I own this Bass, it is a 2005 Model and one of the Best basses I have ever owned. Built in Indonesia, it has 22 frets 4 strings and Neck Through Build. The only difference between the ESP and LTD is where they are made. it has an Active 3 band EQ with T,M,B Boost and Blend Knob from Front to back with Volume control. I am not sure what the base wood it but it is a maple top and Maple and Mohogany Neck. Gototh Tuners and Bridge with String Through Body for even mor sustain it has 2 EMG 35HZ passive Pickups and a 3 band Active BMG control Preamp. The Neck is really comfortable and thin for lots of speed. Mine is See through Black and the Flame maple realy looks hot. this is my main bass and I love it so much I bought the new LTD B-5E last year which is a 5 string, and it Smoke too.

I had one problem with Electronics on the new Bass and ESP set me a brand new Pre amp, No Problems since. The price point is great and if they added $100.00 to it and added the case it would still be a steal. I will put this bass against any bass out there.

I play 70's - Now Rock and it fits Perfectly. I use a SWR Power amp and M2 Pre amp with either 1 4x10 cab or I stick a 1x15 under it for a full stack and it smokes. Great Lows and Crisp Highs with warm mids, what else can ou ask for. I think this bass has great versitility both on stage and in the Studio. I have no Dislikes with this.

I played this bass in the Store where I purchased it for about 10 minutes and fell for it quick!! I brought it home and adjusted it to my liking and man it is fast and clean. the finish is beautiful and tuff. I have no complaints

Reliability/Durability : 10
this is the perfect bass for playing Live, Stays in tune, I play Heavy Rotosound Strings, and I am a heavy finger player. She stays where she belongs! I changed the Strap Buttons to Strap Locks and they are solid. This is one Bass you can rely on just bring an extra battery just in case. and I play without a back up with this alot. I have had this bass 4 years and I adjust the neck every year if needed

I have dealt with ESP not for this bass but for my other bass and the took care of me quick and without question. the new bass was under warranty

Overall Rating : 10
I have been play 46 years and have own alot of different basses, Fender, Peavey, Bass Collection, Alembic and Warwick. and I would put this bass against any of them. I think it's tone can adjust to any bass tone from Fender to Alembic, and I believe it is the best bass for the Price

A 2005 model year, made in Indonesia. It's an excellent 4 string bass, 34" scale, neck through, flame maple top, 24 XJ frets. There is a volume and balance knob. Passive EMG HZ-35 pickups with an EMG 64 Active 3 band EQ (B,M,T), 3 knobs for the EQ also. It has an agathis body with a 5 piece maple and walnut neck. Mine is in transparant black, also comes in sunburst.

This bass came with standard ESP tuners, but I put them on par with Grover tuners. It has a string thru body/string thru bridge bridge. Also sports a double truss rod.

I play various types of metal, hardcore and thrash and ESP guitars and basses are perfect for it. With the balance knob you can go from a fat deep tone up to a much brighter warmer tone. I can use this bass for recording and for live playing. I put a extra heavy set of GHS Boomers on it (.115 top string) and they make the tone even fuller.

There's nothing I dislike about this instrument. If you want active pickups, then bump up to the next model.

This bass was professionaly set up from the dealer I purchased it from, so it got to me with a wonderfully low and noise-less action. After breaking it in some I've had to make some small adjustments, but nothing major. The fit is really nice, the flame maple top was matched really well and all the parts are tight. Now that I've played it for a few weeks, the action stays where I put it.

I bought this to be my main bass, something good live and in the studio. The tuners hold tune pretty well, much better than Fender machines, and the bridge is solid as a rock.

The finish is really beautiful, and the strap buttons seem solid, but I've got some strap locks that I'm going to put on it, you never know when it could fall otherwise.

I will gig with a backup, but not because I think the bass will fail, but because of string breaks.

Customer Support : No Opinion
One year manufacturer's warranty. Haven't ever dealt with ESP though.

Overall Rating : 10
If this bass was lost I'd kick myself and if it was stolen I'd hire a bounty hunter to get it back. I love that it comes stock with EMG's, has a gorgeous finish, fast smooth thin neck(but not so thin it's flimsy, I have big hands, but people with smaller hands would be comfortable to at least the 15th fret), and the black chrome hardware.

There are better basses out there, but nothing I played under $1000 US was even close to this bass and it was less than half the price.

There's nothing I hate about this bass. Everything is perfect for me, this is the best value for quality in basses for rock music, period.

I don't own one, but a friend does and I've been playing around with it a bit. It is a really nice bass with premium features.

From the Machine Heads down to the bridge, neck thru construction, HZ 35 active pick ups, 3-band EQ. GREAT price, the 5 string is around 50 buck more. Nice action, fit and finish is great. Quality Deal

I own a Fender Fretless, which I've had for over 20 years. I run DiMarzio DP149BK ultra jazz pick ups, and I am VERY satisfied with my sound and my instrument...

But, I have to attest that this ESP LTD B-254, is one of the nicest basses I've seen in a while. I try to stay abreast of developments and technology, and I have to attest that out of the box, price and quality... this is up there on the top of the list. A Korean Tobias may be an equal in value, but I would have to go toe to toe with one to develope that theory. Lots of sounds, clear active tones, 3 band EQ gives lots of options for tonal changes.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Great set up, nothing negative stands out. It seems like a lot of the hip-hop crowd use these. I seen several around B-254's and the 5 string model B-255.... so in my neck of the woods, they are making the rounds. I have yet to hear a bad one. Plus I've heard them pumped thru PA's, Carvin's, Ampegs and GK's and emulated representations. The sound has been great from all amps and waveforms.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Seems to.
The 4 or 5 ESP's I have played with are all front line basses. With lots of hours on them and no negative reactions from the users

I don't know if I would order one online or have a dealer order one. I tend to go with the dealer (especially if I know them) because I like to keep the business local and dealers tend to throw in set ups etc... plus it's nice to help the community. Our local guy is Winter Sound in Gloucester Virginia, great shop. It's nice to help support the local stores. They contribute more than you might imagine to the local scene. From chamber of commerce to the young and up coming student. There is NO substitute for local music stores who are comitted to their business.

40+ years, all kinds of stringed instruments. With a lot of time in on the Bass. I will purchase one of these, but am undecided about the 4 or the 5. Again, this is review is coming from a Fender Fretless player who is always looking around and has yet to really be impressed. In my opinion the quality, construction and appointments of this instrument along with the GREAT price make it one of the top values on the market today. A Solid deal.
