I have a '99 American Jazz Bass Deluxe, made in Corona, sunburst (color code 00), alder body, "Noiseless" pickups, active electronics, (greenish)white pickguard, graphite reinforced maple neck, 22 frets on a rosewood fretboard, Fender/Schaller lightweight tuners. It came with a Fender black tolex deluxe case (I really wonder about this. Don't they usually come with hadshell cases?), included were: Fender leather strap, Schaller straplocks, cloth, truss wrench, cord. It was (factory) equipped with Fender 7250 strings (0.45-1.05).

I am originally a guitar player, but always had interest in playing bass. I have played other basses before, an Ibanez SR-800 and a Gibson Q-80. When I considered playing as bass player in several bands, I already planned to buy a Fender Deluxe (MusicMan was too expensive, and I love Fenders). But I still didn't know which one to by, P or J? I took the J. I play it through a Trace Elliot GP7SM. Sure, at first I made some mistakes such as boost treble and bass on the amp's graphic EQ, but now I have turned off the EQ, and only work with the bass' EQ. I think this bass is fit in all styles, nice to play finger-style, slap and with pick, this one is good for funk, jazz, rock... everything. I also like to play higher notes on it. To me, the neck is a dream to play on (though I am a guitar player I like P-Bass necks as well), I can imagine that the fretless version could be nice for Jaco stuff. It is definitely the right bass for smooth stuff, I also love to play rock and funk on it. But be sure, you use the right strings for it, I mistakenly used Fender 7150's on it, wasn't a good match.

After playing it for one year now the finish still is nice and clean (except for some fretwear on the E-string, and the "Noiseless" logo on the pickup covers disappeared already). I use string-through-body only, but it is possible to string it on top of the bridge. Others said it already, this bass is LIGHT! Everything still works fine on this one. I played this without backup so far, I plan to buy HR P-Bass and a 5-string J-Bass, but this one will always be my #1.

This is a bass I totally enjoy. If it was stolen, I'd defintely would get another (though eventually with ash body and maple fretboard). Sure, I also tested a US P-Deluxe, and it HAD more bottom which I liked, but to me the J was a little better. A pity only custom shop intstruments have neck binding and block inlays, I like that look.

The neck feels great in your hand. The finsh is beautiful and the abalone inlays in the neck are great. I had to adjust the string height and the front pickup height(both to low) Otherwise, this bass is perfect

American made, active new design 'noise free' jazz pickups. Stacknob config, blue fotoflame, mape neck with dot inlays, mother of toilet seat pickguard. String thru.

This thing is fatter than a can o' Crisco on a rhino's hinny. Very defined tone that makes the whole band sound a lot better than they really are. The blend of pickups gets a range of sound from classic P to a great slap n growl. Even get a great ripoff of a early 70's blockneck.

A corvette should be lucky enough to have a finish like this. Blue foto flame with metallic flake to top off the edges. Someone in AZ is smokin' the good stuff. I bought it used, so the guy knew what he was doing setup wise. Thing plays itself, makes me feel like I'm not earning my pay. The neck thru gives a loose enough feel to be really fast, but the tone is still very well defined.

Stays in tune really well, so that indicates to me that it is really solid. It's a 97 model so we've got another five years or so to see how it holds up when the wood starts drying out.

Been playing bass for 20 years and dealing guitars too so I've played them all. This thing is a perfect fit for my style and creative flow. In all seriousness, each player should find the instrument that best suits them and the little music box in their head. Play a LOT of instruments to find what best works for you. I thought it would be flat out impossible to make me swear by any bass other than Rickenbacker, but it seems that day has come.

This bass is one of the odd Fender Deluxe Jazz Basses and is also somewhat rare from what I have been told. It is a 4 string 1999 American Deluxe Jazz made in California (I believe). However it has a different body and neck than the new Deluxe Jazz. It has no pick guard and the body is a little bit smaller. The neck is slightly thinnner but is still a standard 22 fret neck. It has Fender Lace Sensor Active pickups with a 3 band EQ and stacked knobs. It has also been fitted with a Badass Bridge. It has standard Fender tuners and a Red Satin finish. The body is made of Ash.

I personally love the sound of this bass. It has a nice rich tone. The active pickups also give it quite a punch for that deep bass sound. I find the pickups to be pretty quit, but not as quit as they could be. I find that the bass has a wide range of sounds and I feel could be used for almost any style of music. For example, I play punk rock. This is not your usual bass for punk rock, but I find it fits me wonderfully.

I did not buy the bass brand new so I do not know how it was set up. I do know that it plays very nicely the way it is now. The action is not too high nor is it too low. It is set pretty much in the middle, with the strings about 3 centimeters above the pickups. The finish is very nice except for one little crack in it that is just below where the neck meets the body. Other than that, I feel that everything is great.

This bass is a Fender. And even though it isnt your tipical Fender, it is still the same American quality that Fender has been producing for over 50 years. I would not be suprised if I still own and play this bass 20 years from now.

I have been a bass player for about 4 years. This is my first "Real" bass. I played almost everything imagineable before I bought this one (Ibanez, Gibson, ESP, Washburn, Alvarez, Warwick, MusicMan, Spector, Peavy) and liked Fender the best. I believe it is one that I will keep for the rest of my life. I love the way it plays and the way it sounds. It is a great bass all around. I do wish the body was a little bit bigger, but thats really no big deal. I also own a 91 Fender American Standard Jazz that I bought after this one. While I like both of them, the deluxe is my favorite of the two.

I play 80% fingerstyle, but like good slap tone when I get a little funky. (I have been playing a EB Sterling for 8 years and wanted a more "jazz" sound) The Amer Del sounds like a true jazz bass...but maybe a bit too "active-sounding". I was hoping for a fuller bottom end, but hey..this is a jazz bass. I use a floor full of effects, but mostly stick to my Boss ME-8B. Between my effects, the "noiseless pickups and an Eden head, there is simply no "noise". I LOVE the thump and pluck sound that is gives...extremely bright. Leave the treble flat, anything past 12:00 is extremely harsh. Sounds best when played flat...no boost. If you need extra fingerstyle, simply turn up the midrange and it growls. Unplugged, it gives a warm tone. The pickup selector is a bit awkward because my old Jazz had separate volumes for each pick-up and overall tone... sometime to get used to.

Terrible! Probably due to the super-store inventory and quality control...or the utter lack of any skilled luthiers in the store. Action was extremely high and the neck was loose! The fret wire was (is) filled to excess....looks really ugly. Definately needs some polishing. Set-up was terrible, but I'll chalk up the score for the beautiful Sunburst finish.

Oh yes, it's a Fender! However, they lighten up the bass from previous years but changing the tuners. They are made of a plastic backing which doesn't increase my confidence. The strap buttons are extremely solid and the bass comes with locking straps. After I had the bass adjusted, it has played like a charm and has yet to go out of tune or adjustment. I never play without a back-up, but I definately trust this bass. Also, this thing is LIGHT! I though my Sterling was a joy to carry on stage until I played the Am Del Jazz. If nothing else, but it on sheer weight alone.

My set-up guy is Fender authorized repair, so I don't foresee any big problems unless I have to deal with Fender direct. No far, so good.

I've been playing for 12 years and always wanted a Jazz. I was comtemplating a custom or vintage (a few 71s and 72s in town), but decided to go with current production. My other basses that get use are EB MM Sterling and a custom fretless P-bass with EMG P/J. I would definately buy another Am Del if this one got pilferred. I REALLY like the overall sound that I get. My (2) peaves...1) All the wood that got cut away for the active system. I would prefer to play without a pick guard, but Fender butchers the inside so the pick guard is mandatory. 2) I have no clue whether it's an Ash or Alder body. It looks like Ash and I believe all translucate colors are Ash. If ya know, please email me. I am hoping to add a Hipshot Xtender, but currently they don't have an exact replacement for the tuner shape.

Well, I finally shelled out for a "real" bass. This one happened to be a 1999 corona california made Fender American Deluxe Jazz bass. I oringinally wanted a 5 string, but I could only find the american deluxe in a 4, so thats what I got. I opted for the transparent teal finish, not only because it looked cool, but I got the ash body too. The Pickups are active "noiseless" models with 2 polepieces each string(something I hadn't ever seen on this model bass before). A 3 band active eq with a single volume knob and a pan knob to blend the pickups round out the electronics. The tuning machines on this bass are quite cool. very light. in fact the whole bass is pretty light, but tone is not sacrificed. The bass came with a rectangular fender hardshell(not the molded one), a leather strap, truss rod wrench, polising cloth and a cable.

It really took me a while to find the right sound with this bass. I play melodic indie rock generally, and I found my sound to be not full ,but kind of cluttered sonicly. I turned off the graphic eq on my Trace Elliot GP7SM and scooped the mids on the bass's active eq and got the perfect tone. I guess I'm just not used to the versatility of active electronics yet. I find I can get a really good bootsy funk tone out of it. Slap and pop sounds a little brittle on this guy, but maybe I just haven't figured out how to dial that sound in yet. The pickup "pan" knob can give you a lot of different sounds too. the bridge pickup is really high end-ish and attacky, while the neck is full and mellow. these can be blended to suit your taste. I find my self gravitating halfway towards the neck pickup.

The factory action was a bit buzzy. I think the trip from california to new jersey to indiana may have played some part in that. The pickups and bridge were setup great, and a few tweaks got the neck dialed in. The only flaw I found was a small gap in the neck heel next to the neck. It's barely noticable though.

The am. dlx. jazz has been doing pretty well live. Stays in tune well. I see no signs of weal on the finish yet, which is kind of disappointing. I'd love to get that "vintage" worn in look(ie: Nate Mendels bass from the foo fighters). It came with strap locks so I've never had any strap problems. I would use it without backup but I am a little scared about the battery dying. It'd be nice to have a quick change compartment like the carvins to make a quick change much easier.

I've been playing bass for about two years, I also play guitar and drums (both for about 7 years). As for bass gear I've been using my Trace GP7SM with a presonus blue max compressor and an SWR Bassic 2 way cab(serial 229! WooHoo!). And sometimes I use a SWR workingmans 160 amp and workingmans 15+ horn cab. If this bass got stolen, I probably wouldn't buy it again, just because of the sheer price. True, it's a great bass, but too much unless you're on a major label budget. Now that I have it though, I wouldn't change a thing. Maybe add a thumbrest, thats it though.

With those knobs are a volume knob and a volume pot knob with can be used to put a pickup out of the signal. The pickups are the new Fender "Special design Jazz Bass pickups" with are humless. The body is alder with a rosewood graphite reinforced neck. The bridge has both string through body and top loading capabilities and the tuners are Fender Deluxe lightweight tuners. Included is the Schaller strap lock system. Came with a Fender cable, strap, Deluxe Fender Molded Case, cleaning rag and Fender Super Bass 8250M strings.

The sound/tone is perfect for my jazz style and I use it a tad for rock and roll. Whether in a combo or a big band the sound cuts through and sounds great. I have found this bass is tons easier to play harder licks on compared to my other one, another major plus. I use a variety of three amps, either a GK M150 (i think thats the model number), a Peavey TKO 115s, and a Hartke 1500. Through each one it cuts through, even with odd EQ settings. No matter what settings you have no buzz comes through, just the tone and a bit of string noise (fingers rubbing on strings *shudder*). With those pickups it has a rich full sound. The highs are bright and the lows are powerful. Its something to be reckoned with. I don't think there is much of a variety of sounds. I mean you can definitely make different tones, lots of them but they just dont apply for much more then jazz. This is one of my few dislikes of the bass, you can slap/pop or play certain styles (as it is to be expected on fretless though). BUT it has an awesome tone for finger funk!! I think my favorite part of the bass is its response to all tones, from low E to harmoics at 1.2 on the G string, all there clear!! Perfect for Jaco covers.

The factory created an Angel with this beauty. As I opened it (it was sent from the factory to my place of purchase...) everyone in the shop, bass player or not (guitar players as well!) gasped in its presence. The factory set it up perfect, the strings were at perfect height, the pickups were in perfect place and the finish was flawless (3 color sunburst!). There was nothing I had to change from when I got it (except unfortunatly the strings, why cant bass strings be cheap like guitar strings?).

I see no reason why the guitar won't stand the test of time. The only thing undependable is the battery for the EQ, going out every month or so (longer if I don't play much). I wouldnt use it with out a backup because of this, I can't be unscrewing the back panel while in the middle of "SonnyMoon for Two" (i love that song).

I have been playing for about four years now. I also have a Shane P/J bass. A no name but it has a great sound and I love it. I also own a Peavey TKO 115s amp, 80 watts and 1x15" speaker. I would definitely morn the loss of this beauty and buy a similiar one again, probably the exact same.. but I have heard they are discontinuing it... hmm....I love the fretless sound, it has a rich tone that just gets yeah saying "oh yeah thats cool"
