Features : 10
I have a Mark Hoppus signature mexico bass which was made in 2003. Mexico series are cheaper variant of fender basses, accesible to regular people. It has jumbo frets (it's so great to play! - plenty of space to move your fingers, but still normal size), regular 4 stringed (does it even exist with more than 4 strings?). Solid-top, pickguard is 4-ply pearloid (if you choose surf green, daphne blue or shell pink, in black edition you get ordinary pickguard). It has only volume knob, but the interesting thing about this is that with this knob you also change the tone a little bit. Mark would also removed this one if he would decided). The bass has one SPB 3/4 (seymour duncan) pickup on mid position in jazz body. It is passive pickup but it's more than enough - with it's deep and sensitive tone you are able to play from lullabies to punk-rock, it is very versatile. The body is made of alder. Neck is made of maple wood (satin finish both body and neck) Comparing to ibanez or warwick basses it is pretty heavy, similar to musicman basses. Jazz body, but that all about jazz bass. Pickup and neck is from precision bass. Bridge is the same as on standard series: string-through-body configuration. Tuners. Standard precision bass tuners. Neck has 20 medium jumbo frets. Neck really is one of the best parts of this bass - before I played ibanez and when I started playing on this I couldn't stop. Fender's neck is more open, you don't have to squeeze your fingers. Gig bag is included, you also get fender strings on it, but I recomend you to change them as soon as possible :)

Sound : 10
Well I play punk-rock and it perfectly suits my music style. It was made for playing punk-rock. Tone is incredible, very deep and warm(if you turn off the mids especially), very powerful. Lows are really deep and cruchy, mids are cutting, highs are warm, but it also depends on which strings you're using. Playing this honey through ampeg or gk must be fantastic, but it doesn't sound bad at all on my ashdown. I don't use any effects - bass part sounds best with no effects. Yeah, it's very, very noisy if you turn the output knob to the end. Overall its sound is quite warm and very rich. This pickup containes perfect mix, it's really cool feeling playing this bass.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The bass wasn't set up bad. It could be better. Around the freatboards and pickup there was some dirt so I had to clean it up before I even turned it on. But otherwise it's great. Sometimes I play really hard and tough on this bass and I still didn't have to change the frets. It's combined well (check out the suzuki guitars and you'll throw up)

Reliability/Durability : 10
Very reliable, it seems the hardware and wood will last for at least 50 years. Neck doesn't have to be adjusted, I did it only once - when I bought it. I am using it without a backup all the time because I trust in it. If you hit it too hard the only effect will be painful hand, so don't worry, it won't just fall apart.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I had no problems with my bass so I can't say anything here.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing this bass for 1 year now. I have another bass (ibanez) and acoustic guitar. I would definetly buy it again if i would lost it or if someone would stole it. I LOVE it. I have no complains at all. My favourite feature is pickup. I compared it to jazz and precision basses and musicman basses. I chose this one because I like its elements, it very simple but still cool. I hate guitar with too many knobs and pickups; simple rules. And I always wanted to have a fender bass (they're the best).

This bass kicks ass, all you need is the volume knob because it sounds so incredable. I guess i got lucky because mine came with no defects and everyones been saying shit about that.

I play some pretty cool stuff its punk rock but its new shit that know ones heard before see http://alkott.tk I also run it through a digi-tech flange and its so good. Awh i love this bass

Mexican made bass with volume knob, Seymour Duncan pickup, Pearloid pick guard, string thru body USA bridge. No tone knob. Daphne blue finish.

Sound : 10
This bass has a sound which is ideally suited to punk and rock music. The tone is warm and punchy and really cuts through in a rehearsal or live situation. The Basslines pickup gives the mid some much needed balls, and it's far more powerful than the pickups in my fender active precision bass. This sound isn't going to suit everybody and after trying one of these basses out you will immediately know if you like it or not. For bassists that require a lot of tonal adjustment, this bass is plainly not going to be on your shopping list. Haven't recorded with it yet, although i expect it will be ok.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The bass came perfectly set up. The action is probably too low for slappers but for playing with a pick it's ideal. No problems with the finish, the paint looks great and the neck pockets are fine. Perhaps there might be some quality control issues in the mexican factory, so make sure you check out the finish before you buy one, as it's a shame to spoil a nice guitar with sloppy finishing. I also own a jap P bass active and there is nothing between them in terms of finishing quality.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This thing is solid. USA bridge and decent pickup should stand up to most situations. My other fender has never missed a beat and it's 7 years old.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with them.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
This bass is pretty basic but the concept works extremely well. It isn't laden with features so deciding if you want one or not should be easy. Forget Mark Hoppus and what you have is a purpose built bass for punk/rock music without a heavy price tag. Spend the money you save on the bass to buy some meaty amplification and you will not be dissapointed. I've been playing for 10 years. If it got stolen I would either buy another one or buy a USA P bass and put the basslines pickup in it.

Great sound i think...only thing is when u buy it from fender you have to replace the strings...they give you fender strings which sound decient but to get that "mark Hoppus" string snaps you need to get some ernie ball. It holds down the bottom end really well for all types of music. i love to play punk and jazz and it can do the jazz well (if you can work your eq on the amp) i really love the pickups...mmmmmm instagazim

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
action was fine
pickups good
awsome color. pick guard adds a really nice touch if u like unique looking guitars.

Reliability/Durability : 9
this bass is a bad ass...it can take a beating...the strap buttons came lose a little near the end but me and my trusty screw driver fixed that.
i always have a back up just incase...u never know when a goblin will snatch your bass away

Customer Support : No Opinion
never delt with them

Overall Rating : 10
i've been playing for 5 years now and it sounds best with an ampeg amp (cuz ampeg ownes and SWR sucks) my 2x10 combo makes it sound warm and fat.
if it were stolen i would have to steal it from someone else cuz they discontinued it.. :(
i wish it already came with the ernie ball strings cuz that's another 20 bucks u got to spend...but then again fender strings aren't all that bad....right?
The other people who diss the bass dont hate the bass...they are mad that a band (blink 182) made it hudge without having overly complicated songs...songs dont have to be complicated to be awsome. these people are just ignorant pieces of poop

i own a mark hoppus 2001 mexico for bout 7 months now* 20 frets* 4 string* single knob for volume (no other knobs, such as a tone knob) which i find cool! simply cool! i love it*
SEYMOURDUNCAN quarter pounder hot coil p-bass pickups, which is the best ever, such a rich bright sound*
maple neck*
rosewood fretboard*
alder body*
shell pink finish, very sexy chic bait*
jazz body and p-bass neck so unique its sexy*
string thru body very unique as no other basses do this but i must say on the second day after buyin it i replaced the strings with ernie balls n when i replaced the strings one of the metal caps of the string thru body thing fell off but easily replaced back once strings are placed, but still!!!!GRRR
* medium jumbo frets*
comes with deluxe gig bag and two wrench tools.

Sound : 9
perfect for my style of punk playing, ive always wanted that sound! not cause blink plays it but cause the bass sound grabs me like no other so unique so crystaly n cutting edge and bright (love it)so im glad they made this model, but im still in the process of finding my sound which i hope will progress from the hoppus sound into a me+hoppus sound to make it more unique. i use a 15 watt squier amp at home (possibly the shittiest bass amp ever made) but u know what the guitar makes the amp sound more expensive than it really is, this guitar makes any amp sound good honestly, its amazing. its a real quiet bass. the sound is rich, phat , bright, hot , colorful, ding ding ding high, it somewhat mixes a rhythm guitar n a bass (love it) i have played this on stage and the studio and its awesome in both settings but live is my fave, cause the sound jus makes it stand out for for some reason. i'm in love with this bass, not mark in fact i wanna change the plate that has his name on it to a fender or blank one. only draw back to this bass is some frets buzz sadly like e-5 e-6 n the pegs would make a sound too when i pick some frets like a-4, i should take it back to the dealer for adjustments, but still fenders a rich company and i believe that it should be presented at best. and the neck pocket the one next to the e string u can fit a credit card through n i hear that thats not very nice n the pocket next to the g string appears not very finished like it had bumps, it dint look to smooth. this bass has a high sound which i like ding ding ding not flat but phat

Action, Fit, & Finish : 4
k here we go (in tears) the neck pockets-the pocket located near the e-string u can slide a credit card though-i hear thats not a good thing(right?) and on the pocket by the g-string the credit card wont fit (wierd) it means its not balanced or something and the pocket by the g-string dint appear smooth it had some tiny bumpy thing goin on (SUCKS). the pick ups seem to be adjusted perfectly. the pick guard was a neat 4 0r is it 3 ply pearloid, it was neat BUT THE PEARLOID HAD LIGHT SCRATCHES ON Em EVERY WHERE very wierd! not the type of scratches like some one played it at the store but schratches every where in wierd patterns, i have no clue what the f*ck that means, but it bummmed me out, also cause it dint come wrapped in those sticky plastic scratch protecting things, so that bummed me out too. as for the tuning pegs its not the tightest or loosest peg out there, but i have to tune the guitar everyday. fender should really up there finish man. i mean we pay alot for these toys, its like buyin a car from ferrari but the window or the door doesnt shut properly unless u tweak it urself- thats not right! isnt it? fender ur lucky im givin u a 4 for this category, only cause it is the awesomest bass ever! ur finishes are filthy! except the paint, it was gorgeous except for the paint on the neck pocket next to the g-string tsk tsk

Reliability/Durability : 8
yea it'l with stand live, i jump around n jus go nuts n feel the music n its fine, but u might wanna tune it at certain times to make sure or u can tighten the pegs (can u do that) (pls say yes) the hardware is chrome (kick ass) seems like it'l last if u treat her right! the paint finish is sexy, it'l last maybe, it seems different from other bass finishes as in it looks better. my ernie ball strap slips off seldomly when i play n that really sucks so im gonna get a strap guard.
i would use it on a gig without back up (its stupid, but i live on the edge) i know though u always gotta have back up no matter what, but still jus chill LIVE OUT YOUR LIFE

Customer Support : 2
i have called fender once n they werent really helpful and plus it wasnt even a 1-800 number, all they said was call the shop i bought it from, cause i complaind about some buzzing n they said thats not right so i took it to the shop three or 4 times n even they said nah that buzz doesnt sound right, so they tweaked with it n got rid of major buzzings but u can still hear some, the neck doesnt appear warped though, so this is unusual. warantees 1 year.

Overall Rating : 8
i've been playong for four years now. i own a squier strat, kay acoustic guitar, rocker jazz bass, 110 watt fender amp, 15 watt squier amp, yamaha drum pad machine, zoom digital 3 track , creative speakers, dunlop .50 & . 60 picks, ernie ball strap, ernie ball strings, and of course the hoppus bass.
anything i wish i had asked before buyin this bass was did somebody buy this n return it? if i lost this bass i would definitely buy it again, i'd be so pissed man, but i definitely would work at burger king again n save up n work over time till i come up with the money, then i'd quit burger king and rock AGAIN. this is the best gear i have ever had, i'm in love with it not cause its a hoppus but cause its got that sound ive always been longing for. its perfect, probly the only bass i'l want for life. theres so much to love bout this bass, it looks hot,, it sounds even hotter, what more can i want?! probly a perfect finish is what i want, cause like i said fender mexico did a lil sloppy job on her. my fave feature bout her is its SIMPLICITY. i dint have to compare, cause this bass stands out physically n hearingly i mean the sound man its what i always wanted from the get go even before this bass was made. so i dint have to compare it or even think twice. in fact i'd do it all over again if i could but like i said i wish i woulda noticed those buzzin frets. what i wish this bass had was a perfect finish is all. my advise to u guys is before buyin somethin analyze it, be real anal (for this pays off in the long run) play it a lil off the rack. great bass if this is the sound u've longed for. oh n hey contact me if u wanna add somethin bout ur hoppus or if u wanna ask me somethin so we can compare and also if u wanna comment bout something i said, please feel free, im open. thanks n_i_c_k@hotmail.com oh and please tell me what u think bout my buzzing frets

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
puts out a hum and has no shielding but its really minor everything else is great, this is really a great bass, and worth every penny. its the best fender out there period, american, mexican or japanese, this one is simply the best, by the way this one's a mexican, and its better than all the others.

Reliability/Durability : 10
i treat this bass horribly, and it treats me really well

i want a different color pickguard and i don't think they make them.

I don't like blink 182, but who cares, the bass rules.

this bass is great i own a pink AMERICAN (yes fender makes an american version) hoppus bass. this bass is a tank. it takes a beating and keeps playin like new. i use it for gigs all the time w/o a backup. the action is perfect for me. i love haveing the one volume knob. it is so easy to use. the seymour duncan pick ups are one of the best pick ups ever made for bass. i am in a band called down for maintenance and both me and my guitarist use seymour duncan pickups. they just have balls!!!!!!!!!!!

Sound : 10
my band plays rock, some more punk and some more heavy, but with all my styles it plays awsome. i have an ampeg 610 stack amp (loud as hell) and this bass sounds so awsome on it. i almost never have feed back. only when i have my amp up al the way. i cannot pick witch it is better at ( studio or stage) i use it for both. i am in the middle of making my own bass with my local shop and i am putting the seymourduncan pickups in my bass because they sound so great.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
action- perfect, even factory

pick ups- had to raise them a little bit but still i cant blame fender for that. its only a screw driver fix away!

all electronics worked greatnothing wrong

to sum it up in one word fender..............duh

Reliability/Durability : 10
this thing is a tank it goes through anything. i tend to get into my music and jump like the whole concert and nothing has given out.

the only modification i made to it was an atticus sticker and strap locks.

Customer Support : 10
idk never had anything wrong with any of my fenders so i wouldent no but im sure they would be great

i love it and would go straight to guitar center if some one stole it. after i was done balling my eyes out

made in 2003, 21 frets,4 strings,this bass is good

Sound : 10
sounbds really good and you don't have to like mark or blink 182 to love the tone. I use it on an ampeg combo. it isnt too noisy unless you want it to be. has a realy rich, bright sound. its great for punk and shit. there's not too much variety, since it only has a volume knob, but the tone that it DOES have is the best i've ever heard, so you wont want to change it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
great setup, good action, the pickups were fine, no flaws whatsoever. I got the black finish and put a black pickup on as well and its the best looking bass ive ever seen

Reliability/Durability : 10
This bass will definately withstand live play. Its the signature model of a guy who jumps around and acts crazy and stuff. I bet everything will last a very long time. the paint wont wear off and the strap buttons are very nice. i haven't needed to get any adjustments yet. i would never gig without a backup because that's stupid but it is ver dependable.

pretty good

2003 Fender Mark Hoppus Signature Precision Bass
20 frets, 4 string
Solid Alder string-thru body
Quarter-Pound Seymour Duncan Basslines pickups
Daphne Blue Finish
Jazz body, P-Bass neck, P-Bass pickups
Precision tuners
No tone knobs, just one volume knob

Sound : 10
I love the sound I get out of it. I don't have to mess with anything on it to make it sound good. My old bass, you had to mess with the tone knobs AND the EQ on the amp to even make it sound nice. But with this one, you practically just plug in and play. It's got a really nice, bright sound, perfect for cutting thru the other instruments. And it's versitile with any kind of music. I used to play in a punk band that played stuff like Green Day and Blink-182, but I have since moved on to a heavy metal band that plays stuff similar to old Metallica stuff, and with both styles, it sounds amazing! It sounds perfect right along my guitarists with their B.C. Rich and Jackson heavy metal guitars. Overall, it sounds great, nice and bright!! I love it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The bass was pretty well set up at the factory, except the fact that the pickups were sitting too low, but with my trusty screwdriver, that problem was fixed right away. The finish was beatiful. No scraches, no dents, it was just beautiful. The nut was pretty crappy though, I broke it, playing this little solo on the G string, but I got that fixed, which also fixed my other little problem, which was the action was too low, but with the new nut on there, it fixed it so that it was just right. I have to give it a 9, just because of that nut problem, but other than that, it was perfect.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This bass definatly will withstand live playing, I tend to jump around and throw my bass around while playing, and since the bass is a freaking tank and is so heavy, it feels like it's not gonna go fly off. I've dropped it only once, on a pretty hard floor, and it took it pretty well, I couldn't see any dents or anything on it. I took the strap buttons off and put on some good locking ones, just in case, but the ones that came with it seemed pretty strong and solid. I can depend on it all the way. Since there aren't that many electronic features, I think you wouldn't have that many problems with it. I give it a 10. Like I said, the bass is a tank!!

Customer Support : No Opinion
I haven't had to deal with them, but come on, it's a Fender, I'd bet if it had to get fixed, they would be pretty cool about it.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing bass for about two years, and I'm pretty good, self taught, no lessons, I also use a Jackson bass that looks like an Explorer, but isn't, a Dean 5-String, and this other off-brand bass that's pretty nice, i mean it sounds alright, but none of those basses match up to the Mark Hoppus one. The reason I bought the thing was that I went to a concert on the Pop Disaster tour with Green Day, Blink-182, and Jimmy Eat World, and I remember seeing Mark come out with this bright pink Fender P bass, and it looked soo freaking cool, and when he started playing, I remember hearing the thing, and right then and there, I knew I had to have it! If it were stolen, I'd cry like a little girl at first, and then would go out and buy another one, in all of the different colors. I just love that bass to death, and I'd die if I lost it. haha
