This is the first reissue (c.1999), made in Korea, with the plastic tuners and the one-piece bridge. One volume and one tone knob for each of the two lipstick pickups - very simple, but very versatile too. Body is masonite on a plywood frame. Clear pick guard. Finish is a sparkly maroon with plastic tape around the edge. It's a short-scale bass. The deep double cutaway body means two full octaves of playable frets. This bass is really, really light.

Sound : 10
Fits into my musical style (surfy gothy new-wave) absolutely perfectly. A huge tonal spectrum from deep lows to crisp, twangy highs. Sounds great through a flanger, great through delay (!). It's great on stage, and great in the studio. It's really great, really.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The tape around the edges started bubbling up from day one, which I guess is why the new Danelectros don't have it. All kinds of dust and crap seems to get lodged in underneath the pick guard.

All the paint and the hardware & electronics have held up nicely though.

Reliability/Durability : 7
Strap pegs keep coming out -- I'm going to have to buy some locking ones. The bass looks like it's really delicate, but it's been surprizingly rugged, surviving a lot of pretty violent bumping. After six years, the tuners are still pretty stiff (but not too stiff -- stiff enough that strings don't magically drop out of tune while playing, but not too stiff to actually tune up).

Playing through a Yorkville Bassmaster 200 115, which has a tweeter for all the top end. I usually play with a pick, and often through flangers and delays.

I sort of wish it was a bit heavier, because it doesn't really have its own centre of gravity, if that makes any sense.

Its a ok bass for features, what i like about it is the two in one adjustment knobs. I dont know why people diss them they work fine, the tuners are weird and look like a guitars, but they stay tuned well. The body is light weight and is and small its semi hollow so it might break if droped, but i never droped mine yet so i dont know.
they neck has a small scale prolly not much bigger than a guitars but has 24 frets

Sound : 10
the sound is fantastic, like all danelectros it has a clean unique sound. Alot better than my other basses squier P-bass, and a epipiphone SG reissue bass. Its good for all types of music rock jazz punk what ever.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Everything was good when i got it and still is. the matreal isnt the best its made outta plastic and plywood but it looks sweet so thats what counts

Reliability/Durability : 10

Im not TOO smart about features but...

Shortscale bass, semi hollow. Two lipstick pickups. They aren't very raunchy.

The tuning keys are somewhat flimsy but not as bad as everyone makes them out to be.

The strap buttons arent bad either really.

Nothing special, run of the mill. A lot of good string companies don't make shortscales.

Sound : 4
I went from a 100 dollar pawn shop Squier P Bass (Yuck!) to this, and I prefer the sound of the P bass. I played raunchy punk rock, and now grunge with some old school punk to it. This will NOT hit any crunchy notes, no twang. All a low thud bass. Think "Come Together" or mostly any Paul McCartney. Do not expect this to have a crisp sound. I even bought an overdrive pedal to beef it up, and still a 'watery' tone. I felt I had a duty to warn others of this tone. It'd be good for other styles, but definitely no rock n' roll.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The construction and design makes the neck flow perfectly, you can get down the frets easily. It even has 24! I was always afraid to rock out with it because it looked so nice , but I imagine it can take some pain. I dropped it once. It's semihollow, so watch out.

Playability - two thumbs way up

Reliability/Durability : 5
Not sure but I wouldnt use it without a backup. no way

This is a good old school bass. Like if you were in a totally sedate thumping bass band. Not for any style of rock at all, no matter what, whatsoever. If you are thinking about it, please dont.

Not alot to add from last reveiw really.
Unique looks. This bass is gonna get you at least a little attention.
A little basic but useable.Nasty tuners.
Aqua and Cream body, lots of frets and 4 strings .
Managed to blag a lead with mine.ooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh lol

Sound : 10
This is where I was most pleased with my purchase and what persuaded me to buy it. Danelectro's are well know for their unique sound. I was'nt convinced until I picked one up. A nice warm rich tone with plenty of punch to it.
Not too great for tapping and slapping, but as pick pick and finger player it works great for me.
Its a good rock/metal bass even if the looks dont match the image.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Cant fault it. Came to me spot on. No grumbles at all

Reliability/Durability : 8
Damn plastic stap buttons. They will be coming off very soon.
I'm a little worried about its long long term durability.
A plywood body dosent make me too comfortable, I'm scared of going through it by some silly misadventure, thats not to say its not solid more like I'm clumsey lol.
Too new to tell you anything else.
Would I gig without a back up? I would think so

Light as a feather......( I have a ropey back so that was a big consideration) with a solid heavy sound.
A pickup selector would have been nice and those damn tuners and strap hooks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This bass is all about the sound it gives, even if you have no intention of buying one give one a play and see if it can help you change youre mind, I think you might be pleasently surprised
