I play in an emo-band but I like to play alot of styles. It has the jazz growl but you can get any sound out of it. The single coils are a bit noisy with the volume wide open but it's not annoying.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The factory set-up was almost perfect. Action was great. Finish was perfect, beautiful sunburst. Everything else was fine.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I have this for just a few months now but Fenders are overall good quality. This one is not different and I think it will go for a long long time. I would use it without a backup but I always have one.

I've been playing for a few years now. I also own a Epiphone T-Bird IV and I had an Ibanez SR 400 but i sold that one.
It's not an American Jazz but it is definitely better than the Standard MIM Jazz. Alder in stead of Poplar, better pups, ... for a great price. Everyting was fine when I got it and it still is ... it's definitely a keeper. The stock strings were pretty good but i'm going to replace them soon.
Overall: Great quality for a great price!

I play in a 60's cover band, but also enjoy playing blues and jazz.
The controls are very easy to use and you can get just about any tone you want by varying pickup volumes and adjusting the tone knob.

The bass is quiet, but I rarely run instrument volume knobs wide open.

Classic Jazz Bass growl, low end, and punch with lots of volume.

The latitude of control with only 2 volume knobs and one tone knob is quite impressive.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Action was too high from the factory, but a neck and bridge adjustment remedied very quickly. I'll probably dress the fret edges just for added playing comfort. Overall, very good quality.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This bass successfully captures many of the qualities of a vintage Jazz Bass for a very reasonable price. Jazz Basses are absolute trucks and I expect this one to be no different. Hardware is good quality standard Fender. I will probably replace the strap buttons with locking ones just for safety. I would rely on this bass without a backup.

I've been a bass player for 30+ years. Current bass stable:
- 1964 Hofner 500/1 Beatle Bass
- 1965 Gibson EBO
- Conklin GT4 Groove Tool
- DeArmond Ashbory
- Yamaha BBN4 fretless
- SWR 350 amp
- Ampeg SVP Pro Pre-amp
- DBX 266XL Compressor/Limiter
- SWR Goliath II Jr.
- SWR Workingman's 1x15
- Ampeg B-15

This bass isn't a $2000+ relic, but it's awfully hard to beat for the $. Extremely solid, good looking and certainly has that vintage feel.

The materials, workmanship and finish are all quite good. With a little set up tweaking on the neck and brige, it plays almost as well and is almost as comfortable as my old '71 Jazz Bass was (God bless her wherever she is). Loud and punchy - lots of instantly recognizable Jazz growl. I'm going to sand the back of the neck down for a bit more comfortable/lived in feel, and I do wish Fender finished it with nitro instead of polyurethane so it would age gracefully. I'll probably add the chrome ashtray and middle pickup covers in the future for a complete vintage look. The Fender strings will have to go. A set of DR high beams should make this beast positively howl.

My caveat: Any manufacturer can and does have variations in quality and workmanship from instrument to instrument. I would recommend spending enough time with any instrument to make sure it meets all expectations. I love this bass and can't say enough good things about it especially for the money, but your mileage may vary.
