2000 Model, EMG-Hz's, laminated maple neck, pretty much the same as all the other reviews.

Sounds great with new strings, but I agree with the one review that said it has no tone. Once the strings get some wear, it's dead. I use DR strings, and they give it some extra life, but not enough to resurrect any tone from it. It is quiet, though, and is a good bass for recording (with new strings, of course).

Finish is good. I got the transparent black on mine. Setup was good, but that's because I bought from a store where I know the guitar tech. String spacing did take some getting used to, as well as the neck width, because I've played a '73 Rickenbacker 4001 for the past 20 years. Once I was used to it, it played fairly well.

Had it almost 2 years with no problems. Stands up well to gigs, never had to use my backup. Strap buttons will come loose, though. Definitely get strap locks.

I'm looking at other basses as I write this. It's good for a $500 bass, but that's about it.

I only whant to add that after having it two and a half years I have changed the pickups for original EMG soapbars and it kicks ass. It really took it up to studio quality sound, only that the bridge still sucks and that it is really heavy when you're playing a couple of hours standing up (EMG PU's about $120 each :))

I own a year 2000 model. Mine is a custom made one. Pretty much the same out of the box with a different color and bridge. Everything else is straight out of the box.

I LOVE THIS SOUND! I also own a gibons thunderbird and this blows it away. I play in a progressive-neo classical metal band. I have recorded two albums with this bass and it never ever lets me down. I find I like the sound from that it gets with all the knobs cranked sometimes lower the bridge pick-up when recording an acoustic part. I use this bas through a hartke head with the lows and highs slightly higher than the mids. This bass is full of mids and lows with soaring highs. GREAT for chords and tremelo picking. Each note punches hard. I don't use much effects. Sometimes the light chorus.

This bass came to me perfect. I did however have to change the saddle. I decided to go with really thicker strings for the sake of recording and they did not fit in the saddle that came stock. The rest of the bass was perfect. The action is perfect for the style I play. But with work on the new album and some more crazier stuff I have decided to possibly lower the action a VERY small amount just for the sake of me being lazy.

This bass has with stood a great beating. Everything seems to be in great workig order. I have not had to replace anything due to abuse. Just preference. I have not had to adjust anything. I would totally go to a gig withiout a back up. ANd i have plenty of times. I plan on actually buying another one of these exact basses in case this one breaks a string.

I love this bass. It isn't perfect. I am just amazed at how great this bass was with the price tag. I chose this bass because of the sound and the comfort. If this bass was stolen I would hunt down whoever took it and beat them with a yamaha bass. Especailly that horrible John Myung bass.

I bought a Dean Edge 6 bass and boy I loved it. Notice how I am speaking in past tense! The peice of crap is a 98', and was made in Korea I believe. It has 24 frets which was nice but the string placement sucked. I have played many other six's and the distance between strings sucks. If you play funk this bass is out of the question. It has no punch what so ever, and after trying to pull some Victor Wooten licks my bridge whould make a faint cracking/popping noise when I would do multiple pops at a time. I had it checked out by a repair dude, and was told by him the bridge is a peice of crap!
Well the bass has great looks but that is about it! Tonal quality does not exist in this bass!

One highlight of this bass was it is almost built like a tank! One of my bandmates accidentally dropped it out of his truck when it was in a gig bag and it was fine! The neck remained perfect after falling on it from a few feet!

This is a 1998/99 model and its Korean, It is 6 string and has 24 frets. I think its basswood solid top. you can read more on www.deanguitars.com. It has two volume controls and one tone. It has two EMG-HZ soapbar PU. The bass is totaly passive. Its transparent red (beautyfull) its slightly offset body, pretty rounded like the ibanez SR's. Has black grover tuners. It's 35" scale whith. It only brought the allen key.

I play prog rock (Dream theater) and it gives me all I couldn't do with my 4-string. You can do chords and more complicated tapping on it. The output is low as it is passive, which is the worst thing it has, but with any good amp you con fix that. The bridge PU is a bit noisy and not as loud as the bridge PU. You can bassicaly get three sounds out of it bright and punchy (bridge PU), deep low end (neck PU) and low and bright (both PU). I use the bridge PU only and never never turn the tone control down. I only use a DOD compressor with it and it makes it sing. I think all bassist should have a good compressor in their toolkit. The sound options are pretty limeted, but probably all 'cause of the simple circuit. Probably an active EMG onboard pre-amp whould make the bass bring the sound up to eleven. I'm planing on getting one.

the acction is good, not as low as I would like it. The finishing is excellent, except for the neck/body joint wher the fitting hole is a bit bigger than the neck, but this is hardly notisable. I think the bridge is the low point because I can't lower it any more. If you like realy low action with fretbuzz and all that(billy sheehan), you will not manage it. The bass looks increadebly cool. It's hard to set because it has two truss-rods (and the poor bridge), If you don't know how to set a bass dont try learning on this one

I've played live with it lots of times and never had a problem (except for getting very tired). The finish looks great but I think it isn't very good quality. If you treat it properly it should remain fancy looking. Itis my second bass as my first is a Status Matrix, that is a real monster. I would use it on a gig without backup as I think unreliable equipment is crap. I have two basses because they are different not to support one another.

I think the best thing it has is a really good price/value ratio. I've been playing around 4 years, and I'm pretty good. As I'm a student I dont have much money and this is about half you whould pay for the next six-string on the cheap list. I still play four string but this gives me more options when recording. I use a Status Matrix, graphite neck throughbody as firs bass, and a Warwick Protube IV with a Warwick 411 cab and a Home made 15. I think with a small amp you whould have problems with the low B and the low PU output. It is a bit heavy, but it is very solid and well built( you dont want it falling to bits) probably the four string isn't that heavy. If I had paid $1000 I would expect a bit mose, but under 500 I think it's the best. It seams Dean has managed to get good instruments at low prices. I'm even thinking of geting a Edge 4 Fretless.

this is a korean made 98 model it has 24 frets and it is a 6 string bass it has 2 volume, and 1 tone controls it has 2 passive emg humbuckers it has a transparent black finish it has grover tuners, which are amazing the neck is obviously huge seeing as it's a 6 string, but it is easy to adjust to, it's not that fat, it's 36" scale

i have been playing for over 2 years and i also have an ibanez tr 70 bass, which i defretted, and it really sucks. if this was stolen i would cry like a little girl, because they don't make them anymore, and i couldn't get one. my favorite fearture is that it's a 6 string and i can play any style on it, and in any tuning
