This is a 24 fret, neck thru body (five piece neck), 5 string bass. Beautiful flame maple top (transparent black). It has a volume control and 3 band EQ. It has active electronics (the battery is quite easy to change). It has a very thin body. I purchased it with a case.

This bass suits my music styles well. I play rock, jazz, swing, and worship music. I use a pevey Basic 112 bass amp. I occationaly use a phase or overdrive stomp box but it has such a nice full soud I don't use them a lot. The volume is a little scrachy. It is very difficult to get a good slap bass sound due to the high possition of the neck pickup.

I bought this bass used so I can't comment on factory set up but their are no set up or design flaws (except for one small ding the privious owner put in the back of it).

This bass is vey solid and dependable and I have giged without a backup before. But I usualy bring my Fender fretless jazz bass along and split time between the two. My only conern is the strap buttons. I'd replace them with straplocks if the bass wasn't so thin.

I've been playing for about two years and also own a Ibanez SR and a Fender fretless MZ jass bass. If it were stolen I would look to buy a fretles version of the same.

5-string neck-thru-body, active electronics. Korean made? Flame maple top, transparent candy red. Mahogany / maple neck, rosewood fretboard, 24 frets. A very thin bass, neck and body. Regular surface-assembled bridge. Lately made fretless. 2 "EMG design" humbuckers. A modern-shaped body.

I found it a decent overall tool. Due to it's a bit dark overall sound, it worked better fretless with a waxed fretboard. The controls work well, but the treble is frequence-speaking a bit low, so it doesn't even enhance those deadly-hifi-bright tones. But the sound is smooth and punchy. The pickups are EMG design, not really EMG's.
I played a lot of wedding gigs and that kind of dance-music, latino, old-time hits, also a bit rock and pop music, and it was very easy to suit all kinds of playing styles mostly only with the pickup balance pot.

The bass came unplayable. (Postal services used.) Tuss rod and string heights didn't let the strings to even vibrate. Would have been sent back, but I was too excited about it, so I made it suitable for playing. Finish and looks are very good.

This is a good and easy bass to play due to its thin neck and good feel hanging there. Good neck/body balance. All in all, every detail is made well, and no problems had arised lately. Tuss rod keeps its place now, when once put good. Battery lasts long, so no backup needed for my gigs with this.

I hadn't tested this before I ordered it. I might have turned a bit on the Yamaha-side if I had. But lately with my Dean fretless, I never regretted, it was a pretty good sounding bass and comfortable to play.

This bass is made in Tchechia. This was a big surprise ... A 1999 model.
Fivestring neck-tru (really one piece, including head), 35", three-piece laminated, 24 frets, rather flat and thin neck. Maple neck, rosewood fretboard, alder body wings, flame maple top, oiled. Controls: Volume, Blend, Bass, Treble. Two EMG-HZ active pickups (humbuckers). Body style: somewhat JB. Black hardware, 3D adjustable bridge, Gotoh tuners.
This bass is flawless, not a single thing to complain about, from finish to fretting. Really high quality and craftmanship. I never expected this quality for 700 US$.
It's not really tons of features but more than you expect.

It's a rock bass, no doubt. Not to compare with Jazz Bass or anything else, has its own sound and feel.
The PUs provide a transparent and punchy sound (EMGs!). Due to the neck-thru construction the sound is full of harmonics and the sustain is endless. The two PUs have the same effect as in a JB: one with punch and bottom, the bridge PU more dry and crunchy. Combined a crystal clear sound with some punch and drive.
The active sound control is a little bit noisy (but acceptable).

Setup from the factory was perfect, with a little bit to much action for me. I changed to a high C string instead of a low B. The bass was easy to setup and adjust. Intonation is also perfect.
After changing strings, adjusting neck and bridge I got a very low action with a minimum of fret buzz. The bass is now a little bit like a Stick, because of its extreme behaviour in sustain and response.
The 35" is really different from a 34" neck. You should not have short fingers for it.

It's really well made. I would never go a gig without backup. I think I will love and keep it.

My Fender Jazz Bass and a Washburn XB600 were my previous workhorses. The Dean will combine those application areas. I really have to get used to it because it needs much accuratess and control, soundwise.
Competitors were Fender Jazz Bass V, Yamaha TRB5 II, Ibanez, e.s.h and some others. They lost.
The Dean reacts to every change in playing, dynamically. I was suprised that you can get such an excellent instrument for this price.
