This is an addition to the bass that I already submitted a review for. While I applaud the use of two truss rods in such a wide neck, the neck can not maintain it's shape for more than a month or two. It's gotten to the point that I leave the truss rod cover off, and the necessary wrenches for both the truss rod(s) and saddle height adjustment in my gigbag. On the plus side, running the bass through an outboard preamp/mixer evens out the lack of volume from the pickups. Until I become a Modulus endorsee, this will be my six string fretless on all gigs despite it's periodic scoliosis.

2001 Dean Edge 6-string fretless bass, with Dean active nine-volt pickups, 35" scale (a must for a tight, focused low B), gorgeous grainy rosewood blank fingerboard with position markers on the edge of the fingerboard, grover tuners, and a transparent black finish.

Sound : 8
For the price, this is a good sounding bass. My only critique is that the pickups are about ten percent weaker than the EMG's that I have in other basses. But, since this isn't a three-thousand dollar bass, the output is adequate.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
I only had to make minor adjustments to the action, which I lowered, and was impressed to find two truss-rods that needed about a half turn each to straighten the neck to my preferences. Once I re-strung it with LaBella blacktapewound strings, it looked more like a weapon than a bass! As far as the control cavity goes, I double-sided taped the preamp circuit board to the control cavity cover as it was knocking around inside.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This bass has become my main bass in the band Echoface. Overall I am very satisfied with the bass. Until I come across an EMG-equipped Modulus 6-string fretless with a blank fingerboard (to match my fretted Modulus 6),this will do.

Has a generous five year warranty.

Overall Rating : 9
All in all, this bass is a great value for the money. For those of you thinking about moving onto a 5 or 6, this bass should be at the top of your list (for basses under a thousand).
