Firstly, I'd just like to say my EB0 is pretty unique; i've had it converted to left-hand, as Epiphone and Gibson seem to neglect lefties who want their basses! The bass features a short-scale neck, single large humbucker and the most gorgeous, gorgeous cherry red finish ever. This guitar looks like it's worth about 10 times the amount I paid! The action is good and of course with the short scale you can whizz up and down the neck with the greatest of ease.
Sound

Obviously the sonic/tonal range is pretty limited, with just one pickup and two knobs (volume, tone), but what this bass does it does very well. My bass teacher commented on how punchy and powerful this instrument is when I palyed it to him, and I must agree; this sounds better than a lot of other basses i've palyed that were more than twice the price. It's a very distinctive sound, and i've found it pretty much perfect for my style (punky, alternative rock). It cuts through the mix really well with its warm, powerful sound.

Well, I had mine professionally set up when I got it converted to lefty, so the set-up was pretty much tip-top. As for finish, as already stated this is a BEAUTIFUL piece of kit. Lovely shape, lovely colour, the fact that the cherry colour continues up the neck as with most Gibsons is a lovely touch, and the headstock pearl inlays look very professional. Perfect!

Never gigged it yet, but no probs so far. i'm always very careful with my kit anyway, so I don't forsee it ever failing me. Plus it's an *SG*, so by nature it's a solid piece of kit (c:

Well, I've got a P-Bass too, which cost a lot more and as far as i'm concerned isn't as good as this!!! The Epiphone scores over the Fender on looks, sound, playability and overall coolness and i love it to bits. I wish Gibson did lefties of the Gibson SG-Z, I'd go out and get one tomorrow!

Made in Korea
30 inch scale, 4 string
Mahogany body
single humbucker pickup at the neck
passive tone and volume conyrols
red translucent (not the transparent red on some EB-3)
body style is like the old SG basses
rosewood (narrow) fingerboard with 20 frets
No fancy gizmos, but the features are better than average today and much much better than the features of the last import bass I had 10 years ago...
Sound

I bought the bass to learn to play, mostly blues. A bass playing friend recommended it. It has a wonderful rich dark sound. Good sustain. Good even tone across the entire range of the instrument. No wolfe tones or dead spots. With only the one pick up and a limited effectiveness of the single tone control, the tonal variety is somewhat limited. To some extent this can be made up for with EQ settings and special effects if you feel the need to go down that path. I still like it best with the EQ flat and no special effects.

The bass was well set up when I got it. I don't know if the store had to tweak anything or not. Fit and finish is quite good. The fret work is much much better than the import bass I had 10 years ago! The tuners are obviously not the most expensive, but they do the job effectively. There are no obvious flaws. Again, not a mega buck custom job but still better than most of the stuff on the shop wall to compair it against until you get up over 3 or 4 times the price.

I haven't had the bass long enough to reall give a rating here. The hardware seems good and solid if not fancy or "glitzy". No adjustments of any type have been needed yet. This is a simple, solid bass. I would expect it to be very reliable.

It coms with a warrenty, but I haven't had any need to try to exercise it... No repairs or adjustments have been needed.

This bass' strength is "playability". The bass just plays great. Double stop, chords, finger style techniques, it all works well. It looks like Epiphone is marketing this as a "beginner's" or student bass. They certainly have it priced thay way, and they may be right. This just might be the best beginner/student bass on the market today. But there is a lot more to it. After I bought it I took to a friend to check out and ask him to try it in a live playing situation so I could hear how it sounded. He ended up playing it for the entire evening. It plays that well. Someday I may want to add a bridge pickup (I'm a bit of a "hacker"...), but then again maybe not. Sometimes simplest is best, all the gadgets and gizmos distract from just playing the music.

It was made in the Korea, but "set-up" in the US, i'm not sure what year though...it has 20 frets and 4 strings...um yeah...volume and tone are the only controls given..1 sidewinder humbucker pick up at neck...the body and neck are both mad of mahogany...the finish is cherry red...the body style is SG...its not a string thought body but 1 piece bridge and tail piece...non locking tunner..30inch scale...the strings are very close together with also means that the neck is very skinny...i have an epiphone gig bag,it holds my bass when i'm traveling.

It suits my music style fine i like playing mostly punk and ska bass lines which are mostley very easy, and i am a beginer so they suit me just fine...unfortunally do to finacial reasons i am currently using a guitar amp so i can't get a clear read on what it would really sound like but it works just so long as it makes some noise when i hit the strings...it sounds more dark and warm cause i'm using a guitar amp i'm sure it would sound much richer on a real bass amp...i like this bass it is good for a beginer, isn't that big and fits me fine.

Well the bass wasn't put together that great there are lots of gaps in the neck and it isn't that great but the actions are just right...pretty good i guess i never fooled around with them...it was slightly misaligned but it doesn't really affect the sound, other than that it is a pretty sturdy bass.

This is a Korean made copy of Gibson's famous EB-0 SG style bass. Mahogany body, I think; rosewood fretboard; small scale fretboard; three bolt neck; one humbucker at the neck; one volume and one tone. Very simple, yet effective.
Sound
:8
The sound of this bass is very deep and warm. Not so versitile, though the tone control will get you from deep to deeper. Not a tinny or harsh sound at all. As others have said, the sound is very similar to that Jack Bruce/Cream sound. If you want that deep, soft tone, this'll do it. If you want brassy funk, pick something else.
Action, Fit, & Finish

The factory set-up kinda sucked; there was heavy fret-buzz. After raising the action a bit all was fine. Surprisingly, for the money, this is a beautiful guitar; the finish is the standard SG heritage cherry, but the grain below it is gorgeous. No design flaws really, though the headstock is angled a bit to one side; it made me think the neck was misaligned, but after doing numerous intonations it seems okay. I guess the wood up there is literally bent a bit. Still sounds fine.

Bought this bass specifically for gigging, and its held up well. I feel like I could throw this bass around and other things/people'd get hurt, not the bass. Thought the neck joint is only 3 bolts, it seems sturdy. I have gigged this with no backup. It's really light, but pretty damn solid.

I've been playing for 10 years now, mostly 6-string. Started playing bass with a side band about 2 years ago and decided to learn it really, not just be the guitar player playing bass. The bass I inherited was a monster; heavy, no tone, never stayed in tune. I bought this EB-0 out of necessity, a bit on impulse, a day before a gig. While I'm not so down with the SG body (it doesn't fit stylistically with me or the music) the tone was very impressive. And as I am a guitar player, the short-scale neck was a huge plus. I've had no complaints with this thing - it stays in tune, sounds smooth, doesn't kill my neck during a gig, and is easy to play. As it isn't so versitile, I do intend to buy another bass at some time, but for the money, this is hard to beat.

This is a 1999 Korean handmade shortscale 4string bass. It is a reissue of Gibsons original EB-0 that was made in the 60s. The body is a heritage cherry mahogany SG style body. It has chrome hardware (mammoth neck humbucker, 3 point bridge, wide leaf tuners) and a rosewood fretboard with dot inlays. Fairly simple, only a voulme and tone pot. Neck is finished mahogany, fairly thin, and bolt on. Yes, simplicity is good.

This bass is so different as far as the sound goes, you cant judge it at all. I love the sound. Its deep, bassy, smooth, warm, and fat, and not brittle, snappy, punchy, bright, or cold. The neck humbucker is so deep sometimes low Es fade off into muddiness, but still, for that Jack Bruce vibe, Those Were The Days. This bass drips Cream. Again, its not very versatile, but thats not why I bought it. A one trick bass that does its one trick very well.

The guitar is built well, very beautiful (what can I say? its gorgeous!) and comfortable, but I have a few problems. The setup was decent from the factory except for some agitating minor fret buzz. Then I, being a fool, threw on flatwounds with no regard to having it set up for them. Intonation was wacked, playability was gone, and I paid 60 bucks to get it set up professionally with roundwounds again. Still, theres fret buzz. But for a bass this cheap, WHO CARES?

Been playing 7 years, this is my second bass. I own 3 other 6 strings, including a Gibson LP studio. Its a great bass for the money if you like the look or the tone. You should probably get another more versatile bass too. If someone stole it I would steal their blood, sell it at a donor clinic, and use the money to buy an Epi EB-3.

1999 model hand made Korean reissue of the famous shortscale Gibson EB-0 of the sixties. Its a SG body style with a great cherry red finish. Mahogany construction; really beautiful woodgrain. Its a looker, thats for sure. It has wide leaf tuners, a three point bridge, rosewood fretboard with dots, and a monster neck humbucker. It has a tone pot and a volume pot.

DEEP. This bass is not versatile, but still, its got a smooth full fat vintage tone that I like. This bass just drips Cream. I feel like Jack Bruce everytime I strap it on. It does have the clear punch or snap I would get from modern basses or a Fender, so I'll need to get another bass to stay versatile. But for the Bruce style, THIS IS IT.

Been playing for 7 years, love this bass, have lots of 6 strings, this is my second bass. The first was an Epi PBass copy.
If someone stole this bass I would gut them and sell their blood to blood donation offices and use the money to buy another one.
Could use a treble pickup, but they make an EB3.
