Probably made somewhere end 80s early 90s in Japan. Looks like a Fender Jazzbass with the Fender lawsuit headstock. Head is the same colour as the body (purple) and has the ESP logo and "800 series" on it. Tuners are also traditional Fender style. Gold hardware, passive electronics, 2 jazzbass elements.
Maple neck with rosewood fretboard. ESP neckplate lays into body (I haven't seen that before).

Very good sound with good definition. Sounds like a Fender Jazz but with a little less 'grunt', somewhat cleaner. Not much low though. No noise from the elements.

I bought it 3rd hand in 2007 but it still looks nice and plays very well. Neck is very straight, no fret resonance. Paint was done well, see through purple with transparant finish.

Good for studio work but also reliable for on stage. Doesn't detune.

According to info on the internet (see ESP 800 series strat), the 800 series wasn't made as a production model. Shop owners that reached a certain sales quota, were allowed to buy an 800 series for themselves. They weren't supposed to sell them and only 1 instrument was allowed per region. i bought this bass 3rd hand for EUR 300.

Seemingly quiet a rare bass so I'm happy to have found it!
