Features : 5
Not sure when this was made. Probably 70s-early 80s
Had 21 frets; have been removed and filled
2 passive volume controls for the two original pick-ups and one tone.
Maple bolt-on neck-black lacquer finish.
Exact copy of fender Jazz bass
rosewood fret-board w/cheap plastic fret markers I have removed and filled.

Sound : 10
I play jazz, blues, covers like the Dead and the Band. I wanted a fretless that would approximate the sound of an upright. After modifying this bass I found that sound. I purchased the bass from a local person on Craigslist. He had de-fretted it and it sounded awful. However, I really liked the feel of the neck and the tone from the pick-ups. I took the neck off, straightened it with the truss bar, filled the gaps from the frets, removed the fake mother-of-pearl inlay markers, filled them, put about ten coats of tung oil on the fret-board, and added nylon strings. Then I put it through a Hartke 2000 amp with the EQ high on the ends. It sounded incredible when I used it with my band. I sent out some recordings to friends and they asked when I had began using the upright.
Before setting up this guitar it would have gotten about a 3!

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
The action was awful when I bought it.
I did not have to touch the pick-ups.
Of course it had some rust and the pick-up covers were gone. This is not the fault of the bass , but the previous owner.
The tuners are serious and this thing doesn't go out of tune.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This thing is built like a Sherman tank. It is EXTREMELY HEAVY.
the hardware is all original.
The finish has lots of chips, but hey, it's old and cheap.
the strap button on the bottom came loose and now I use a screw.
The truss needs adjustment about once a year.
I have used it a my only bass for over a year. I have had no problems with the electronics. I don't even use a case for transport.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Yeah right

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing music for over 15 years, bass off and on for the last seven years. I played guitar before.
I love this bass. It is exactly the instrument I need. I am known to be hard on things and this thing can handle it. The tone is awesome for playing jazz. It goes from a warm acoustic, bottom-heavy tone to a dirty, growley tone.
Believe it or not, I tried a Spector Euro 4 LX for awhile before falling in love with this bass. While the action isn't as good, it better approximates an upright bass. I practice on a cheap upright and now I don't need to go buy a good one. This bass foots the bill. I probably would not suggest this bass to everyone. If it were stolen I would cry. Yet, it is so ugly that doubt anyone would want it:)
