USA made, not sure what year but it's "new". Transparent Crimson Red finish with a Tortuose Shell Pickgard, nice chrome knobs. Finish is great, you can see the grain of the wood although there's not much grain there on the alder body. "P" pickup at the neck and the big fat Humbucker at the bridge. Active electronics, a huge array of tones at your fingertips here. Standard 34 scale, great neck, rosewood fretboard. Overall very clean and well put together, looks very sharp. String thru the body or the bridge. It's not too heavy but beefy enough. I traded an old EBMM Stingray for this, I was sad to see the old Stingray go, but this Fender kicks ass.
Sound

Sounds just great. With the pickup configuration you can pretty much cop any tone your looking for. I run it through an SVT350,4x10 with a Bass Compactor on the floor, it's tight. I play in an original blues based rock band and we do a variety of covers too on those long nights, the bass delivers no matter what the style.
Action, Fit, & Finish

I had to tweak the neck and re-intonate the bass after taking it home. The action was a little high at the 12th fret. Ten minutes or so and it was tip-top. The neck feels great, it's smooth and fast. Everything else seem tight. I havn't had the bass very long as of this writing, but I have a feeling I'll still dig it months and years from now. Pickups are quiet. My bass had been dropped by some clown at the store so the strap button on the bottom was bent and the finished cracked a little in that area. But since it's on the ass end of the bass you would never see it unless you really looked for it. Besides, this little flaw saved me an extra $200. I think you could drop this thing anyway and unless you busted the neck it wouldn't hurt, it's solid as hell. I give it a 9 for the flaw.
Reliability/Durability

Like I said, it's solid as hell. I gig out alot and it's important to have a durable and reliable ax. I don't like the stock stap locks, the "U" shaped ones. I think they suck, so I'll get the ones that snap INSIDE the post, they allow for more movement when yer rockin, and they won't come undone like those shitty "U" models. I would gig without a backup, although I never really do, I would.

I've been playing going on 20 years. I've always been a Strat man, so when it came time to get a new bass Fender was an obvious choice. I'm glad I went with it. If I had to replace it I would probably get another for sure.

This bass is a 97' model. It is teal, has a rosewood neck, has 4 knobs (volume, parameter, treble, mid, bass), a pearly pick guard, 23 frets, and it came with a polish cloth and SKB case. Pretty good deal for $500. It is the 4 string model too. It has a classic p-bass pickup and a FAT humbucker, kinda like an ernie ball type deal. You cal load the string on top of the bridge of from behind.

This bass has so much to offer tone wise. I can make it sound like a normal p-bass, and ernie-ball stingray, etc. You can play with it in any style. I play a lot or rage, nirvana, chili peppers, etc. and it suits those styles very well. You can make it distort though with all of the knobs cranked, with can sound pretty damn cool.

I got this bass used. It had some rock star cigarette burns on the headstock, and some belt scratches on the back. However, I could care less. The teal color is Excellent, the pickguard is freakin' rad, I love it!

It is a Fender, so it will last forever. I had to do some work on it when i got it, (the store didn't do the best job setting it up) but I have heard Fender's are extremely reliable. One guy threw his fender p-bass across stage, it hit a moniter, and fell down. The guy picked it up and started playin again, still it tune! I have no need for a back up too. It didn't come with straplocks but i got them anyway, I thought it was a good investment.

Havn't deal with Fender, yet my store is way cool dispite their lack of setting up skills.

I have been playing for about a year and a half. I have an SWR workingman amp with a 15" speaker and horn. I also have custom bass with Bartolini pickups. I would buy this bass imediatly if it were stolen and I have money.

Late 90's fender american p-bass deluxe. Rosewood neck with abaone inlays. Controls - Volume, Pickup balance, trbl, mid, bass Pickups - precision and humbucking bridge pickup Came with strap, truss-nut wrench. Pretty Pearloid pick guard. I really like the sound of 2tek bridge, and am considering having one installed on it for even more sustain; the bass already has a lot of tone.

Wonderful sound, sounds like a p-bass, loaded with tone, I really dig the humbucker and did I mention its loaded with tone?

Purchased used, (like new) everything was set up just fine. Again, this bass was used so it did have a few little belt buckle dings on it. The plastic wrap type covering on the pickguard was still on the bass so it must now have been used very long. The unit was clean (had been played by customers at guitar center chicago) There was a small incident with the truss nut, but hey it was used...

the Bass is strong, hardware is well made, the finish is a shiny black which is durable. The straplocks came standard on it and since I already have straplocks on all my instruments it was pleasant surprise not to have to install two straplock buttons (the bass new does come with a strap lock set and black leather fender strap)

Never dealt with the company, but I did have to buy a new truss nut on the neck. The sales associate at guitar center chicago was very juvenile, egotistical, and inconsiderate to the needs of a custome spending 1000$ that day in his department (i bought other stuff too). Christopher Thornhill, the gentleman who helped me, while at the checkout counter decided to lower the action and mildly damaged the nut on the neck. I came back and the store offered no help, ol boy Chris said to buy a new neck (yah right!) So i spent about 4$ and called parts plus (fender parts dealer) and bought a new nut. Chris was the only part of the whole deal that was sour. I have not had to deal with fender, so this low ranking is *not* directed at them, it is aimed at Guitar Center corporation.

Other then salesman being rude, crude, and inconsiderate (he is an excellent bass player if that has any redeeming value) I love the bass, and play it through a trace elliot gp12smx preamp or an ampeg svp-pro preamp or a jackson jx-3 tube overdrive preamp (guitar preamp used for overdriven bass parts) The bass does very well and is a wonderful compliment to the ibanez sr-800 and hamer usa 5 string fretless chapparal that I play. I dont recommend buying used instruments from a major chain. Spend the extra cash to buy a new instrument from a small dealer who cares.

1996 Electric Bass made in America (I got it used but I believe this instrument was actually denominated in '96 as a "Precision Bass Deluxe," however it is made in the USA and has the same specs as the new "American Deluxe" P-Bass, as opposed to the "Deluxe" series made overseas, if that's confusing enough for you). It has an alder body, a graphite-reinforced maple neck, a standard p-bass body and neck shape, active electronics, standard p-bass split-coil pick-ups and a "special" jazz humbucking pickup in the bridge. It features a volume knob, separate bass and treble equalization knobs, a fully variable rotary knob between the two pick-ups, and another fully variable rotary knob between active and passive electronics. The knobs allow you to fine-tune an impressive array of sounds, making this one of the most versatile basses out there. The strings can go either through the body or be attached to the bridge. My instrument is crimson transparent, and the finish is well-done. Mine came with a standard Fender p-bass black tolex case.

I'm a guitar player who plays bass on the side. I shopped a long time for a bass that could play all kinds of music. Essentially, I was always torn between the deep groove of p-bass pick-ups (my favorite), and the edgy growl of jazz pick-ups (which I also liked), so I could never settle on one or the other. This bass solved that dilemma, featuring both. It suits almost any kind of music or playing style, and while the active electronics are not as nice as they would be on specialty bass maker's models, they boost the sound over that of the Fender American Standard basses, both the p-bass and the jazz. However, since I'm not a full-time bassist and I don't have a great bass amp (I play it through a Hartke Kickback, which is adequate for me, but doesn't allow me to elaborate on its sound), I really can't comment on the finer points of its tone, other than to say that I have been uniformly impressed and that the pick-ups don't hiss. My only complaints are that I wish this instrument came with the Jazz body and neck, which I prefer over the p-bass body and neck, and I wish it was a 5-string. My rating is based on my lack of bass experience; go play one for yourself and see what you think.

I got it used, but the set-up was fine and the instrument is in great shape. The neck has aged well but some of the frets were a bit rough. The crimson transparent finish is nice but not overwhelming, particularly since the wood is not that great to look at.
Reliability/Durability

It's a big, heavy, solid instrument. The graphite in the neck should help things out in the long-run. However, I don't play it 6 hours a day so I can't speak for its durability. It certainly appears durable.

Other than the gear already noted, I have an '80 Les Paul Custom, a '97 American Standard Strat, and a Taylor 314. I play through a Top Hat Club Royale and use Fulltone effects. The American Deluxe is my only bass, and I love it. It's a multi-purpose instrument for someone who doesn't focus on the bass, and I'm confident that full-time bass players would be pleased with it as well. Essentially, it's like having both an American Standard P-Bass and Jazz Bass in one with active electronics, better knobs, and higher overall quality. With the variable rotary knobs, you can dial in just about any sound you want.

New 1998, 22 medium-jumbo frets, 1 vintage P-Bass at neck, 1 special design humbucker at bridge, master volume, master tone, treble/bass boost/cut, mid boost/cut, active electronics, string-thru body or top-load, black body, off-white pickguard and maple neck with opal fret markings. Came with hardshell case, cable, strap, a crappy little yellow cleaning cloth that falls apart and gets all over everything, a free stool, and an Eric Clapton CD: Pilgrim.

This bass's sound is incredible. My style is anything alternative/punk and jazz. Using the EQ, virtually any type of sound can be gotten, be it high-end Green Day, mid-range Goldfinger, or a mellow walking sound. I don't know much about active electronics (my last bass was a low-end Peavy), so i don't know how long that battery'll last, but this bass sounds good even coming out of my pathetic 15w amp, not scratching at all (except highest treble boost... careful).

I didn't have to make any adjustments. Fender did a great job setting it up.

This guitar is indestructable. My only complaint is the crappy locking strap system. Takes too long to set up and screws up the way I hold a bass. Just put the strap directly onto the strap lock pegs themselves and it works fine.

I've been playing for a mere year and playing in a band for about half a year, and I don't see any need for me to ever have to buy another bass. If it was stolen, I would find the guy would stole it, kick his ass and take it back. This is the best precision-style bass I've ever played, and doubt I'll find a better one.
