It suits my style of music choice pretty good. I am currently using a Fender Bassman 20 tube amp made in 1982 but also use a Sansui solid state Au-999 amp made in 1970. It has an ok sound. Dark and warm. I like it but it is an old guitar and constantly needs to be retuned, The neck is a little too straight so it is harder to play a perfect note

it is a very good looking guitar, with very nice red maple wood. It has a few shorts in the tuning resulting in a scratchy sound when you turn the dials

This bass is not recomended for much playing, but it will last. The finish is definetely going to stay. The strap buttons are solid, and the guitar is very dependable. The neck constantly needs adjustment. I would use it in a gig for sure, but would have to readjust the neck quite often

I have been playing for a few years and also own a Bassman 20, and a Sansui Au-999. If it were stolen or lost i would definetely buy something else. I love the way it looks, but hate how hard it is to play. My favorite feature is definetely the body.

This new 2004 model Epiphone bass is a 24 fret solid Ash body 4 string electric made in China. Dim Sum. It has a maple neck with a rose wood finger board (Gibson sure loves rosewood). It's a double humbucker design in a soap box style. The pick ups are stock Epiphone and don't have a great deal of output. The bridge and hardware are black and the bridge is bolted to the body via two screws. Strings run through the bridge only. It has two volume knobs and one shared tone knob. It didn't come with a case or gig bag or book. You're just supposed to buy it and tie it around your waist to get it home. The neck seems average for a bass. Not overly wide and thick but a hand full none the less.

Well the sound is not spectacular but then stock Epi pickups rarely are. There isn't a lot of high end clarity or high end at all for that matter. I would defintely suggest hot rodding the pickups with some after market ones. For a beginner though it gives all the low end thunk that you'd expect to hear from a bass. For the price you can't complain. I'd say it's mainly suitable for rock the way it sounds stock. A better bridge pick up would allow this bass more versatility. I think it would do fine for jazz or phunk.

Epiphone seems to have the transparent paint finishes down to a perfect science. This base has the transparent black finish and it's really quite nice. No flaws in the paint or finish. There is a bit of a rattle somewhere in the body of the bass when certain notes are played but through an amp it's not noticeable. The neck pick up had a loose screw but that took nothing to tighten. The neck is firmly bolted to the body and upper fret access is still quite good. The knobs and jack were all tight. The action is pretty low for a bass, so there is some fret buzz. I suspect that may be also related to the absolute straightness of the neck. It's needs a little relief. After a good set up though I firmly belive that this bass for the low price tag will play quite well. It isn't bad now it's about perfect for a novice which is who is playing this bass. The frets were well finished and have no sharp edges along the edge of the neck. Amazing for a $300 dollar bass. The balance between neck and body is also excellent which can be an Epi issue.

Can't say how reliable it is as we've not had it long. I honestly see no reason why it wouldn't be gig worthy, it's not a flimsy thing. Stock pick ups need to go.

Well this is my first time in the bass world but I have been playing guitar for 9 years so I've got a good understanding of what's a decent guitar and what's not. For the price tag it's definetely a nice piece instrument. Just upgrade the pick ups and change the strings and this bass could be very versatile, play nice and look good. For a novice it's a Rolls Royce for a pro it's a Honda civic. With a few mods it could be a fast Honda civic. I don't regret the decsion to buy it. It's of same quality and build as any Yamaha or Fender in the same price range and it looks better.
