The chorus effect is useless, imho... I toyed with it after I first bought it...but I don't see much benefit in having it.

Otherwise, I am very impressed. It stays in tune as well as my Les Paul and Martin D35...if not longer.

Sound : 9
I'm using it with a Pod mini -- bass setting. It sounds perfectly fine...and it has great sustain.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
I can't complain. I have only tweaked it a bit as it was buzzing a bit as it was setup from the factory.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Very solid and dependable. I bought it new around 2001 and it is still in like new condition...not a scratch then or now. The stainless steel components are sturdy and extremely durable.

Customer Support : 7
Not long after I bought this, I called to inquire about replacing the Chorus effect switch. I was told by Danelectro that they quit making guitars. The reason given was that they had gone overboard with too many models. I've just noticed that they are now making guitars once again...only a few models.

It hasn't needed service...other than the switch for the effect was noisy and cheap. I don't use it anyway.

Overall Rating : 9
I have always thought that this is just a convenience guitar as I needed a bass for my studio. But, I have grown to realize that it is a fine instrument with tone and playability of most any of the far more expensive bass guitars. I am very happy with this guitar.

Precision Bass clone with built-in chorus effect; blue sparkle burst and red sparkle burst (I own 2 of these basses!); super-lightweight plywood (?) body; Mosrite-style warped offset cutaways/lower bout; vintage Fender p-bass dimension neck, rosewood "slab" board, 2X2 tuners; p-bass style PU, cheap tuners

Sound : 9
Stock pickup sounded clean and middy, but I soon decided to make this a really souped-up p-bass type; installed DiMarzio "Model P" PU, Sperzel locking tuners, and Hipshot type "B" brass/chrome bridge. Oh yeah -- totally took the chorus effect out of the loop as it's just goofy and added noise (you need to disconnect it from the volume pot and disconnect the output wires from the "effect" output jack.)

This bass now sounds and plays GREAT -- light as a feather, and with mucho oomph and ooh-la-la!

Rating is with my mods and upgrades.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Love it -- one of the basses sets up much better than the other, so I'm rating for the better of the two. Naturally I perfromed a lot of upgrades, but these are easy to afford as the basses each cost less than $200 BRAND NEW. Total with mods/labor = about $450, still a steal for a great instrument.

Reliability/Durability : 6
Not as solid as a real P-bass, but mightier than any Rick! Needed some truss tweakage, intonation, naturally -- but wadda you want for $195?

Customer Support : No Opinion
Wha?

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I really love the fact that for not so much $$, I was able to build a super p-bass that is different from the instrument that you see hanging off the shoulders of 95 percent of the bass-playing public.

I have a really lousy back after my years "hauling the boom-boom log," so the light-weight is a super plus.

The cheap plywood body really resonates well; just a wee bit thinner than my not-for-export CIJ '62 reissue P-Bass (at HALF the weight!) I love it, and do recommend it if you can find one!

Way to go, Dano!

Standard 4-sting bass with staggered pickup and built-in chorus, requiring 9 V batterybuilt in Korea, I think, but workmanship appears to very good (made in Korea doesn't have a bad stigma anymore). Maple/rosewood neck/fretboard, tone & volume knobs, 2 output jacks; chorus effect & by-pass. You can use this for a stereo effect. Beautiful finish!

Sound : 10
Beautiful tone, stays in tune and has good tone adjustability. Chorus sounds great, although not adjustable, it is set about right.
Just a solid bass sound, very much like a Fender precision bass, only a bit better, I'd say (at 1/3 the price to boot!) Good sustain. Pickups are quiet and give a good punchy sound when you thwang those strings hard. I play folky-rock, progressive rock-jazz fusion, thrash metal, etc. and it works great over a wide variety of styles. EXCELLENT, TOP-NOTCH BASS !!!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Set up great in every respect. I do wish the truss rod wwere accessable without taking off the neck, though no adjustment has been necessary. harware has good chrome finish. Sparkleburst midnight blue looks BEAUTIFUL !!! My only nit-picking complaint is the strap button for the chorus effect, a bit cheapo with an occasional POP when activated.

Reliability/Durability : 9
SOLID BUILT! Should last for many years, with the possible exception of the chorus strap button (I wish it were a toggle switch). Probably would gig without a backup, if need be, but ANY bass can fail at the wrong time.

Customer Support : 5
Danelectro (Evets) is a poorly managed outfit, occasionaly OK support, but usually flakey and unsupportive. Fortunately, have not needed help with this nice Rumor bass.

Overall Rating : 10
playing 25+ yrs., off & on, and this bass is about as good as any I've tried at any price. Would definitely buy another one if lost/stolen. Wish it had chorus adjustment and a better strap button. Beats me why you'd spend the extra $ for an Fender, Ibanez, Rick., etc. but, to each his own. Like choosing a car, some people like to feed their ego with an overpriced yuppy-name-brand luxury sedan, but those driving Hondas & Toyotas are getting a car that runs just as well for a lot less.

I have a 2001 Danelectro rumor blue/Black sparkle burst, made in korea
its 34 inch scale 20 frets, i use GHS bass boomers on it.

one volume one tone control, p bass pickups, and they are pretty hot with great tone for everything i do.

its solid alder with rosewood and maple neck

I got a gig bag, starp (black and blue with lightning all over) 20' cord and a fender 1/2 stack, later replaced by a yorkville XM100 last year.

Sound : No Opinion
it is p bass style looking and its a great bass even for beginners and it has served me for almost 3 years (i bought it late 2000 when they were getting ready to go on sale new) and ive played many gigs and many styles from: Jazz, to rock, metal, blues, and even current stuff like blink 182 and avryl lavine.

the sound is great, reliable and its got pretty nice action and speed for a guitar as cheap as it is.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
i never need a backup guitar but i have replced one string (original) and i keep the rest of the original dano strings (from factory) as backups

Customer Support : No Opinion
i bought it at Bruno Brothers music in strongsville ohio, it was a good fari price (lower than most places) and he also sold me the yorkville as well. I sent a friend of mine to him and he bought an XM 200 cheaper there than from the factory.

thier helpful, friendly and very honest

Overall Rating : No Opinion

I have alot of guitars and basses and this is my favorite

yeah, id replace it with a new one

i love the hot active pickups

this one stuck out for its look, sound and the amp i was using made great sounds with it compared to some of the other ones i tried (including the warlock series) B.C. Rich, fender, and ibanez

My Dano Rumor Bass is a 2001 Model. Red sunburst finish with heavy metallic sparkles on it. Chinese Made..4 string 20 fret bass 34 inch scale.
Bascially (pardon the pun) it's a cross between a Ventures Model Mosrite and a Fender Precision. Pickup is a awesome sounding P-Style Pickup
This bass is solid wood..Probably Agathis. Neck is a 3 piece Maple/Rosewood combo. The slab rosewood fretboard is reminecent of mid 59-62 Fender rosewood board neck. Neck is a nice satin finish.
Bridge is a solid copy of a Fender. Tuners are a economy type but do a very good job.
It does have a bulit in chorus, powered by a 9 volt battery..supplied with the bass. Batteries included is a nice touch I might add too.
This bass came with no accessories, but I bought a Dano gigbag (Very Nice) Very well thought out design. It does an excellent job. For me I don't need anything more. This bass fits my needs

Sound : 10
I play in a 60s style band. The look and sound are perfect. I bought this bass online to match my Dano Hearsay which I love to death.
I'll echo a previous review. If you own or play a P-Bass then you know what to ecpect for sound. For me it has a nice warm sound. It can get pretty bright too, but I like a darker 60s style tone...This bas does it for me In Spades.
It's my only instrument bought online. I'm happy I got it. Even though I had to wait several months to finally get it.
I've used it onstage and on a CD our band did. The studio owner said that bass records nicely with no noise at all.
I run this bass through a 1968 Bassman works just fine!!!!
This bass is not great for Slap type playing, but for Rock, Blus , Country it's great

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I bought this bass online. I own several other Dano's so I thought if it was as good as the ones I play..I'll love it. I was right. The only thing was the action was a tad high, easy fix. Everything was tight and in good working order. The frets were absolutely perfect. All were even and no jagged edges. Even the jack inputs were tight. This bass was gig ready off the rack. In fact for the price this bass is a steal.
The built in chorus works well...no troubles at all

Reliability/Durability : 10
This bass has played a lot of gigs not to mention a CD. I also have a Longhorn too, so I switch between the Rumor and Longhorn. I have gigged with it without a backup.
I've had this bass for 15 months and no trouble no breakage. The hardware is solid. The finish is supurb.
I did have to adjust the truss rod once..(3 months after I got it) minor adjust. I wanted it perfect for the relief on the neck. It's still dead on.
Oversized strap buttons are solid and still tight never had to tighten one up.

Customer Support : 10
I didn't get a warranty card or hang tag with it. E-Mailed Dano, handled very quickly. The warranty is a year. Mine is out of warranty, solid bass!!! No Problems

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing bass for 20 years I have 3 Fenders 2 Danos. I highly recommend these. The price is really affordable. They sound and play like basses 4 times the cost. I would put it up against any Std. Mexico Fender P-Bass.
I love the light weight and clean tone of it. The built in chorus was not a factor in buying it, but I do use it once in a while and it's pretty good.
This bass would be excellent for anyone wanting a retro looking, solid sounding bass. I wish I had this bass 20 years ago

As stated before, this is a 34" scale, kind of upside down Jazz bass style body, similar to a Mosrite in shape. One passive P Bass style pickup, with volume and tone controls. Standard Fender style bridge. Constructed from some light weight mystery solid wood. Funky red sparkle paint job. Bolt on maple neck with ajustable truss rod, and rosewood finger board. Please ignore other reviews stating that there is no truss rod. The neck must be removed to access the truss rod. Trust me, it's there! I've tweaked mine a few times after experimenting with different gauge strings! It would have been nice if the truss rod could be gotten at without removing the neck, but hey for the money, I really can't complain. My old P bass is a bitch to get at the truss rod as well. The tuners are some kind of generic elephant ear tuners that, although a little stiff, work quite well. Oh yeah, then there is the built in chorus. Two inputs, one for the chorus, and one bypass.

Sound : 9
If you know what a Fender Precision sounds like, you have a good idea what this Dano sounds like. I've always played a vintage Precision through a Sunn 200-S or Sunn 2000-s all tube amp, throug a 1X15 SWR Son of Bertha cab. Play everything from old school blues (deata to Howlin'Wolf), loud acid rock(Hendrix, Cream, type stuff), and sometimes Jazz oriented type stuff. Any situation that a P bass would work in, this Dano will work in as well. Probably not well suited to slap, but if that's your thing, you most likely arn't looking at this bass anyway. I was real supprised by how great this bass sounds. Honestly, it's better sounding that many more expensive basses, including Mexican and American Precisinons, and even some vintage ones I've played. I'm not kidding, this thing really does sound good. I've found that pure nickle round wound strings really sound nice on it. I read in some other reviews that flatwounds sound great as well, and I bet they do for a real old school sound. The only gripe is that when pushed into distortion, it isn't as smooth sounding as my old P, but it's still sound decent. Played clean the tone is nice and warm, with that nice midrange tone that you would expect with this kind of pickup. You will not find a better sounding P style bass in this price range. The body is light and very resonant. This is a GOOD quality in any bass, and contrubutes to the vintage type sound. You'll notice all those HEAVY multiple wood laminate acteve basses sound sterile. This Dano is nice and lively sounding. The chorus is kind of a gimmik ,but some of you might find a use for it somewhere. I've fooled around with it a bit, and it's not that bad. There is a noticible diffence in the sound between the chorus input and the bypass input. The bypass input is a little more open sounding to me. Judged agianst all other basses I'd rate the sound at a 9. Against all in its price range a solid 10+++

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
It came brand new in the box to me. Right out of the box the action was nice, but the intonation was awful. Easy fix with a philips screw driver. The truss rod was spot on with the strings provided. I like the pickups to be adjusted a little lower than most, and they are easy to adjust with a lot of travel up and down. Read in an earlier review that one guy couldn't drop the pickups low enough. Certainly isn't a problem on my bass. You can adjust the pickups so far down that the covers are below the pickguard. The neck pocket was a bit of a supprise. It is super tight. Can't fit anything between the neck and body. Actually had to wack the neck to get it out of the joint to re adjust the truss rod when I change the gauge of the strings. My hats of to the folks in China that built this thing. The frets are finished nicely with no rough ends on the fingerboard. The neck has a nice feel to it. Wider than a Jazz, but not as big as a P. One thing to note. All Danelectros that I have seen seem to suffer from DRY fingerboards. A little lemon oil on the boards does wonders for them, and is good matinence for the wood. The sparkle finish is kind of cool. No flaws that I can see. The satin finish on the neck is O.K. and feels better the more I play it. It's breaking in nicely. Now that it's all adjusted to my liking, this thing just kills. Real easy to play with nice low action, and no fret buzz. Once agian, outstanding considering the price. Far better than I had expected.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I can see no problem playing this bass out live. Now that I've had it for a while, I'll be bringing it out on some gigs. It's very basic, and stout. Hell, it's a solid body bass, how fragile could it be? It's already survived being nocked over a few times, and didn't even go out of tune. One nice feature is the volume and tone knobs. They are real easy to see just where they are set because of the bright white dot on the black knob. I know most people wouldn't even notice something like this, and even read some reviewers call the knobs cheezy, but on a dark stage, it's nice to look down at the controles and know exactly where they are set. Less time spent fiddling around on stage during a show to get the desired sound. Those of you who are used to the chrome knobs on a Precision know what I mean. I would be fine using this without a backup. Also, I have an old Danelectro guitar from 1965. It has held up fine for 30+ years, and the construction of this bass is far better than the old one. I'm sure this will hold up fine over the course of time.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No idea. Danelectro seem to be discontinuing a lot of guitar and bass lines. Haven't had to deal with them, however all the local dealers have dumped their stock of instruments, so I guess that can't be a good thing.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing bass and guitar for over 20 years. As for basses, my #1 is a '64 P bass w/rosewood fingerboard. I also have an early G&L, and an old Peavy T-20 right now, and the Dano. This Danelectro is the first new bass I've ever owned. Always like vintage stuff. I was looking for a good sounding fairly cheap back up for the P. There are some shows that I just don't want to bring the P to, and the G&L is just to heavy to play all night. I played a bunch of different stuff from American Fenders(new and old), Mex& Asian Fenders& Squires, Ibanez, Gibson, Epiphone, Godin, Dean etc. Some were decent and some just PLANKS. (Don't even ask about one particular '76 P UGGGGG!) All of the Dano Rumors that I picked up all felt and sounded really good. And the PRICE! These things consistantly out played everything else that I played. Many basses have a skinny little neck like a jazz bass. This just isn't for me. Some Mex Fenders were actually pretty good, but the Danelectro's were better. Once I decided that I was going to purchase a Dano, I could not find one at any of the local dealers that had carried them. They had all blown out there stock. I had to do the unthinkable, and mail order one. For anyone out there looking for a great first bass, or for someone who has played for years, this really is sweet. New players will learn to get a sound from their fingers, not from multiple pickups, on board pre amps etc. Will it ever replace my #1, Probably not, but you won't find a better deal out there in this price range. A wonderful bass at a bargin price. Two thumbs up!

It was made in 2001, I've had it for about a year now. It has some frets, I didn't count them nor do I care to, plenty of frets for me. The body is made of some horrid light material that chips and breaks easily. It had some stupid chorus unit built in that I removed, blah, who the hell uses chorus on bass? It had a decent p-bass style pickup that I switched out for a Fender 62 Reissue pickup. It has a volume and tone knob, just the right amount of features. Anything more would be excessive.

Sound : 8
For the most part, I play punk rock. I play old school style stuff, Television, New York Dolls etc. with a Bad Religion style sound. I've used it through an SVT stack and now I use it through my Gallien Krueger half stack. I can't really say how it sounded through the SVT, it had a horrible fuzzy type sound at that time which I later found out was caused by the chorus unit. After removing the chorus unit, battery and extra input the real tone of this bass came out. With flatwounds this bass has a great thump sound which I used for ska and rockabilly style stuff. Thats where the original pickup in this bass excells. It doesn't do too badly with stainless steel, but the way the pickup is voiced causes too much clicking with my playing style. I had to raise the action too high and then I lost my sound all togehter...even when I raised the pickup heigth. I was forced to change the pickup out in favor of a Fender 62 Reissue p-bass pickup. Now I have finally achieved my opinion of sonic perfection. It's great live and recorded, I've done plenty of both. Before the pickup change I would given the bass an 8 in sound, afterwords it is a definate 10.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 5
I can't remember how it came from the factory....it really can't be given a "good setup", it lacks a truss rod. Luckily, I don't care.

Reliability/Durability : 3
I don't think this bass is gonna last too long...it has no truss rod, which means eventually it will be unplayable for even me. I got pissed off at my SVT one time...turns out it had a bad capacitor, but anyways the volume was fading in and out. In a fit of rage I flung the bass off of my shoulder and into the SVT at full force chipping the heck out of the bass and bending one of the tuners. I don't know if the bass would survive another bout like that, it's way too fragile. Also, all of the screws on this bass strip becasue of the cheap "wood". I have to tape the strap buttons and strap in place now. This is not a reliable/durable bass, not by any stretch of the imagination. It's a 1 year old insturment and it has been mistaken for an authentic vintage Danelectro bass by a knowledgible player. Oh well...at least when the neck bows beyond playability I have an excuse to buy a nice maple-fretboarded Fender neck.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I do everything myself.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I've been playing for 3 years I think...I haven't been keeping track. I've owned every decent bass there is. 70's Rickenbacker, 70's Fender P-Bass, Fender Jazz Bass, Musicman Stingray, G&L L-2000, and many more. I never really found my sound in any of them, the 70's P-Bass was close, but not quite. I've finally found my sound in this bass and I wish I would have realized it before I wasted money on the others. This bass is not for everybody, if you're looking for hi-fi slap sounds or anything along those you will be sorely disapointed. But if you are looking for real vintage bass sounds look no further. Oh and hey...did I mention the price? Fuck!

Purchased 3 months ago, arrived last week at Guitar Center. Made in China. 21 frets, 4-string solid body, 1vol 1 tone, two outputs-normal and chorus. P-pickup, passive. Unknown wood, two piece maple neck, satin finish with rosewood fretboard. Blue sunburst, metal flake sparkle finish, modified jazz bass/ Mosrite style body, standard Fender-type bridge, no-name brand Fender-type chrome plated tuners, and an Allen wrecnch included.

Sound : 5
Sound is definitely retro with a P-bass voicing. The pickup is definitely hot and reproduces the E string well. Not noisy, but occasional pops heard. Not too bright even with treble boosted. To get any more than a standard sound you have to do some serious EQ tweaking. I can't give a definite opinion on tone until I replace the factory strings which left my fingertips blackened. The chorus sounds good, although it is not adustable.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
The action was somewhat high for my liking but will be adjusted. I hope the truss rod doesn't need adjustment as the neck must be removed to get to the adjustment screw. The neck pocket is very snug and the bass seems well put together. No problems with the nut, although I've broken them on every bass I have owned.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I think it will hold up as well as any other bass I have oned. I've never had one fail and have broken a string only once. Strap buttons are standard. I would use it without a backup. Since the body is so lightweight, the bass is a bit neck-heavy but doesn't move above horizontal.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Don't know and don't care. The bass doesn't appear to have any defects.

Overall Rating : 10
I've played bass for 34 years and own Fenders, Yamahas, Peaveys and an OLD Gibson EB-2 that sounds great for Animals tunes. I have a rack system and use varoius combinations of speaker cabinets but most of all just enjoy making low frequncy music. About this bass, I don't think you can get a better one for two or three times the price. I wish I had it 30 years ago.

2001 Danelectro Rumor. Sparkly red. Made in China according to the sticker on the back of the headstock. You know the features: very very basic instrument. For all these reviews I figure 5 or 6 means it simply does the job, 10 means it does wonderful things, and 1 means it does nothing.

Sound : 9
I play sort of indie-pop/experimental: somewhere between My Bloody Valentine and Kid Loco, I guess. I need a balanced, straight-ahead sound and this instrument delivers. The tone knob really works, and they've lucked into (or planned) a great placement for the pickup on the body as far as resonance and tone. The pots are silent, and the pickup does not hum. The chorus is actually a good one, though I don't use it except for laughs. It is not a terribly trebly bass...more of a straight P-bass sound. I play through a 1972 Fender Bassman 100 head and Bassman 4-12 cabinet, and sometimes an SWR Super Redhead.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The factory set-up was mediocre. Playable, but that's it. neck was set up right, but the intonation was off on the E, D, and G strings, and the action was high on the D and G. Everything about the instrument says not so much "cheap" as "simple." The finish was smoothly applied, the frets finished, the instrument boxed securely. The neck is on the narrow side, as is the string spacing at the bridge. It's possible to pop and slap on this bass but it's more of a fingers or flatpick instrument. The neck finish is very nice. The instrument is light and well-balanced. The tuners are a little stiff and cheap feeling: I may replace those.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
It's so simple I can't imagine much going wrong with it. I'm epoxying the strap buttons in place. I take good care of my gear and rarely break things, so I feel confident with this. having said that, this is obviously not as well constructed as, say, a Rickenbacker. But unless you throw your instrument on the floor it doesn't have to be that well-built.

I've been playing bass and guitar for about 20 years, doing some recording and a lot of gigging and traveling. When I recently switched back to bass from guitar I decided to just get affordable, practical equipment instead of getting caught up in boutique-gear frenzy. In the past I've had a Rick 4001, a USA Jazz Bass, a USA Guild Pilot, a USA graphite Steinberger, and a G&L SB-2. This Danelectro looks a little odd and is absurdly inexpensive, plus the tuners are rather poor quality, but if you play it with your eyes closed it's a fine instrument that is balanced, lightweight, easy to play, and sounds great. I'm very happy with it.

its new and was made in china.21 frets passive and p style pickups.it came with a tweed case and some picks and a strap.34" scale.black.2 knobs: tone and volume, your basic bass.It also has built in chorus wich is interesting.

I play it through a GK400 amp with a sunn 115rb or sumthin. It sounds great! i play all kindsa stuff and it can fit my needs pretty good.i was gona go to the music store and buy the best sounding one i could find and it turned out to be this.Plus not too long after i bought it they stopped making them!!so if u have one it might be worth sumthing .the only bad thin about it is if u have the tone all the way up the pickups buzz a little.and the frets buzz too but i can fix that.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
well when i got it the guy had set it up so it wasnt like that from the factory .i havent had to change anything action wise, although the cheap wood they made it with doesnt grip good with the strap buttons so i had to get that fixed. The black finish looks pretty funny actualy with the sparkles but i got it cuz it sounded good.I was told that the black ones were rare.

Reliability/Durability : 8
It is very lightweight so i dont trust it as much as i would say a fender.I have dropped it a few times due to my idiacy(i think thats a word)but it didnt seem to afect it at all.ive only had to retune it a few times since i got it.If i was at a gig i would bring a backup, but i would bring a backup no mater what bass i had just incase..Like i said before the strap thing was cheap.

For the price this was an awesome deal.ive only been playing for about 8 months but my dad has been playing for 20 years or so and he helped me buy it.we compared it to a few ibanezes and a dearmond and 2 fender p basses and i liked this the best.plus with the money i saved not getting the other ones i got an electric guitar too!
