bass made in japan probably during the 70's
4 strings and passive electronics...

i play dub music with an old fender export amp and this bass is perfect for this style,
great bass frequencies, hot and powerfull ;and rich medium with fingers sound, a little
bit dirty but i don'like the clean and cold sound of the new bass...
in studio i separate the sound: compressing under 120hertz and a little reverb on the rest..with phaser or wahwah....

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
a beautifull instrument ,very well constructed, i never change anything on it and i think
all component are original...

Reliability/Durability : 10
no comment, this bass has 30 years, i bought it in 1990 and i don't know her history

i believe the guitar was made in japan it has 22 frets 4 strings and is of neck-thru body construction interesting timbers as well as laminating proceedures have been taken giving the bass alot of character.the guitar has 2 volume controls with one tone and has a P-BASS style pick-up for the neck and a JAZZ-BASS style for the bridge.the finish is natural lacqure finish. it resembles a precision bass shape yet still has its own unique shape. bridge is
made of brass along with saddles and the tuners are gold plated.
the neck is rosewood and maple construction and the skunk stripe
runs through the headstock and the body of the guitar.

iwanted a guitar for a jazz sound which i found the el maya suited
the sound i required. it has an amazing tone played acoustically
which drew me to the guitar. i am running it through a jansen 440
bass amplifier that has a warm sound through it. i feel it would be a good guitar for recording purposes i like its playability and feel

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
when i bought the guitar it was used so had to be set up for playing.the neck had a to concave bow in it which made most of the frets buzz so truss-rod adjustments where required.the guitar overall is in very good condition and the lacquer has aged to an amber tone.overall the fit and finish still apears excellent

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
i haven't had the bass for very long so havent had chance to use it for any gigs yet but the guitars looks old and is still going well.due to the fact the bass has passive electronics this guitar should definately be a reliable back-up for gigs.

Customer Support : No Opinion
i know nothing about the company so i assume they don't make guitars anymore no one i know can offer me any information on the guitar other than it sounds and looks great.

Overall Rating : 10
i have been playing for 15 years now guitar and 5 years bass.the salesperson knew very little on the guitar and possibly felt he was selling it to cheap. the person that traded it in had apparantley owned it a long time. i liked the price and the fact it was a neck-thru bass and it suprizingly appeared to sound and play alot better than any of the other basses i had around me.it is possibly the best bass i have ever played
