This bass is beautiful and sweet. All the best Fender has to offer in a standard P-Bass package. Passive pick-ups are mellow, throaty, and bottom heavy. I have only played it at one rehearsal so far and play it out for the first time tomorrow. My amp is having a hard time pushing some of the low-end over tones. I bet it sounds great through a tube amp with no compression on. The bridge set-up is to die for. Old school but with modern refinements. Light weight, yet solid feel; beautiful paint job, sunburst color-blending is subtle (so many are harsh). Tuners are tight and big, and easy to work with. Accessories are nice. The guys I jam with were pretty impressed. Some like the old-school look, but others prefer a more modern look. Of course, the older you are, the more you will probably like this classic 60's look.

This is a mellow, big bottom, old-school Motown sound. Great for classic rock, pop, or blues sound. Does not attack like a modern active bass; the sound blossoms into he room and with the right amp will shake the room. Sustain for days!! The only thing, it is NOT a versatile sound to this instrument. This unique distinctive sound may not be for everyone that is why a 8, BUT having said that, it does what it does better than anything else for that true-blue classic American sound. The low B-string is good, tight, and punchy, not too boomy or floppy, but is not it's strong suit. However the upper end sounds GREAT! It just has so much depth and presence without being in your face. The lower end tones are subtle, rich, mellow, and deep, with fantastic overtones you do not normally hear on many basses. Try playing that lick "For the Love of Money" and you will hear it! One volume and one tone control - that is it. The sound of the instrument comes through and is very unique P-Bass sounding.

Fit, finish, set-up, details as perfect as you can get. Action is a little high for me, but not bad (comes medium, I will probably have that lowered a bit later, but the intonation was perfect. The neck is smooth and the fret board is silky. Wide string spacing really allows you to dig in or lay back. Good slapping in that it is very throaty 70's slap sound. I feel like I am playing a REAL bass.

This bass will last for 50 years or more if treated right. An item that will age gracefully and gain in value over the years unlike the foreign made models. This bass will still sound good in 50 years, even with rusted hardware.

This bass just has that unique character, style, and mojo of the Fender-P bass past legacy. This year model is so much better than most of the Standards that tried to "Modernize"it too much in the 90's. This year they have gone back to high quality workmanship with minor modern refinements that have made it that much better. The case it comes with is first class too - really if you like the playability and the distinctive sound it makes, there is nothing better. DO NOT expect this bass to sound like every other bass or to be able to sound too many different ways - it only has a few tones. Fat and throaty or dark and mellow. Turn the tone back and now you sound like James Jamerson Motown days. This bass is definitely an investment, but well worth it. You feel like Fender really did a lot to bring the quality up and throw in many upper-end features that you know is worth the price.

Made in spring of 2008 , i just received it 1 week ago May 13th . Fender has made a real winner with this new long awaited passive vintage style P-5 . Mine is only 9 lb.s and is white with the rosewood board . i really like this white as it is off white kind of cream looking and it looks rich with the darker brownish pickguard and the rose board , it looks much better then the pictures make it look ! This is what a true P-bass should be and sounds better then the active ones i had to buy in the past ,, this one has a deep throaty kind of tone !

Action was pretty high from the factory and it took me about 5 days to perfect as the neck was going thru climate changes . These have a jazz neck that feels even better too me then my Laklands !

I doubt very much if you would be disappointed . I've had much more expensive bass's that didn't even compare with this , most of the 43 i've had were more expensive then this and most now are not even made in the U.S. like this is . I am so impressed overall that i had to order the Am STd jazz 5 as well , it should be here next week . Meanwhile i'm selling other great bass's because this is what i have been waiting so long for .
