It was made in Indonesia in 1998, and it's a standard 4-string with 21 frets. There's one volume and one tone control, which are pretty sturdy and solid so far. The neck is very nice and easy to use. Not too fat, not too slim, it fits the hand nicely, as well as the frets. Mine came with a so-so 15W amp, a gig bag and a tuner. The tuner and the amp are no good at all. The connection in the jack input in the amp has inner damage to it; I'm not sure how. I just re positioned the bass while it was plugged in, and I got an awful crackling sound, and concluded it was a faulty connection in the amp. I know it's been 7 years since I got the thing, but still... plus, 15W doesn't cut it for me.

I play punk and hard rock, and it's done alright for that style, but JetStar strikes me more as a jazz and alternative bass. Like I said, the amp that comes with it is okay, but definately not top-notch. It's very sturdy, and the controls are nice. But don't expect it to last for more than 5 years... But when it did work, it put out some good sound. Kind of a muddy sound occasionally, if you have the high tone too high, but it's not that bad. The pickups are decent enough. And I'd have to say it's more suited for the stage.

It came to me very well managed. No scratches, dents, chips, warps, etc. The pickups were a little out of place, but that was really minor, other than that, it's great quality.

The bass it very durable. Many times I've accidentally smacked it against a wall or door, but it's held up. The amp on the other hand... well, you know. The finish is good. The neck is starting to get a little faded, but I can get that re-finished some other time. The strap buttons aren't that great, and neither is the strap itself. It constantly falls off, so you've got to get a new one. It stays in tune fairly well, but for as long as I've had it, it gets out of tune every once and a while. I'd definately use this bass at a gig without a backup.

Well I play a band that does a number of styles. Punk, Hardcore, Metal, Alternative, 80's styled. It perfect for all of them. It has a really good low, that is very sexy, while not losing the sharpness either. Its not noisy. I can also do a lot of funk on it too. It works great for studio AND live. Its a tank of a guitar. Likes:The great shape. The head stock. The tuners. The sound. The wood. Fret board. Beautiful finish. Amazing feel. Can handle drop c without getting that rattle-e sound. Oh, and at the end of school of rock(the movie with jack blck) That bassist chick is playing it at the apartment. Dislikes: Little heavy.

The DeArmond Jet-Star was "hand-crafted in Korea" by Guild guitars (division of Fender). 21 frets, 2 passive single coil pickups that do a pretty nice job. This thing must have like 1/4 " clear coat all over it. It's actually a 3-piece body, but they did a really good job of hiding it. Seperate volume knobs for each pickup, and a tone knob.

We mainly play punk and ska...so most of out bass-lines go all over the neck, very fast walking bass-lines. Using it through an Ampeg B3, and it gets loud and low. It's very clean sounding, the pickups hardly ever get any feedback or electro-magnetic noise. It can cover any type of music very well.

The action was originally set a little too low, but it wasn't hard at all to raise it. Thick clear-coat defends the body of scratches and nics.

I've been playing for about 3 years, and I've always been playing the Jet-Star. It's amazing for the price. Compared to many other basses, it does a much better job of covering a wide variety of playing styles.

Korean made 4-string bass, a clone of the Guild Jet-Star bass that never hit it off in the 60's. Solid mahogany body, in a really odd but very cool shape. Echoes of both the Gibson Thunderbird and the Fender Jazz bass. Maple neck, rosewood fretboard w/ 21 frets. Two US-made passive DeArmond single coil pu's. Vol/vol/tone controls, no pu switch. Jazz-bass style bridge. Came with no extras.

I'm a guitar player and I'm just fooling around with this thing. I play it through a guitar amp, and I have no idea what the sound would be through the real thing. I only tried it in the store.

Everything seemed great, but the first day, after about an hour of playing the A string began to make a horrible buzz. This was not fret buzz, but I didn't have a clue what it was. I took it back to the store and they were just as confused as I was. Then one of the guys tried changing the string, and abracadabra, the buzz was gone. Now it works beautifully. Keep this in mind if your bass suddenly starts buzzing. The winding sometimes comes off the center of the string. The finish was black with no flaws.

This bass seems to be able to go through hell. Everything is dead solid. Korean guitars kick ass nowadays, considering their prize, which is still OK. I don't gig at all, so who knows, but I am sure it would make a great job.

As I said, I'm a guitar player, and I bought this bass after seeing the prize tag. These babies have list prizes of about 600 USD, and this was 150! I couldn't resist a bargain like that. I never regretted buying it. If it were stolen I would cry, but I would probably not buy another one, because this one was the last one in the store, and there will probably never be another opportunity like this. I got great service in the store, and I will definitely go there again. I also own a Squier Bullet electric guitar, a Norman B-20 dreadnought and an Alhambra 2C spanish guitar. I haven't given very high ratings, since I don't know a thing about bass guitars, but I love love love this bass. And again, this defines the word BARGAIN!!
