This bass suits perfectly a Maiden playing style (it's a signature after all), but it's versatile enough (not too much, it's a single coil, after all). Great for rock in general, punk and blues. I like the SPB-3 better, but there SPB-1 also sound very good!
I'm playing ig through a Peavey Century head and a 15" Laney Speaker.
I don't think I'll use it in studio, this bass looks great, it's been made to play live!
Nice warm sound, but I prefer SPB-3!

Not well set. I had to set the action all over again (it was way too high) and the pickups too.
The rest was ok.

I guess this is a good instrument, everithing is in it's place and it seems pretty durable. The hardware is in good shape and so is the finish.
The strap buttons are ok, but I put security locks on it anyway!
The neck is ok, it can hold a setting long enough.
I guess I could use it in a gig with no backup at all!

I'm a big fan of Maiden, I already got a customised Fender P-bass with SPB-3 on it, and I'm still using that on stage, but this bass is really wonderful - ok, it's more a toy than a useful instrument, it's worth it's price only if you're a HUGE fan of Harris!
If you just want to play other stuff than Maiden, just get the American Standard!
I liked most the SPB-3 version, but this is good anyway!

This is a Japanese Fender Precision that is built for a specific purpose. The pickup is passive, and the controls are simple. It's made to be played onstage by someone who can play fast - like Steve Harris and myself. The colours are claret and light blue, the team colours of West Ham United, Steve Harris's favourite soccer team.

Any instrument is a compromise. If you want a heavy sound, or if you have hands the size of a baboon's, choose another Fender. This instrument is designed to be played in Steve Harris's style by someone with smallish hands. I am not overly fond of the sound Fenders make. This instrument sounds good enough. I have used it successfully on stage and on record. It's fine. I have used instruments where the sound, in my opinion, is better; but they have never been so practical as this instrument.

Been playing since I was 14. Play in a heavy rock band. I also sing lead vocals. This instrument is easy to play and is ideal. If it were lost or stolen I would probably get another. Look at it like this. You see a famous bass player on a Fender, then you see them playing another make. A couple of years later you see them again, and they are back on a Fender. Fenders are so well designed and practical. They really are best by test.

This is a late 2001 oe early 2002 Fender japanese masde bass. It's got a 20 fret maple board with a 7.5 rdius. It's your typical P bass layout, volume and tone and that's it. The Bassline quarter pounds and both loud and very full. The body is Basswood and the neck is maple. Finished in a Lake Placid Blue that has a cool vibe about it.
The bridge is a Badass 2 and it's very hefty and gives the basssgreat sustain. Tuners look fine and work well. The neck is not a big as some P's, however I have a new 2000 American made it it come close that as far as feel goes.
Sound
:
8
It's a P bass with lots of bottom and lots of mids. It cuts through nicely in a band situation, but it's not going to wow you with crystal clear clarity. Again, it's a P bass.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

Very nicely made although not quite up to the American made Precisions. Mine has a very slight gap on the g string side of the neck and the hardware (not the bridge) is not of the same quality of the American made P's, but again for it's price it's excellent!!. Finish is well applied and overall construction is above average.
Reliability/Durability
:

Plays real nice and the strings are easy to bend that's to that 7.5 Radius board. You can play with a backup as nothing going to go wrong with it. Again it's a P bass so rocket science stuff is not found here. Just a reliable workhorse.

A cheaper well put together P bass that has a cool vibe and is a signature bass of Steve Harris of Maiden fan. A great bass!!.

Japanese Precision Bass, '01, 20 fret 1 piece maple neck w/small frets, Lake Placid Blue basswood body, mirrored wine-red pickguard, SD QP pickup, passive circuit = basic P-bass w/minor refinements.
5 for not alot of features, but exactly as many as anyone needs to play some great bass.
Sound

Sounds killer. Classic P-bass tone with a little extra zing. Killer slap tone too.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

Fret tangs stick out uniformly along the length of the neck on both sides, not sharp or uncomfortable though; a finishing detail, not attributable to the overall construction really. Slightly neck heavy, as basswood is very light.
Neck is very fat, which is cool but can induce fatigue quickly. Action was perfect out of the box. The finish dings really easily though.
7 for bang-for-the-buck.

As solid as any other Fender I've played, and I love the simplicity of the setup and electronics. The finish dings really easily though.

This bass was inexpensive, plays great, sounds killer, looks killer, and has a bass hero's scrawl on the headstock to go with the Eddie logo to boot.
I play Zons onstage and in the studio, and always fretless; every bassist NEEDS a P-bass though, to "keep it real" if you will. This one's really fun to play and a tribute to a hero of mine.

It came right out of the box as a jem. Came right from the factory in tune w/ the medium action set perfectly. When I played it in the store I instantaneously feel in love with it. It has a beautiful lake placid blue finish w/ a red wine pickguard

This bass is a work horse it withstands any type of playing and any playing style in true Fender style. It stays in tune very well and the fretboard is smooth. It took a lot of hard work and my music store called Fender and it was one of the last ones off the line.
Also, i got it for a great price because Fender wanted to get rid of them.

This is a bolt on bass made in 2002 in Japan. It is a 20 fret, 4 string bass with a solid top. It is a blue called "Lake Placid Blue with" a wine red pickguard. You can't tell it's red unless you look in the light. All it has is a volume and tone. It has has 1 Seymour Duncan Quarter pounder P pickup which is great with passive electronics. The body is made of Basswood and the neck and fingerboard are made of maple. The bridge is a Bad Ass 2 and the tuners are Fender Vintage ones with the back open. The neck is a 34'' scale.

This bass suits my style (Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden of course) real good. It sounds warm/bright with the volume and tone all the way up. I play it through a 50W Peavy combo with Boss bass overdrive, Crybaby bass wah, and a Zoom multieffects pedal.

It was set up good at the factory with medium to low action which is the way I like it. The pickups were in good and so was evevything else.

This bass could definetly withstand live playing and I would use it at a gig without a backup. The only thing that might need replacing is the tuners since the are open in the back.

Made in Japan, has a Seymour Duncan Quarter-Pounder, Leo Quann Badass II bridge, wine red mirror pickguard, and volume and tone knobs. Everything you need, nothing you don't, except the pickguard, but it's still cool. I like the sound of the maple fretboard, it's much brighter.

I play mostly punk with this bass, through a SWR workingman's 15. Sounds great, very bright. The tone knob can make an instant difference in tone rather than spending 10 minutes fiddlingwith an active preamp.

Should hold up great, other than the tone knob. Also I wouldn't try imitating flea with the strap buttons this thing has.

I have been playing for three years, and also own an Ibanez SR885, which I don't like because of the muddy B string and too tight of string spacing. If it were stolen or lost, I might buy another, or get an American standard and replace the pickup and bridge with the same this bass has.

The Steve Harris (Iron Maiden) Signature Precision bass is a replica of the bass that was used on the 1985 World Slavery Tour. It is advertised as being "for the bass-playing Maiden fan", but it is quite a bit of bass for just about anyone. It is of Japanese manufacture (which explains it's low cost of around $550), and was introduced in Oct. of 2001. It consists of a 20-fret maple neck and fretboard, basswood body, and chrome plated nickel hardware. Special features include: wine red mirrored pickguard, Bad Ass II bridge, Seymour Duncan Bassline Quarter Pound P-bass pickup, Lake Placid Blue finish, reproduction of Steve's signature on the headstock, Iron Maiden logo, and "Eddie" face, also on the headstock. My bass also came with a Fender Deluxe Molded Hardshell Case. Again, quite a bit of bass for the price!

This bass really rips!! I play in a classic rock (Stones, Humble Pie, Sabbath, Zep, etc.) band, as well as heavy metal (Maiden, Iced Earth, Priest, etc.) and this mother fits the music to a tee. I play through a Ampeg SVT 3 Pro amp, with an Ampeg SVT 410 HLF cab. I also toss in some Boss chorus and bass enhancement to pick the sound up a tad. Simply awesome!! The Quarter Pound pickups are very responsive, with no noise. They kick out a nice, warm, rumble that will get attention and loosen bowels. With the tone knob in the lower settings. On high, there is a bright sound that is wonderful when doing bass solos. There is a surprisingly wide palatte of sounds to work with, even without my effects board. In short, this mother thumps!
Action, Fit, & Finish

Paint was flawless, as well as the condition of the hardware. Factory-set action was also great, and needed almost zero adjustment by me (strings were just a tad high). The pickups were perfect, and I haven't touched them at all. The neck felt slightly rough to me, but I guess that is because I also have an American Precision, and it's neck is like glass. Other than that, absolutely nothing is wrong.

This is a Fender, people! Granted, it isn't an American, but I would invade Afghanistan with this beast single-handedly and bring back Bin Laden's head on the end of it! Everything is tight and solid, and I KNOW that it will stay that way. My band does roughly 50-60 shows a year, and I would have no probs with taking this mother every time with no backup. The ONLY thing that I had to do it was to replace the strap buttons. Stock Fender buttons are kinda wimpy, and I REALLY get into my music. So, strap locks are a must. However, if you just jam in your living room, the regular buttons probably are not an issue, are they?

I have been ripping on the bass for since 1994, and have been getting paid for it since early 1999. I also have a 1994 Ibanez SR800, and a 2000 Fender American Standard P-bass. I LOVE THIS BASS!! It can hang with the two others I own, as well as the dozens of others I have played over the years. Also, not only is it a great collector's piece for any Iron Maiden fan, it plays and sounds great! I pretty much knew what to expect from Fender, and happily, my expectations were exceeded by this bass. If stolen, the culprit would wind up on a milk carton, as they would never find his/her body (hee hee hee). I really love the Maiden logo, and Eddie's face, as it goes really well with my living room decor (many Maiden posters). You really get a lot for what you pay. But this is a limited edition, so you better hurry. UP THE IRONS!
