This bass was made in 2030 B.C. in Mexico, where tacos come from. It has 21 frets on a rosewood fingerboard, maple neck, pooplar body. I have a gerbil up my butt. It has your every day refrigerator magnets for pickups, with 2 volumes and a master tone. My funk-dawg bass professor said "Damn, Uhh. I'm funky." when he saw it.

Sound : 1
I play Butt music, and this is perfect for that. I'm in a band with alot of retarded exchange students, and it suits that well. It is noisy only when plugged into an amp, or a weasel. Weasels are very sensitive to Basses plugged into their rectum. It has a bassy sound, because it is a bass. I like Ginger Spice, and I dislike Isaac Hanson.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar was set up perfectly, aside from the ferret strung up in place of the d string. The only flaw in this guitar was the fact that this guitar is one giant flaw, a waste of pooplar, and one good reason to castrate yourself because it would fog the pain of listening to the morbid sounds coming from this plank of death evoking shit.

It was a 1-900 number, so I didn't even bother asking.

I've been playing for as long as I've been alive, cause I'm a playa'. If it were stolen or lost, I would have to use my emergency back up bass, which I keep stored in my closet, by Rodney Dangerfield. I love the way it has alot of things to hate. Don't believe the lies, I am SATAN!!!

Made in Mexico, 22 frets, Poplar body, volume control for each pickup, one tone control (a treble roll-off), 2 passive pickups, white poly finish, thin (1.5 inches at nut) neck with rosewood fingerboard. No case or other accessories were included.

Sound : 8
The Standard Jazz Bass suits what I was looking for: I play finger-style and was looking for something like a "vintage" sound. My '72 Jazz Bass has a heavy ash body and is brighter-sounding. I wanted more mids. I'll be using this bass for playing blues, for a contrast with my Precision bass.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
It was decently set up in the store. (Music stores should be aware that a well-set-up instrument will sell better than one that is not. However, any factory/store setup could be improved upon.) Anyway, the body finish is clean, and I really like the satin finish on the neck. The frets are small but are well installed -- nothing scratching my hands and there are no noticable buzzes yet.

I've not yet used this bass in a live gig situation. Based on past experience with Fender basses, I would guess that the bridge would not stand up well to slap-style playing, which I do not do any more. Finish seems durable. I would probably not use this bass on a gig without a backup, but I usually prefer to carry a backup.

I have 27 years playing experience, and have owned Fender basses for 25. I own a number of other Fender basses, including an ash-bodied early-70's Jazz Bass. These two Jazz Basses sound very different, by the way.
I decided to buy a Standard Jazz Bass after using one owned by a friend of mine. There were several basses at a jam, including a beautiful Music Man Sting Ray bass owned by another friend. Although I loved the feel of the Music Man, I kept going back to this inexpensive Jazz Bass. I just prefer the sound of Fender basses.
At the music store, I tried every kind of Jazz Bass they had, including an American Standard and an American Deluxe. For the sound and feel I am looking for (an older-style, passive-pickup J-bass sound), I actually preferred the sound of the Standard over the other ones I tried.
If I had more money, I would have bought a '62 reissue, and if I won Powerball, I'd buy an original, early-60's Jazz Bass. For the money, though, I couldn't beat this bass.
I'll probably replace the electronics on this eventually.
One caveat: If you are going to buy one of these basses, play several of them, until you find one that suits you. See the review in this forum of a "Jazz Bass" -- I think that reviewer has a Standard Jazz Bass, but not a good one.

I have no idea what year this thing is (if you know, please e-mail me because I have no idea how old this thing is), but it is made in Mexico. It has 20 frets with a maple neck, rosewood fretboard and poplar body. It's controls are 2 volumes and 1 tone. It has 2 Standard Jazz pickups (passive single coils) that are made by Fender, I would think. Brown Sunburst finish. Chrome hardware. 34'' scale. This is a jazz bass.....(as if you haven't guessed that already) The bass might be cheap in price, but it feels very sturdy and looks quite nice (purdy sunburst).

Sound : 8
The pickups aren't the best sounding (this is no American Standard), but they do sound pretty damn good for the price. I use it with a Fender BXR 60 bass combo (not the best amp either, but it sounds pretty damn good for the price also).

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The factory set up was acceptable.....although tweaking an instrument is really a must since not every person plays the same way. From what I can tell, the bass looks pretty good. No flaws that scream out at me. Nothing really to complain about. This might be Fender's "value" line, but that doesn't mean that it looks bad at all. In fact, I love the sunburst finish on this thing. Very nice.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I tend to abuse this thing a bit ,but it doesn't seem to affect it in anyway. I've bumped this thing a million times (I am a clutz) and the finish looks as beautiful as the first day I bought it. Quality stuff. It feels really solid and is comfortable in both sitting and standing positions (as most Fenders are). It will probably withstand years of playing with no problem. Thumbs way up.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have no experience with Fender yet, since this thing hasn't given me any problems (which is a very good thing).

Overall Rating : 10
Overall, this is a great buy. If you are in need of a good quality bass at a price that won't strain your wallet, look into this bass. Good looks, good sound, and is very comfortable and sturdy. If I had to do it again, I would definitely buy it. Two thumbs and a stinky toe way up!

Poplar body, 2 volume 1 tone plastic knobs, Rosewood fretboard, 20 frets, chrome hardware.2 Passive fender jazz standard pickups.

Sound : 8
The sound is passive and warm, but versital. Very quiet (no feedback). Having new strings is a must on this guitar. Not too metallic sounding or trebly, but still good tone distinction

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The intial set up was bad. A and D are much higher than the E and G. The G is to close to the fretboard. Had to drop the E to get a consistency accross the strings, but now now the E is a bit too loose. Finish is fine. Pickups are at a good height.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Very reliable and durable. Frets are not worn in 4 years. Finish is a little less glossy, but oh well

fenders are the best mass produced bass guitars. While not tops in any category, they are reliable, consistant, and pleasant sounding. I'd buy another, but I might go for the American Standard, if only for the wood body. I would recommend it to a beginner or an advanced player, but if you love punch or treble stay away. I wish they were still made exactly like the 68-72 models, but with the newer neck and frets.
