this is where this bass blows me away the sound is incredible, this beast blows away every other bass i've ever played yes even high end fenders. I love the growl i get out of playing on the bridge pickup but the neck pickup is great for a cleaner smoother tone. The sustain is incredible i could only imagine what it would be like if it was a string-through body, the fact that its all one piece plays a huge part in the sustain. Tons of variety to this bass i play in my own band and at church and youth group all the time and this bass is perfect for everything that i play from hard rock to slow songs this bass has it all.

I got the bass from musicians friend not sure who to give the credit of the setup to but i guess i was lucky (having ordered it online) and got a great setup and a quality insturment. Intonation was amazing setup couldnt have been better no damage whatsoever this bass is flawless. my only complaint about this bass is the fact that the strap buttons are tiny i mean rediculously tiny smaller than most that i've seen on guitars and i had to buy a new strap just to keep this thing from falling down. Other than the button quality i had a little problem w/ a screw that was up a lil too far and cut my finger but who dosent have 2 seconds and a screwdriver

this bass is amazing for live paying i baby my basses so i know it will last this beast is heavy much more so than any bass i've ever played but that just gives me a feeling of security playing it. i dont swing my basses around or risk damaging them my only fear would be the fact that its a one piece and if u break the neck your done for but anyone with a little self control could prevent that. i pretty much always have the possibility of a backup bass but unless this bass is run over by a tank i dont think i'll need one it holds a tune very well and outplays everything i've ever played. i use this bass at least 3-4 times a week for about 2 hours each time not to mention practices so its gotten alot of use and isnt showing any wear at all. I definitely trust this bass and look forward to having it for a very long time

to be honest i was terrified after having read so many reviews and then going blindly and buying a bass online especially a model i had never been able to play, i was not dissapointed. Even though this turned out to be my dream bass i would suggest no one buy any insturment without having played the one they intend to buy you could really be dissapointed or get a terrible insurment.

Made in Korea, 2000 limited edition 5 string. HUGE stop tailpiece bridge, basic two pickup-two volume-one tone setup with the addition of a tone sweep chicken head selector. Great sounding passive Dual Rail soapbar pickups. Body is mahogany with flame maple top in a sunburst style finish. Speaking of the finish...WELL DONE! I found only one minor flaw on the entire top and Im sure nobody else would even notice unless I pointed it out. The neck is very wide and deep....very much like what they called the old precision necks...."Louisville Slugger" its that wide and even more so because of the fifth string. Standard import style tuners that feel very durable in hand. Rosewood neck thats nicely finished along with jumbo frets, kerfs filled and polished and all set solidly. Im pleased with the features offered with this model and though there are some small imperfections, for the money they are to be expected. I was pleasently surprised with the quality of the inlays both on the fretboard and headstock....very nicely done!

I play mostly punk/alternative and look for this type of sound in a bass. Ive tried active setups but have been less than impressed with the limitations of uneven tonal boundries and excessive noise and have switched back to passive basses for just those reasons. I use a GK rig with two custom built 1X15 cabs and this bass has all the tonal options I need. Im not a high end junkie as I tend to stay in the lower frequencies with just a touch of mids and tweeters but its nice to know its there if I want it. The tone sweep is "in theory" a cool thing but to be honest I only use a couple of the settings because some of them are either too compressed or too mid-rangey for my tastes. This bass is ultra quiet both on stage and in studio and with the exception of having to tighten EVERYTHING down including all the pots, output connection, and tuning peg retaining nuts, I really havnt had to alter anything in order to maintain noisefree operation. One thing I do like is the weight...very heavy. I know that for many its a hindrance but for me it adds stability.

I had to set it up to suit my needs but from the store it had a good basic setup that would be decent action for most only needing minor changes. Like I said before, it has a heavy duty tail piece and bridge so I can foresee no problems with that in the future but I would suggest that anyone who gets one do as I did and tighten all removable and adjustable features down before playing because many of the componants that CAN work loose, DID work loose.

This bass came with good hardware and overall finish so I can see no problems on the horizon any time soon. Check the trussrod and neck bow often....the first week I had it the neck tended to re-bow while adjusting to new string tension but after it settled in it was fine and I have had no problems keeping it ramrod straight......I personally adjust for string height at the bridge and thats the way I like the neck. I was also happy with the cavity shielding. It was applied evenly and covered the entire cavity up to the edges with no bare spots. I replaced the strap buttons with leather straplocks as soon as I got it home. As heavy as this beast is one can only imagine the feeling of it falling on your toes. Better safe than sorry.

I purchased mine from a Sam Ash in Cleveland and they were very helpful with my initial complaints. The first one I bought on a saturday had a stripped trussrod so I took it back on monday. I had them drag another 7 or 8 out so I could choose my own replacement and when I picked it I was off. About a mile from the store I noticed that the fretboard was pulling away from the neck up around the headstock and I made a beeline straight back. Again I had no trouble picking out a replacement for the replacement. The one I ended up with has been just great and Im happy to report I havnt had to make another trip back. As for Epiphone itself, couldnt say really as Ive never had to deal with them directly. It would have been nice though if my original choice worked properly because it had the most beautiful black with gray/silver flame top. It makes me mad to think about having to trade it in......FOR SOMETHING THAT WORKED PROPERLY! Sorry, just blowing off steam. Sam Ash was just great throughout the whole ordeal.

Ive been playing over 20 years and at this point I dont want to have to spend tons of dough for a good sounding bass. Im very aggressive on stage and the last thing I need is to have a $2000.00 guitar damaged from my running around/thrashing about foolishness. Id rather spend the same money on 3 "good" basses and not be heartsick about little nicks and scratches. I have a GK rig, regular 6 string Guild Tele, Fender Jazz, and Jazz special, as well as a few other assorted backup 4 and 5 string basses. I bought the Epiphone EB-35, 5 string "SG" bass last year and have nothing but praise for it so when I saw this Les Paul model offered as a 5 string, I decided to give it a go if for no other reason than to have a set of "classic" models as 5 strings. Ive read the other reviews of this model bass and while I respect their opinions, I must disagree with their conclusions. Ive found that this bass plays well....with a little setup tweek, sounds good enough for recordings and gigging, and overall is just a quality instrument. Maybe its just me but I dont feel shame at not playing the Ken Smith's, Sadowsky's, or Musicman's of the world as some might. If this were lost or stolen first I would soil myself then buy a new one. I do wish it came with a hardshell case though because I tried a couple different case models and because of the depth of the body and height of the bridge, none that Ive tried even came close to fitting. Figuring "price vs quality" I would say this was a great deal and I am looking foward to someday picking up an Epiphone 5 string Thunderbird bass....that is if they ever offer one.
