This Dean bass was handmade in Europe It has an alder body with a flame maple top. This bass is a real looker. It has a pearloid talon inlay on the 12 fret that is amazing, but amazing is what should be expected on a custom bass. Anyway, it is the 4 string model (a five string was made, but I've heard that the low-B isnt so good). Its 34" scale & 1-9/16" Nut neck make it a large, but very playable bass. It has great black-chrome Grover Tuners, and stays in tune very well. The pickups rock. They're EMG-HZ Active pickups that pop & sparkle.
Sound

The sound is very flexible. The EMG-HZ neck pickup gives a very lively (if somewhat noisy) sound usable for nearly anything. The back pickup gives a very traditional p-bass sound for tamer songs. I play it through a fender bassman 60 and the combination gives me real versatility from classic rock, to metal, to funkier chili-peppers stuff.
Action, Fit, & Finish

The action on this bass is really low, but I really like it that way. The low-ness (is that a word?) unfortunatly gives it some minor fret noise. The finish of this bass is a translucent quilted-red masterpiece. I've gotten many compliments on it and all fender p-bass and j-bass players are envious of the look. With the pearloid and abilone (sp?) - talon inlay, this bass is a work of art.

Not had one problem yet. The bass is solid and it could go anyway and do anything.
