I play mostly rock and metal, and with that, the bass sounds awesome. I had some trouble with the element switcher, but that was because it was 2nd hand...
I use it with my EBS Wah One. It isn't noisy at all! A nice, warm sound is created when you select the neck humb, and a bright, full tone is produced when you select the bridge humb. I simply love this bass!
But a 9 because of the crackles when I switch the elements
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
Well, since I bought it 2nd hand, I can't tell this, but for ???250,-(instead of almost ???500,-) only the headstock was damaged (but so little, almost noone notices!)
Further, I have noticed no flaws. Good work Dean!

Everything is solid on this bass, the strap buttons too. Your strap won't come off easily, but I attached Schaller StrapLoks, so I can jump around more :P. I would DEFINITIVELY use this bass on a gig without backup.

I dealt with Customer Support for the Humbucker Selector, and they were very nice. Since it fell in the warranty, it was free, and they sent it to me in 2 weeks. Could have went some faster...
But... Good job here too!

I've been playing since my 12th, almost 15 now(15 juli 2008 is the date! Weeee!) and had a Ibanez Jumpstart. That bass played nice, but sound and tuners sucked. Bought a guitar(that was nice), and then bought this bass. I fell in love with it since I saw the model on the Dean site. It was perfect for me if it just had a Kahler Tremolo!
If it was stolen, I'd contact the thief, and let him pay for the fact that I must go and get my precious Demonator back(fuel costs). If he doesn't pay, I would kill him and leave with my bass. THATS how attached I am to that bass.

I believe it's a 2004, 22 frets, solid mahogany neckthrough design. and of course it is Black! Straight stock from DEAN, no upgrades yet.

I love the whole Sabbath, Priest, Maiden, early Rush, early Metallica Hard Rockin Early Metal Stuff. I play nuthin but Ampeg SVT Classic Heads and the 8"x10" Svt Cabs. I only use some compression, chorus/delay, a real super distortion/sustainer pedal, and a Wah pedal occasionally. But this Bass sounds great even with the stock humbuckers, I intend to put some Bartolini in the place of them since the routing size is exact

I'm a little worried about the neck being mahogany and all, but it is just fine right now. It had some fret buzz on the E for like the 3rd 4th and 5th frets but the action was so low when I purchased it. I found it to be kinda top heavy like a Gibson SG would, the neck also sliding downward. But with a big leather strap I tend tp keep it right in place. And the black finish like always is so hard to keep looking clean.

I had it about two months now and only used it for one gig. I'm hoping she holds up the playability

I bought it because it was made to replace a thunderbird. It does that perfectly. I play ALL forms of rock. its good for almost every type of rock. Its a little wierd for harder punk because the body shape makes hard picking more difficult. Nice deep rounded sound. you know, like a thunderbird.

Its all great, dean does a great black finnish and it feels great. the neck has more beef than any other dean though.

I play mostly hard rock and some speed metal, mostly in drop-d tuning. The bass has a nice deep, dark sound to it. To me, it sounds quite similar to a T-Bird. Haven't tried it for other types of music, but I don't think this would be good for anything that is lighter than rock. Currently I play through an Avatar B212 cab with a Behringer 3000XT 300 watt head. Produces a nice booming tone which is suitable for the music I play. Bottom line (no pun intended) is this is a rock bass.

Can't say how the factory setup was. Purchased it brand-new from Ed Roman Guitars in Las Vegas, via mail-order. Roman claims all guitars are set up before they leave the store, and it comes with a checklist whereby they indicated they went over every square inch of the bass, adjusted anything that needed it, and sent it out. When I received this bass, the setup was atrocious. Horrible fret buzz on all strings, 1st to 5th fret. I don't know if it was banged around during shipping, or if Roman's guys really didn't set this up, but the fret buzz was horrible. Also, bridge pickup was loose and rattled and I could not seem to tighten it. Again, not sure if this was due to shipping (which I doubt because it came in a tkl hardshell case) or if Roman's guys didn't catch this (according to the checklist, the pickups were tested and rated as "fine."). Also, headstock had a small ding in it. Not major, but I paid for a new bass and any mark on it, in my opinion, takes it out of the "new" category. Otherwise, the finish was nice. The bass was polished but is a magnet for fingerprints (don't even bother trying to keep yours shiny). No cheap glue marks anywhere, overall seems to be well made.

Have not used it live yet, but I believe this bass, once properly set up, will be ok. The hardware is good, but I noticed the low e string goes out of tune quite a bit (I play in drop d). Due to the shape and weight of this bass (seems a tad neck-heavy to me) I recommend strap locks. I would not rely upon this bass to go through an entire setlist. Definitely recommend a backup and this not be your only bass.

I bought it from Ed Roman in Las Vegas so I haven't dealt directly with the manufacturer. Ed Roman has a lot of rules for purchases and refunds that make it somewhat difficult to return an instrument, so you'd better be very sure whatever instrument you buy from him is the one you want, because if you have to return it, he will give you a hard time. When I first received this bass, the fret buzz was awful and I probably could have sent the bass back (note- Ed Roman only has a 24 hr. trial period for his stuff) but that would have entailed packing it up, paying the shipping charges, and being without the bass for however many weeks while they worked on it. According to Dean, bass comes with a 5 yr. warranty. I decided to bypass the hassle of dealing with Ed Roman (and mail order in general) by taking it to my local luthier for service. It's much easier. Personally I will not do the mail order thing again. Too much of a headache. And I think Ed Roman is way overrated. How he manages to stay in business and be as popular as he is with his Nazi-like policies is beyond me.

Been playing for about 11 years now. See all my comments above. The purchase of this bass has made me very wary of buying any musical equipment via mail order. Don't believe the hype when it comes to Ed Roman, either. Now that I have this bass, I will make the most of it, but I had I checked it out beforehand, I would not have purchased it. Overall, if everything works good, this is a decent mid-priced Korean bass for rock/metal players. The body shape, in my opinion, makes it harder to play with a pick. I am much more comfortable using my fingers for this bass.

Sounds dark, yet can still be funky, fat, and smooth. I have yet to play a bass that sounds better through overdrive/distortion. Very quiet pickups and electronics, dual humbuckers produce almost no noise whatsoever.
Action, Fit, & Finish

The action is nice and low. The pickups seem to be at a good height. There is one small finish flaw that is non-noticeable. All hardware is in outstanding condition. Overall, VERY difficult to pick out flaws...

This bass is a beast. It is heavy. The hardware is top notch stuff. Truss rod needed small adjustment right after purchase, neck was slightly bowed back, but this was after tuning down a ways, which may have caused the need for adjustment. I would have no problems taking this bass on stage, which will happen in just a few weeks...

I love this bass. I have played many basses, and this one is terrific. I love it's overall sound and look, they both scream "DEMONATOR". If I had to name one thing I don't like about it, it would probably be the volume knob being too close to where I strum the high string (obviously not a huge flaw). I paid a lot less than this bass is worth, IMHO. I have quickly fallen in love with my Demonator, and I cherish it more than any other instrument in my arsenal. It truly is a beauty. http://defconzero.tk

Dean Demonator bass. Gloss Black with black hardware. Grover tuners. Two peice bridge, dean soapbar pups, actve preamp, volume, blend, treble & bass controls. Mohagony body, 3 peice mohaony neck Neck thru body design. Rosewood fretboard, mother of pearl inlays, 22 frets. Brass nut. No binding on neck but very good fret finishing. Medium size frets
While changing the battery, noticed one of the small green wires that connects to the blend control
wasnt soldered properly. Causing loose connection & resulting loss of volume when turned toward bridge pup. So that fixed, volume between pups is
corrected. Gibson thunderbirds dom have volume drop to bridge pup. The dean doesnt after all. Yippee! Lol.
Sound
:8
Excellent sound. Very quite, no hum, has full rounded sound kinda like a gibson thunderbird but better imo. Like the thunderbird, the bridge pup is weaker then the neck one. Mainly a bass for leaving the blend at even and varying sound via the bas & treble controls. Good dark sound with plenty if cut thru available.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
Lowered action just a little. Adjusted bridge pup a little. No flaws found. Very good finish though prefers unpainted necks. Comfortable neck, slim but not real slim. Tightened screws to part of bridge strings anchor into.
Reliability/Durability
:9
Should hold up just fine. Like most guitars & bass makers today, the strap buttons need replacing with either wider top ones or straplocks.

Has been playing since was a young teen. The Demonator bass reminds me a lot of Gibson thunderbird bass. But better much balanced & overall better sound imo. Finding a gigbaglong enough to accomadate it was a little difficult. Is about the same length as thunderbird. Got a Perri's gigbag that fits it ok as long as strap a(Has straplocks on it) is removed. Got it as a nice alernate bass to my Warwick Vampyre. Kinda on a whim. Cause had a Gibson thundebirdin the latter 70's & found I like this basses balance (Doesnt nose dive like thunderbrds) & liked sound better then modern thunderbird basses. Excellent value for price in a neck thru, mohogany bass.
