Simple P Bass. Volume Tone and plug. Thats what its for and thats what it does. So ITs hard to rate this category.

Sound : 10
Great tone. We all know what a P bass should sound like and this does the job far better than any P bass made in the last decade for sure.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Perfect. I was pleasantly surprised ant Fenders craftmanship on this one. Fender has been making crap lately but this model really is excellent. The neck is solid and the action. etc was perfect from the store. A great playing bass. Finsish is also well done. THe woods are also impressive. Solid ash body and hard maple neck. Nice looking and great playing.

Reliability/Durability : 10
THis is a rugged performer thats why people choose P basses. Comes with strap locks stock. Good idea.

I've owned a lot of instruments and this bass is the best Fender I've seen in over 10 years. I have a collection of 11 pro guitars and basses and this is one of my best peices. IF it was stolen I couldnt buy another one as they only made 450 of these. I think they will hold value well because of that. I've alreasy has 2 people offer me my purchase price to buy it. THats a good sign.

If you are looking for features don't look here. The 50th Anniversary P-Bass is just a sweet execution of the instrument that started it all. I had never been a P-Bass player but the limited addition status made this a "had to have" for me. I am going through a back to bassics stage and this bass fits me well, and I don't have to worry about the battery. Passive, simple, beautiful - now that is all the features I need.

Sound : 10
I have always played a Jazz and still have one (American Deluxe active etc...). Up until now I just did not get what all the fuss was over the Precision. Alone this bass sounds basic and adequate. However, put the 50th Anniv. P-Bass in the mix with a hard driving band and I begin to get it. The strong bottom end and tone just fit so well with a hard driving guitar dominated band. Now I get it, the precision bass is designed to be a part of an ensemble providing the massive bottom end that just is not there when I play the Jazz. I started out just using the 50th Anniv. P Bass occasionaly on gigs. Well the other members of the band noticed right a way and now it is my main bass with the Jazz being used about 20% of the time. So for an evaluation of sound I will have to say it can't be beat in the mix. I finally get what all the fuss about P-basses is. In particular the 50th Anniv with a good set of strings is plenty bright with lots of mid punch and massive bottom end. I play through a SWR Bass 750 with a Goliath II 4-10 bottom. Have played it through lesser rigs and it still delivers but through the SWR it really drives the band. Despite the basic set up and simplicity it will produce a good pallet of sounds, as they say it is all in the hands and this bass will cover most of what I play which is Classic Rock with a little modern mixed in (even the new bands are populated with P-basses).

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The 50th Anniv is a step above the regular American P-Bass on fit and finnish. It is a limited addition piece, so I expect a little more care went into build and set up. I got this factory sealed in the box (what a treat!!!). Right out of the box it was perfect. No runs, no drips, no error's just drop dead gorgeous. The only shortcoming may be the very basic tone and volume knobs, but that is the look of the originals so I guess they used these to keep things authentic.

Reliability/Durability : 10
To soon to tell, but I don't know what could ever go wrong with this instrument. It is as solid as a rock, almost too pretty to gig with but what a shame to put it on display only, it was born to rock so it is now gigging (happily) on a regular basis. I would expect my great grand children could still be using this years from now with no problems. I will NEVER sell this.

Have not had to use Fender Customer Support. I have owned Fender guitars, basses and amps for 20+ years. I never have had to call them. If I do have to call them I hear they are OK.

Overall Rating : 10
If this one got stolen, I would get another P-Bass, preferrably this butterscotch maple beauty if available(50th Anniv). I am now a P-Bass believer and I believe I will always need one in the stable. If you have not played one of these try it but don't be surprised if you don't get it at first. Put it in the mix of a band and the light will come on - now that is what I have been missing! For you spouses out there who are looking for a great gift for your bass playing significant other - this would be a gift that would be very well received. They are alittle more pricey than the basic American but the case and other goodies make it a good value. I hear only 4-500 were made so 50th Anniv may have some future collectable value. Regardless it is a great player with great looks!

Features : 10
As the previous reviewer said, the 50th Anniversary Precision Bass is essentially an American Series P-Bass, but one with tasty features and a higher level of craftsmanship that set it apart. Mine has a one-piece, very lightweight ash body. It's a well-balanced bass with a very fine maple neck with maple fretboard. It appears that the maple board is a separate piece that's glued to the neck. Fender's publicity photos, which portray it as a plain-jane, natural-finish plank, don't come close to doing it justice: It has a gorgeous butterscotch finish akin to the '52 Telecaster's, and an anodized metal (as opposed to bakelite) black pickguard. This impressive package is topped off with a Fender/G&G plush-lined tweed case. A Precision Bass is by definition a no-frills instrument, but this has all the features you'd want in a P-Bass.

I play rootsy stuff and am very fond of P-Basses. The 50th Anniversary model definitely suits my style. It's brighter than my '95 American Standard with rosewood board, which is to be expected since I string the '95 with flatwounds. The 50th still has that classic tone, round and fat, but with plenty of definition. It wouldn't be the bass for somebody looking for a more modern tone, but it can't be beat for meat-and-potatoes players like moi. It's pretty quiet, too. I haven't recorded it, so I can't speak to how well it works in the studio, but have no reason to think it wouldn't be fine.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The set-up was fine, but I can't say if this is the work of the Fender factory or the dealer. I've found no defects. The finish is flawless, the neck joint is tight and everything feels solid. Better attention to detail than your average American Series piece. The craftsmanship reminds me of a good G&L, which is certainly meant as a compliment to both manufacturers.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This bass is still quite new, but if I had to gaze into my crystal ball, I'd say it's built to last. Again, it feels very solid, and made with quality materials. I'm looking forward to playing it live a lot, in part because it's so comfortably lightweight, considerably lighter than the '95 that's been my main live bass.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've never dealt with Fender directly, so I can't offer an opinion.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I've been a player since 1969, and I have a few other P-Basses, each of which has its own character and charms. Because I own the others, I had no plans to get another one and was underwhelmed by Fender's publicity on this anniversary model. (I really wanted the '51 Custom Shop reissue, but it was too rich for my blood.) That all changed when I saw it, picked it up and played it in the store! Basses can come and go, but this one's a keeper.

2001 50th Anniversay Model fender Precision. This is essentially a limited edition American Series bass. All of the features and specifications of the normal American Series Precision except with a sweet Butterscotch finish to simulate the finish of the original P Bass! Ash body with a maple neck and fingerboard. Standard Passive pickup, tuners, frets etc. Nothing new here, but all done extremely well. In my opinion there is no reason to have anything more than one pickup, one volume knob and one tone knob.

Sound : 10
It's a P Bass so it does the P Bass thing and it does it well!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Perfect setup, finish, etc. straight from the factory. Here's the deal, I think Fender is rather hit or miss with how their stuff comes from the factory. This was part of a limited run (only around 450 were made at a rate of 8 a day) so I think that they put alot more work into these paticular basses. This was the nicest P Bass I have put my hands on in a long time. (That were made in the last two decades that is)

Reliability/Durability : 9
Everything seems great with this except the tone and volume knobs. Many people have said this and I whole-heartedly agree. These things are cheap and crappy and have no business being on a bass in this price range. The tuners are much better than they used to be which is good and of course everyting else is rock solid. Of course I would take a backup to a show because I am a professional and leave nothing up to chance. I don't think I will ever have to use it, but I keep it there anyway.

This has a limited lifetime warrenty. That probably doesn't mean a thing. I've never had to deal with them in regards to any other Fender product I have which is a good thing because from what I understand they suck!

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for awhile and I have owned many a P Bass. This is the best model I've seen made in awhile and that's why I chose to get this one.
