This bass has a very neutral sound. It's a halfway between an active and a passive. It can acheive warm middy tones but when played alongside a Fender Jazz it doesnt have half the presence. It can do good twangy sounds and some decent slap tones if you want that. But for ultra low Motown or ska grooves, it just doesnt have the oomph of a P-bass or a J-bass. So depending on what you want to do with it it mightn't suit your style. That said it does very well in most modern sound settings.

When it comes to playability the neck is thinner than some jazz necks I've played and it is quite easy to play. However action is in a perpetual state of being at a medium height. I don't think proper low action is possible.

This bass is a testament to the craftmanship of the Korean (I believe) factories. Over the three or so years I've had it there have been no major problems. The screw in the "top" strap button was inclined to loosen itself untill I changed it for a thicker one. So that could be a problem mid gig.

Even though it doesn't suit my needs it is a nice bass. It seems that I'm , like so many others, being drawn into the P-bass camp. However for modern rock, modern funk, metal and most anything where sharper tones are pursued over warm tones than this could be your bass!

My eq4b was a 2004 not sure from where though, 24 frets a beuatiful colour, 1 volume and 3 tone selectors, amazing sounding bartolini pickups. Active with a great body shape perfect for my size. Grover tuners and a rosewood neck.

Sound is unmatched to any bass i have heard for this sort of price, it has a massive tone range. I mainly use it for heavy rock and metal and it has such a rich and full sound, but if i ever feel the need to slap some riffs i can get that nice powerful high end as well.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The only problem i have found with this bass is a bit of fret buzz around the E string, due to the fact that the truss rod is a bit shit and i broke one of the pieces holding it up whilst playing it was simple to fix with a small amount of plastic, but that still didn't eliminate all of the fret buzz. Other than that after much heavy playing it has held up perfectly.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Can't really ask for a more reliable bass, i have played quite a few and this is the only one, i could play a gig with and only worry about the strings snapping. Npthing on it apart from the forementioned looks at all broken.

At the moment because money is short i am running through a bossme50b and a peavey tnt 115 150w, a few eq adjustments and i can get some amazing sounds. If it were stolen I would chase the culprit round the earth rip his head off and **** down his neck, and then take my bass home. and or buy another one.

Bass was made in 2003 in Korea 4 string 24 frets basswood body with quilted flame maple top. Controls are active vol p/u balance bass and treble. The p/u are Barts BARBB4cb neck, and BArbb4d2 bridge.Neck maple with rosewood with trasparent finish. Body like a small Jazz well balanced but unfortunately the contour cutaway that I'm used to that fits into my body (aka Fender) is too shallow for my liking and I'm thinking I will have this fixed because the bass is a keeper. Grover machine heads neck 1"9/16 at nut 34" medium frets. B

This is the first time I've had Barts with active controls and it is sweet. I love the sounds I get with this bass it does it all for me. I usually use a compressor and occasionally envolpe filter, lately I've used chorus for folky pop I'm helping a band with. My first love is r&b,funk, rock, and smooth jazz to take advantage of that midrange growl that barts are so good at, rich and full. If I'm out jamming at the local blues club, swing to the neck p/u for the bottom that is felt not heard. It works well in both the studio and live.

I always set up the action when I get a bass, do intonation etc. this one did not respond as well as some basses but once I got it as close to what I wanted as I could about 3/16th at the 12th fret its been solid. I had to raise it slightly from my preferred height because of some fret buzz on the frets near the nut? Dressing of neck was excellent better than some of my more expensive basses I've owned. The 5 piece neck did have a knot about halfway up which caused a ripple in the finish but its a player's bass not a show piece, mind you the quilt looks great.

This bass has been with me for a few years and has given me no problems. Hardware is first rate, always in tune, and after a few goes at setting the truss rod, hasn't been touched in 2 years.

No contact, no problems that warrant calling them. Their web site has a lot of reviews, seems like most owners are enthusiastic.

I've been playing for 35 yrs and I have several basses all with something to make them a keeper. This bass is a well kept secret because I bought mine on Ebay for $245 used, and they often sell for that price but it plays and sounds like what I've wanted for my career and works for all occassions. The combo of barts for sound, price and fancy quilt can't, in my opinion can't be beat, and I would definately get one again if I lost or broke it. My only regret is that I found it so late, but it certainly fills the bill for all the spare time I have to fill in retirement.
