I bought this bass in late 2001, so I assume it was made that same year. It doesn't have a lot in the way of features, but how many features do you need in a bass? It's a single pup with a volume and tone control. I'm an ex-drummer that now plays guitar and just wanted a bass to fool around on (I will also need a bass too for when I record my solo album, LOL) and this is a great bass for a guitar player, especially if you have small hands. Our bass player missed a night recently and I played a bit on his fretless P-Bass and I just can't reach everything on it, so this short scale is great for me. I kind of would like another pickup on it, but it's okay for what I use it for and at 200 clams, it's a steal. It's really a beautiful little bass. I got the cherry finish for that Jack Bruce vibe and that's how it sounds. The neck is nice but there is some fret buzz, but it's my understanding that's a problem with all short scale basses. I have a short scale Rickenbacker 320 guitar (John Lennon) and I have a lot of tuning problems with that sometimes, it's very temperamental. Bottom line here: If you want a cheap, well built bass that has a nice, but limited tone, this is your baby. The one thing that could be problematic is that I don't think they have a case to fit it (I could be wrong), so I got the gig bag. Oh yeah, the only real gripe I have with it is that it's really neck heavy, but since I play sitting down most of the time, it's no biggie. I don't really take it anywhere and I take care of all my stuff too, so the case thing not a huge problem for me either. This is really a very nice bass for the money if you ask me, and I guess you did.

Sound : 8
It sounds like Jack Bruce, and I think the guy in Free (Andy Fraser?) also played an EB bass, so think "All Right Now" and you know what this bass sounds like. There is a little clicking from the strings, and I guess I could raise the bridge, but I hate screwing with that stuff. I play in a band that does everything from the Stones to Dylan to the Ramones to Johnny Cash, so yeah, I guess it fits, even though I am not the bass player. Again, I just got it to have a bass to fool around on and I like the thumpy, bassy sound it has. I am not going to be ripping around the neck like Jaco, just your basic walking bass lines and that sort of thing. I use it with a little Ampeg BA-110 amp and it sounds okay.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The set-up was not bad. There is a little fret buzz and sometimes the strings click on the pup because the action is so low, but it's also one of those things you don't notice as much once it's plugged in. I have the action on all my guitars set just a tad above where the strings start to buzz and I never notice any problems when I'm amped. It seems to be a nice bass, and not just for the money. It's a nice bass, period, and the build quality on mine is really nice, especially the finish, which is beautiful.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
It seems like it would hold up under live playing, and all the hardware seems solid enough. The finish on mine is really very nice, but I baby my stuff too. Since I only play it for fun and don't gig with it or even take it anywhere, I'll give this section a "no opinion" and refer you to guys that do gig with it, but is does seem to be solid enough.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have no idea. This is my first Epiphone (though I just bought an Epi Goth Les Paul, and is that a cool guitar) and have not had to deal with them at all.

Overall Rating : 8
As I said before, I'm a guitar player/drummer that just wanted a bass to fool around on. My other gear is: Fender '62 US Vintage sunburst Strat, a Fender 50's Classic (MIM) Surf Green Strat, a Fender 50's Classic (MIM) Black Tele, a black Rickenbacker 320, an Epiphone Goth Les Paul, a Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb amp, a Fender Blues Jr amp, an Ampeg BA-100 bass amp, a TS-9 Tube Screamer, a Small Clone chorus and a Danelectro Slap Echo. I didn't look at a lot of other basses because I didn't want to shell out much more than the $200 I paid for this. I read the reviews here and most everyone seemed to think it was a nice bass, so I bought one and I like it a lot. I may get a Jazz bass one day, but this suits ms just fine for what I need it for. If it was stolen (how the hell can you lose a guitar?) I would buy another one in a heartbeat. I think this is also the part of the review where you have to say you would put up reward posters for it and then beat the living snot out of the guy who stole it when you catch him. Hopefully, it won't be a Shaolin master, Green Beret or a 7th degree black belt that steals it. I love the vintage Jack Bruce vibe and the sound. I love the neck. I don't hate anything about it, but I am not crazy about the neck heaviness. I wish it had another pup, but P-basses only have on pup too, correctomundo? I am really conflicted as to how to rate this. It's not quite a 10, but it is really a cool little bass that seems to be well built and has a nice look to it. A 9 also seems a bit too high and an 8 seems too low, but I'll go with another 8 since I can't give it an 8.5. I really enjoy these reviews and get some valuable info from them. I have bought most of my gear partially based on what these reviews have said. Reviews in guitar mags are great, but I want to hear what guys like you and me that have to work and save to buy these things think about gear, especially after we have had it a while. I am sure we have all gotten a piece of equipment we thought we just couldn't live without only to sour on it a few months later. Of course, the constant buying, selling and trading is all part of the fun, isn't it? All things considered, this is one hell of a nice little bass, and at $200, you can't go wrong. You don't get diddley frigging squat for $200 anymore. Good luck with whatever you buy, then play on.

New $209 Ebony bass. I'll leave the details to the reviews below. I bought this as a beginner bass for my son, so I think the features are perfect. I particularly like the triangled bridge design. The neck feels a little chunky, but I'm used to 6 string electrics. He likes the SG style, I played a Gibson EBO a long, long time ago. (I currently own several top end guitars and amps.)

One thing to point out, it's head heavy. For a new player it's a distraction and just one more thing to worry about. It's a common complaint with the SG style, but the bass is even more unbalanced.

Sound : 7
Seems OK running it through a SS Peavey KB amp. The stock strings aren't great, as new set will probably improve the response. It's a little muddy on the low end. Good enough to gig with at this level. I have no doubt this sidewinder pickup will sound fine through a quality bass amp. The pcikups don't seem adjustable, so I guess your stuck with what you get.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The set-up was poor, buzzed right out of the carton. But I've never seen a new guitar that was set up to my liking, so no big deal. It seems to be taking adjustments pretty well, I expect it will get there. Right now the action is a little higher than I'm satisifed with, but I give a new guitar lots of time to settle into a new set.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I would expect it to be extremely durable.

Overall Rating : 8
It's a close call whether to buy this bass new or opt for a used P or J bass or some equivalent used. The SG style is clearly "cool" and the bass osunds and plays like a decent bass. The headstock weight / unbalance of the instrument could be a definite negative.

Best suggestion is to try a couple, standing up, and see if it's comfortable. Even if I can't get the neck relief and bridge just where I'd like them to be the adjustability of the bridge assembly will allow it to be a pretty good player. Definately gig worthy.

Pretty good overall value.

the EB-0 I have was purchased brand new, 2002. it was made in indonesia of all places(i thought it to be a product of korea.)made with only 20 frets, i've found it to have amazing action. the laminant neck, however, my be drawback for some depending on how they hold the neck and how sweaty their palms get. the EB-0 has 30" scale neck, and while I think that suits a virtuoso well, some may find it to be on the imasculating side (no ofense to women.) it has only a sidewinder pickup which may be limiting, but also may prove to be quite the pfunktery little tool. this pickup provides for a volume pot and a tone pot.

Sound : 8
while I primaraly play in my high school jazz band in done many a sit in for my good friends "bad brains" like punk band, and boy i tell you what, I think the bass sounds greater than a million bucks. it just flows with the anema of jack bruce. I even think that it sounds like 'the whos' recordng of my genertion. It can be bright, punchy, and a bit boomy, but yet with the turn of a dial it can really growl. deapite my boasting it's not suited well a fellow primus fan. it's really a child of the 60's.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
i would say the only flaw in bass is that when you have the tone all the way up you're highly prone to feedback. although I don't mind the feedback all that much, i'm sure you could always repalce the metel pickup cover with a plastic one. but other than that, the tuning pegs are sturdy, the neck and body are made mahogony , fretboard is of rosewood, the hardware is all crome. and the pickguard is black.

Reliability/Durability : 7
the EB-0 is both and durable and relieable, however it does have a 13 degree angle neck which increases the headstock poping right off. So I would gig with a backup just incase.

30' short scale SG bass guitar. Big passive Sidewinder pickup at the neck position. Ebony finish. Chrome Schaller style tuners. Comes with a cheap little Epi soft gigbag. One volume, one tone. Simple, very lightweight package.

Sound : 10
Deep, clear, dark, punchy, growly... groovin'. I like it. It's a one-trick pony, but you can ride this pony all night. Like in other reviews, it's got that vintage Jack Bruce/Cream sound that I think is cool. I run it through an Ampeg B100R and my secret weapon eq box, and it slams!!!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Factory setup was OK, not great, intonation kinda stunk. But I adjusted it all out, and now, It's great. Everything was tight and clean. Excellent for a $209 bass.

Reliability/Durability : 8
I think this one will be fine for a long time to come. Pretty solid instrument.

Limited lifetime warranty. Pretty cool.

I've been playing 15 years. My primary bass is a 95 American PBass. This is a cool little bass that makes an excellent backup. No frills, but it's nice.

Don't need to repeat here, since it has been described below and they are all the same.

Sound : 8
As others have said, it's pretty limited in what it can do... but what it does, it does well. It has a very nice rich, warm tone. and the HB pickup is very quiet. The only way to get a sharper tone is to use a pick and/or play closer to the bridge. Like short scale basses tend to be, it's a little muddy on the E string - but not too bad. I use GHS short scale flat wounds, and they sound much better than the stock Epi strings. I'll bet a set of Pyramid flats would sound great on it, too. I expect that someone playing classic rock or country would find this to be a useful instrument.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Very nice - surprisingly so for such an inexpensive bass. I couldn't find a flaw anywhere. Tight, shiney, and well balanced.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Seems very solid.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Lifetime warranty, but I doubt I'll need to use it.

Overall Rating : 8
I've been playing guitar for over thirty years, with a little bit of bass here and there. I play this for fun at home through a Fender BXR 25. This is only the second inexpensive, Korean made instrument I've owned. I'm used to expensive gear and currently own 2 Ricks, a US Strat, a Gibson acoustic, and a Carvin AE. The quality of this bass seems comparable to the US made guitars. I like short scale, so it's a pretty small market. But, I don't see how you could go wrong on one of these for around $200.

Made in Korea Early 2001. These is only one model with the single big old pasive sidewinder pickup with one each tone and volume controls. A mahogony bolt on neck with rosewood fretboard and mahogony body. Tuners are Epiphone I presume, large, and solid. Had this bass six months now and have gigged and played it quite a bit - also have some other opinions here mixed in with my own. This is a short scale bass in the SG style. The finish is deep red stain which still allows the underlying mahogony to show through - a real plus in that most basses in this range are painted over who knows what. Bridge has a lot of adjustments, pickup has limited adjustment. Neck has adjustable truss rod. One pickup is a limitation here, but only if you want the treble pickup sound.

Sound : 8
This is the full basic warm sound - and that's it. It does this very well. I like this bass a lot for what is does, which is the Jack Bruce/Cream sound mentioned in other reviews. This is not for jazz popping. The sound is limited, but very good.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
What I don't like- fretboard is painted black over the rosewood, probably to cover some imperfections. Buzzing is an issue and I tried several to find one with limited buzz. Got it out but had to raise the action noticeably - however, since a short scale has pretty loose strings the playability is not noticeable affected.
What I like - Real wood, nice finish (a bit heavy on the laquer), good chrome. Next very straight along with everything else.

Action is great. I am a longtime SG guitar player and I must have a great action. It does this very well - I go back and forth between my two SGs now and just love to pick up the bass. I never have to work hard to play this bass.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Looks pretty solid. Six months and not a scratch on it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never used.

Overall Rating : 9
I have played guitar for 30 yrs - Bass for six months.
I would replace with the same bass if lost - in this price range it is excellent assuming the sound is what you want. Short scale is something of a personal choice - I think this is a great second instrument for a guitar player who does not want to transition to the long scale neck of most basses. I would like a second pickup - although I would probably not use it much. I think this is a top bass in its price range - score reflects what I think is expected for the price paid. I really wish it had a hard case that fit, though.

2001, made in Indonesia, short scale, cherry, single pickup, the usual! Bought a few months ago. Probably the best looking bass in its price range.

Sound : 7
I play through a WEM Dominator for practise, which only adds to its rich, mellow sound - I was quite impressed with the sound quality. One problem - it does suffer from fret buzz which is rather annoying...

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The bridge has been up and down more times than I care to remember to try to rid it of fret buzz, I'm loathed to start messing with the neck... I'm not totally happy with the setup as the strings are too high, so it's going to take a bit more work to get it just right. But I'm confident I can solve it, so it's not an neccessarily an inherent flaw!
There is one minor finish problem (either a glue or lacquer run) but only I can see it! Apart from that the bass is quite well made - no wobbly controls or gaps on mine. I've seen worse quality makes at higher prices!

Reliability/Durability : 9
It's certainly a very solid bass which makes it great for travel/gigs - I've bashed it a few times and it's still unscathed. It will take a lot of effort to scratch it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've got a year's warranty on it - so far so good...

Overall Rating : 8
This is my 3rd bass - it knocks spots off the Squire (what wouldn't?) but I still miss my Yamaha which was very reliable (until it disappeared...) The short scale makes it very comfortable to play (I'm only small!) but the fret buzz does spoil an otherwise pleasing product. If it was stolen I'd be mad as I'm just getting used to it's little faults, but I'd probably shop around next time (or just go for it and buy a Rick Jetglo or Alembic!)

it's a 2000 epiphone EB0. short scale neck, sg body, big pickup, cool looking bridge, actually the whole bass screams cool, a cool red color, i love how it looks, i play pretty regularly and pretty hard to. I love this bass

Sound : 7
I play hard rock in a band and punk on my own, it works really well. think p-bass with more sustain, the notes hold forever, handles effects ok, the sustain and punchy sound make distortion sound more like a fart, works well live, people always find the sg an awe-inspiring shape, and it's weight, pretty heavy, makes people think you're strong. over than it's inability to handle effects, the sound is top-notch, suprising for a 200 dollar bass

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
I have yet to do anything but change strings on it, oh yeah, and add a chain link strap ala zakk wylde, i use rotosound swing bass 66 strings, and it plays great, the tuners are starting to oxidize, but not badly, and the only problem i ever had was the jack falling into the cavity, i got a new washer and problem solved, so no biggie.

Reliability/Durability : 8
other than the jack, this bass takes a big beating, i drop it, bump it, smack it, and play the crap out of it, and it takes all i can dish out and wants more, i don't even take a backup bass, i completely trust my EB0 at any gig, i can't say the same for the guitarists though, with their 800 dollar les pauls and 200 dollar danos, they just don't know how to buy quality instruments like bassists

Customer Support : No Opinion
never dealy with them

Overall Rating : 8
great bass for it's price, a great bass to start on, i know my only option for upgrade is an eb-3 or eb-z or eb-5, because these basses are top notch. they take a beating and keep wanting more, and look good all the time, sound great, and all the notes it produces have a authority about them that says, "don't screw with me, i'll kick your @$$" I love this bass

It *was* verynice and punchy... but see below for the full story......

See below... though i must say, the cherry finish is stunning.

I'd just like to say this; for three months, i've lvoed this bass. The look and the sound are both brilliant. However, I've noticed recently that the notes are changing pitch noticably when I hit them and let them ring; a strange pitch drop-off. i thought it must be the strings gettingo ld, so I bought some new ones; I've had them on a few days, and THE WHOLE OF THE BRIDGE SUDDENLY CAME LOOSE FROM THE BODY TODAY!!!! I've never seen anything like it!!! The bridge is secured to the body with three screws which allow you to adjust the aqction, but they aren't even glued in place; consequently, the whole unit has been simply pulled out of the body by the string tension. To be quite frank, I'm very disappointed; this must be Epiphone's poor reputation for build quality rearing its ugly head again.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No idea. From what i've heard, it's noit really worth me enquiring.....

Overall Rating : 1
I love it.... but i'm afraid that the bridge falling off is a pretty serious matter. okay, it's a cheap bass, but surely not *that* cheap???
