I received it new from Fender around 5/21/08 . The reason i ordered this bass was because i had just received my 08 Fender American Standard P-5 and the quality on the P was better then anything else i have owned in 30 years and 42 bass's prior to the P ,,most all high end . The P weighs only 9 pounds and i was so happy to just have 1 Fender that light . Believe it or not , This new Fender American Standard Jazz also weighs in at a cool 9 pounds !!!!!!! Quality and the changes Fender has made support all the hype on both the J and P 5 . I am giving a 10 here because even though we all know that a J is simple ,,, any old schooler thats tried almost everything out there and owned many active bass's , the bottom line still is that Fenders ideas including all the specs of the J or P must have been given to Leo Fender from God because they are still the best sounding , playing and feeling instruments that most everyone making bass's are still trying to improve and i honestly don't believe that they ever will . In fact the quality Fender is producing right now in 2008 exceeds any of the old Fenders in my opinion . That might make some of you angry to read but bring your old one in and A/B it next to one of these and you will be surprised .

Sound : 10
Its the best sound ever and most sought after sound . Classic Fender passive J rich tone that no active bass even comes close too . It records the absolute best and the stock Fender strings are also the best for this bass ,, Fender has hit a home run out of the park with both this new ASJ 5 and the ASP 5 ,, by the way , they have a powerful but not harsh B string that matches the other strings !!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Again Leo Fender got it right with every detail including the 9 1/2" radius fretboard which is better for slap ect. It is more comfortable and natural feeling on your hands then these other companies more flat fretboards of 12 " on up .

Reliability/Durability : 10
No one has withstood the test of time as long as Fender and this brings up another positive for passive bass's such as these ,, These have allot less to ( wear out ) go wrong and so for me it took awhile to learn that nothing beats a good Fender but i am amazed to get 2 back to back that are so light at only 9 each . By the way my Fender dealer told me that the Fender rep had just mentioned that Fender was not going to make any more heavy american bass's and that they had already stepped up quality control to reject heavier boards and i would have to say that as for me , Fender has proven that they are speaking the truth .

Customer Support : No Opinion
I don't beat my equipment and will not need to call them .

Overall Rating : 10
It would be easier to tell you what i haven't owned or played . I plan to keep these new Fenders for the rest of my life . This is a bargain for a lightweight American Fender that is still the best !
