I have owned several precision basses, including a '79, '78, '96 and a '66. This is by far the best sounding of them all, and none of them were slouches. Maybe it's in the wood (alder stiffens and sounds better with age), the pickup (the early-mid '60s precisions had alnico pickups), or the fretboard which is Brazilian rosewood (not available since the mid '60s). It's punchier, deeper sounding, and much warmer than the other p's I've owned or played.

action is perfect, low but not too low, the old bridges hold their settings much better than those from the '70's or '80s
Reliability/Durability
:

lightweight, but tough as a slab of granite

been playing bass for 15 years, mostly precisions. The pre-cbs ones are much, much better sounding than any of the later ones I've heard or played.

This is a pretty good guitar, I think it has 21 frets, it has p style pickups and there pretty good. I use this guitar in a jazz band. The think I like the most about thins guitar is the neck on it is so sweet. I love the feel of it.

The sound is pretty good on this baby. I play it thru a 100 watt crate amp and it sounds pretty dam good. I like the tone really low like at 2 or 3.

This bass is a 1974 US made bass, Sunburst finish, stone stock standard. One split pickup, one volume, and one tone control, both metal, non-locking open geared tuners, stndard tailpiece/bridge, chromed steel bridge cover and chromed steel "pickup tunnel", and a wooden finger rest. Sounds great from mello to funky.

No noise, and great tone range from the single pickup. It's played through a homemade amp with a 12" speaker, no effects. Wonderfully easy to play.

The action is superb, but the finish is showing some crazing and cracking. No obvious flaws.

This is one tough bass and I have been using it for over 12 years. Perfect gig bass and it's a good studio bass too. It'll probably outlast me!

I bought the bass used and have never needed another. It is strong and sweet and will probably outlast me. It is plenty versatile. 'Nuff said. Solid workhorse.
