I got it from some kid on ebay, it had never been played (still had the protective film on the pick ups) but had been hanging around who-knows-where and for how long out of a case. Needed a set up, especially truss rod adjustment and new strings. Four control knobs don't result in as much sound quality variation as you might think, but the pick ups are good, this was my first bass with active pick ups. The feminine atomic pink color is very pretty, I added pink coated DR strings mainly for vanity but they work well with this bass. The bridge is slightly smaller and the bass is slightly lighter than comparable basses (kind of the opposite of the BC Rich or Traben idea of making basses heavier with wider bridges), I have to give this gurly axe high marks on features for this. You just can't find many basses designed for smaller hands. Yeah there are other pink basses available now, but this sparkley finish is still unique and very cute. On the negative side, the way the battery fits in for the active pick ups, it is so tight, I don't think you need small hands, you need a tiny little screwdriver for leverage, it's not designed for easy access. I couldn't figure out which one of the Daisy Rock cases would fit this, and I wanted more protection anyway, it fits just fine in a coffin case for a standard bass. CONSTRUCTION: Bolt-On

Sound : 7
It's not that unusual in the sound department, this is fine for rock 'n roll, from 1980s to today's indie, but if you want anything unusual you'll need an effects pedal or pre-amp or something. Not much variation in sound from the four knobs, the two pickups are the same type and they're not that far apart so there's not much variation in sound quality by varying the relative balance for the p/u's. It's got pretty consistent sound quality up and down the fretboard, once I had it professionally set up, no ringing, buzzing, distortion, at any location or at any volume. I don't use this bass for jazz or blues (need more space at the bridge, so I use a fretless Wishbass), and I prefer a viola style semihollow body for Hawai'ian or 60's rock. I really mainly got this bass to look cute, and it serves that purpose well.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
I don't know how this was coming out of the factory, I got it from a somewhat dubious ebay source, and it needed a set up. But the quality of workmanship is consistent with it's intermediate price, it's well put together, very pretty, with no obvious factory defects.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Sure this bass will withstand live playing and regular practice, it's well assembled, and well designed. It seems as durable as other basses in its price class, the fact that it's a little lighter than most solid body basses doesn't mean it feels cheap. Would I gig without a back up? I wouldn't, but I never gig without a back up, I'm not good at changing bass strings fast, so I think it's a good idea to have another axe ready to go, just in case.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've never had a problem with it, never had a reason to contact Daisy Rock.

Overall Rating : 8
I made quick progress from a beginner to an intermediate level player, and this bass was kind of a brief transitional instrument for me. I wanted a pretty, mid-level bass and this fits that bill, it's well worth the $350 retail price and I'd recommend it to anyone with smaller hands, especially girls playing bass ready to move up from a beginner model. However, for a little more, you can get some really attractive basses from Raven West, and that's what I'm playing now, a five string in lizard quilt that is more versatile for rock.
