Looks like a 2004 model, made in Korea. Basswood body with red trans finish, 5 piece maple/walnut neck bolt on, 9Vt Active electronics with
Vol, Blend, Bass, Treble knobs, separate battery compartment with pop-up door, 34 inch scale, jumbo frets, Grover tuners { nice and snug and accurate} Black hardware, decent bridge with thick saddles, pickups are two soapbars { humcanceling }. Neck is uniform and on the thin side but fills the palm nicley. Four Strings.
Sound
:10
This is an all purpose bass with excellent sound and tone!
Slightly noisy with treble knob cranked, but I've heard noisier!
You really won't need to crank the treble much past center anyway.
The lows are rich and deep with lots of natural midrange growl.
This bass is for those who need an all purpose bass, but can't afford spending $1400.00.
Action, Fit, & Finish

Factory setup was good, it only needed a string change and a tweak of the saddles for my own taste. Frets are all smooth and even, action is low and very playable. No fret buzz!
Reliability/Durability

Strap buttons are big and tight, all you need is a strap with nice stiff ends and you'll be okay. I'd gig with this without a backup!
Just be sure to take a spare battery!

4 String, active electronics, 2 Dean "soap bar" pickups, made in Korea in 2000. Clear (transparent) finish over a blue/turquoise base stain. Laminated neck - evidently maple and mahogany - that looks sharp (2 dark stripes down the back) and has been good and stable for me. The color, since it's a stain, varies quite a bit. Still, a nice looking guitar for only $130.
Sound
:8
I like the variety and braod spectrum of sound from the active electronics. Seems a bit weak in output, but that could be due to the '67 Bassman amp I'm playing through. One pot has developed some noise. I haven't taken the time to spray some pot cleaner in it, since it's almost unnoticeable.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
I bought this guitar used, and had to reset the action, and adjust the neck. Not a problem, and now the action is low and fast. Fit and finish is fine, except for the normal wide variation in color on a stained guitar (vs painted).

I play live, about weekly. It's been very dependable - I have no backup bass, so I'm counting on it. So far, it's not let me down in the year or so I've been playing. Strap buttons could be a bit larger - nearly lost (dropped) it once, but then again, I was in a hurry.

The control functions on this guitar aren't real clear, so I emailed Dean for a users manual. THE NEXT DAY I had a response saying Dean doesn't provide maunals, but he DID send a photo of a bass with a description of each knob and its function. I thought this was extraordinary customer service, especially compared to another company whose name starts with a G, who, after two days, said "go see your dealer".
I was VERY impressed with Dean's customer service!

I've played 6-string guitar for 40 years, but the church band needed a bass player, so I 'volunteered' and bought what I thought was the best combination of low cost and reasonable quality. I have a Dean 12-string that has been an exceptional value, so, after a little research, decided on a Dean Bass. It hasn't let me down! While certainly not a pro bass player, I know enough about guitars to say this is an excellent balance of performance and price. Korean-made, the quality is very good. Fret edge treatment is good (no sharp edges), finish good, all-around good workmanship. Great styling - not too conservative, but not over-the-top head-banging wild. If I ever need another bass, I'd definitely buy this guitar again, except go for the 5-string model.

Korean Made. Mine is a Dean Edge Vendetta. Nice Tiger flame maple finish. EMG active pups. Came w/ black Grover tuners and hardware Beautiful inlay work on headstock (Dean logo) and all up and down the 24-fret resewood fretboard over thin, bolt-on 5 piece maple & walnut neck. Excellent finish on the jumbo frets. Well-made Badass-style bridge. Four controls wiht detents.

Wow... this is my first active bass, although I have played many. Great variety of tones. I play in a power trio where I do a lot of choirding and fast fills. This bass articulates the notes and chords very well. Clean, no noise, and FULL sounding. So far, I've used it with an Ampeg B115 and a Crate Powerblock into 4-10s for practice and it sounds great. My gig rig: Dean Markley tube preamp, (2) QSC 600W amps into (3) 2-10 cabs -- has all manner of sound shaping.

This was a real surprise. I've purchased a few other Korean-made instruments (Parker, Agile, RWG) and they have always done a great job on quality. But the fretwork and inlay work on this bass is absolutely flawless.
The neck and bridge needed a little minor adjusting to suit my taste (and to perfect the intonation) and I'm not a fan of the supplied strings (I think they're D'addario).
There wasn't a nick or scratch on the bass. The nut, some sort of plastic

It's new, so who knows? Being a very thin neck, I will assume it will take more care and feeding than the average bass. I'll be gigging with it, so I'll update this post in a year or so. since the fit and hardware all seem first class, I'll give it a 9.

I've been playing since the 60s. I own a '63 Fender Jazz and an 80s Yamaha fretless, among others, so I know my basses. This one plays faster and easier than the Jazz, which is really saying something.
The neck is thinner than the Jazz, and that will take some getting used to. Overall, I love the look and the sound...and the light weight of the Vendetta. If lost or stolen, I'd definitely get another one.

Im uncertain about the year it was made but it's 24 frets. This is a four string model. It has two volumes and a tone. The pickups are Dean's soap bar pickups. It's a passive bass but packs one heck of a punch on my 1x15 cabinet. As for construction it has a basswood body with a bolt-on maple neck and a rosewood fingerboard. It has chrome hardware I give it an 8 out of 10 because the construction is fantastic for this price range but i'd like a little extra like active pickups or different options on woods.
Sound
:9
I give this bass a 10 on sound. I run it through a BX model behringer head with an ampeg 1x15 cabinet. I can make this bass sound like metal and still get a rich tone to sound jazzy. The only set back is for slap it does not get a lot of pop. You have to adjust your amp settings before you can get a nice tone out of it. But it's still very versitle. In the studio its quiet and handles nicely for recordings.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:6
I never got it adjusted , it plays very well the action was set just right except for the low E was a little high. It was flawless construction that managed to get me out. I may have been lucky but the way it's body is shaped makes it a comfortable fit for me. It's very light because of the basswood.
Reliability/Durability

I have not played live yet with this bass but in the jam situation it has taken a beating. It's solid but the only problem i've had is the input for the instrument cable the nut begins to get lose every once and a while an easy problem to fit with a good set of wrenches.

I have never called Dean so I cannot make a comment here. But information about this particular model is readily availiable online. And with that I've been able to solve most my problems so I give it an 8 out 10.

2003, I think, 24 fret bass made in Korea. Has two very nice Dean soapbar pickups, active electornics with volume, pan, and separate cut/boost for treble and bass. Body is basswood, nice and light, with a beautiful transparent finish -- red, in this case. A nice massive bridge, black metal, like all the rest of the hardware (including some nice, heavy duty knurled knobs). It even has a separate battery compartment int he back (although I wish this was an 18-volt system). It has a rather thin neck--a little thinner, I think, than a jazz, as I own a jazz bass and this neck feels thinner. Superfast neck, anyway, with excellent fret finish.

I feel in love with this bass the minute I heard it. Good range of tone, although, while I like the electronics on it, the pots could have a bit better range. Can get a really deep, rich tone from this bass, which is exactly what I wanted. Also can get nice articulated highs without a bunch of noise, which is rare, especially on such an affordable bass. No noise at all, due to the active electronics. Right now I am using it with a Hartke B60 and, ocassionally, a Digitech BP50 effects pedal (which I also love), but it sounds great just played straight into the amp, as well. It even sounds great unplugged, the sign of a great piece of wood.
Action, Fit, & Finish

Perfect fit and finish; just beautiful--I can't believe they can make a bass this beautiful at this price point. I love abalone inlay, and this has abalone dots on the fretboard, as well as an abalone Dean inlay in the headstock. It feels great. Frets are level, no frets sticking out the side of the board--this is just flawless right out of the box. The action is great. Strange, it is set at what I would describe as medium action, yet it still plays easily--easier than my jazz bass, which I had professionally set up to give excellent no-buzz low action. I think it is the skinny neck and excellent fret job that makes this play so easy and so well. I was thinking of lowering the action, but see no reason to. Leave well enough alone. I always look for basses that help me create new things. I mean, I know it's all in the player, but some basses just let you perform a little more magic. They let you play with such ease that you start doing things you never did before. This is one of those basses.
Reliability/Durability

I've only had it for a short while, and I don't really play out, so for me it will most likely last. The finish is so beautiful, I am being very careful with this, as I don't want to mar it. But, everything feels solid, from the control knobs on down to the 4" wide pickups (the only thing I don't like. I think a four-string should use 3.5" soapbars, but my feeling is that to save money--and I don't know this for sure--they route the four and five-string versions for the same wider pickups. It doesn't really matter since I think the soapbars use a single pole piece, but it is an indication of the lower price point--thankfully, it's the only such indication, and I can live with it. I'm not even thinking of upgrading the pick-ups, as they sound great, but EMG makes a 4" soapbar that looks to fit this one (although I have not tried it. I do know that some models of the Edge ship with EMG hz pickups, so I assume they are routed the same way).

Haven't needed it so I can't say. I do not like their website, though. Not much info on it and many spelling errors (not that I haven't made some here, along with a bunch of syntax errors, but I'm not a corporate concern trying to sell a product, either). One nice thing about their web site--they have a links only option for those of us on slow dial-up lines. At least they were thinking of their customers in that regard, so maybe that bodes well for their service. I think it has a five-year warranty.

I love this bass. I was not even planning on buying a bass, but I saw it, played it, and bought it with no second thoughts. Apparently, the music store had just sold their blue version of this bass the day before, so I'm not the only one who likes them. I have to say that I like this bass even more than high-priced basses I have tried, including Warwicks, even though the two are totally different feeling basses. The Edge 4 is a beautiful bass--even my wife, who never likes to see me purchase anything, agreed that it was incredibly good looking--and she never says that about any of the things I buy! Then, to play it--you just don't want to put it down, except to go write a glowing review. I tend to buy and then sell a lot of instruments, as my tastes change, but this one is here to stay. I cannot think of parting with it, and if I lost it I would immediately begin looking for another. It is, as the rating says, a fantastic value.

This is a really nice 4-string electric bass. My gitar is transparent red and fitted with black hardware, e.g. black Grover tuners. The body is made of solid basswood and holds the two passive humbucker pickups (EMG HZ) and an active Dean pre-amp. The sound may be altered with use of the treble and bass controls besides the pickup blend and volume controls. The bolt-on neck is a 34" scale with 24 frets and is built from five(!) lamina of maple and walnut. The rosewood fingerboard is then nicely decorated with 12 dot inlays.
Sound

As I almost never tweek the tone controls, I'm completely happy with the unaltered sound. Playing the bass through my Peavey Basic 50 doesn't give the bass full sound capability, but with a Hartke B120 (not mine though) the 4-string guitar sound gets to the "top of the pops"... I never have to EQ the Edge 4 or the amp B120 to get a great sound for playing gospel/soul/pop or smooth and mellow songs. I would think of the bass' sound as modern with a focused and rich touch. Very low-noise! Sometimes I'll use my Zoom 506II effect to get hard-to-get-from-EQ sounds. Really fun!
Action, Fit, & Finish

The set-up from factory was good. Not too high and not too low, but I wanted a low-action to make the already slim neck to fit my playing style better, so I set the action myself. Then I replaced the end strap buttons with a set of Schaller Security Lock.
The first winter was a pain to my new bass. The lack of humidiy made the neck "crazy" and I had to adjust the truss rod and even file down some of the fretwires. But, hey! Now the bass is a real joy to play.

I would higly recommend this bass for live playing. The only spare part I have at live events is a brand new 9 V battery (you'll never know when the battery is empty).

I have been playing bass for about 10 years (about 6 effective years though) and my set up are the Edge 4, an acoustic bass guitar (AB-05CE) from Morgan Instruments, a Peavey Basic 50 combo amp and the Zoom 506II. I don't know if I would buy another Edge 4 if it was stolen or lost. Perhaps I would try out other bass gear, but I would certainly recommend this particular bass guitar to anyone buying a bass.
