2 humbucking pickups + 3 band active EQ. Through neck, badass II bridge. Beautiful sunburst style finish.

Sound : 8
I agree with the other reviewer. It doesn't have the punchiest of sounds. Neverthesless does sound quite warm and the 3 band active EQ does give you a lot of options, although if not used wisely can sound a little extreme.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 4
Set up was really poor. The first gig I used this on the badass II bridge basically collapsed leaving me without an E string! Action wasn't bad however and general finish was good.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Haven't used it a great deal live yet. I've only had it for 6 months. However, apart from initial teething problems with the bridge it does give the impression of being solidly made. Finish seems quite thick and the hardware is generally solid.

E-mailed Dean UK about problems with the bridge and never got a reply!

I've been playing for over 20 years and this was the first active bass I purchased. I also own a Warwick Corvette, G&L SB2 Tribute, Yamaha RBX774 and a Yamaha RBX460. I play through a Trace Elliot AH400SMX head with 2X10 and 1X15 Warwick cabs. The Dean looks beautiful, has a great neck (I've got small hands) and has a useful range of sounds. However, I've never really fallen in "love" with it the way you do some basses. Would I buy again? Probably not.

My bass is an Edge Pro Tiger Eye four string made in 2003. It has a bass wood body with a mapel and walnut thru-neck. The top of the body is bookmateched quilted maple (though it looks more like flamed to me).

The hardwear is a pair of Dean active soapbar pickups and a Dean 3D preamp all powered by a 9v battery in a nice little flip open compartment in the back. (which makes change during a set possible).

The body style is a slightly off center classic bass shape - its hard to describe well but not particually unusual. The bridge is a Badass Bass and the tuners are Grover.

The neck is a 34" scale with 24 frets and is a medium sized C shape. No accessories came with this guitar though it fits most standard gig bads and hard cases

Sound : 7
The sound is quite modern, suited well to rock and punk. Sometimes i feel it is missing a little punch but this is really a matter of personal taste.

I use this through an Ashdown MAG300 combo or occasionally through a Carlsbrogh Kick Start 25.

I would say that the sound is dark and full to warm - it tends to icepick a little when i try to get bright with it - but this may be the way i'm eqing it. One thing that i would say is that the pickups seem very powerful to the point where the speaker in the 25watt amp sound like its going to blow if i turn the volume over about 3 ( this dose not happen with my Fender Bass) - not really a problem if you using a larger amp but worth considering for begginers.

I like this bass for Rock (Rachel Stamp - The Mars Volta) but find that the tone just isnt there for the mellower tracks (TRHCP, Jamiroque) and am now looking for another bass to fill this neich.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The finish is beautiful on this - you would think that i cost twice what it did - and the buid quality is amazing. the action is good and all of the hardwear is flawless. In this department this is the bst bass i've ever come across.

Also the bookmatched top is near perfect - the sort that i would expect on a PRS, not a Dean korian Bass - it may be that i was just lucky with this but as with the reast of the bass - the quility is amazing

Reliability/Durability : 10
This is very reliable and durable - if any bass is built to last then this is it. The battery seems to last about three months of regular playing before sounding a little dull and the whole thing is very solid.

I would certainly take this without a backup - no question there

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've never dealt with Dean

This is a really solid bass with great looks that plays well - not great but well. It is set up well but i find the sounds a bit harsh for my liking.

If it was stolen i would look at dean but i think that i may go for something else that has a mellower tone than this.

I love the beautiful woods and the great feel of this bass as well as the innovative battery compartment. Sadly i hate the harsh tones, which at the end of the day is what its all about.

For metal this mite suit more (but would prob look out of place) but for funk and softer rock this is a bit to harsh.
