playing live, because it's been done before, it seems to be very durable, the electronics have never failed on me, and all the buttons and tones seem pretty solid. The finish is a little thin because it wears off a bit too easily through rugged long playing.
Customer Support
:7
I've only adjusted/fixed one thing on it, and it as the truss bar, since it wasn't aligned, but the 3 year warranty was plenty enough to get it fixed without too much trouble. The company was very easy to deal with.

I've been playing bass guitar about a year now, and electric guitar for well over 4 years. With this bass I usually use the amp that came with it, or for live playing, I hook to my stage amp which consist of a 50watt bass amp by crate, which isn't much in comparison to some of those big shots out there.. I love that this bass is very easy to play and fast to get used to. I only wish it was a bit cheaper since the extra add ons that came with the bass weren't very good quality. Compared to some fender basses, the sound difference is minute, but the price difference is tremendous. If I needed to replace my bass, I probably wouldn't get it again, but it's great for time being.
