One of Robs early basses.I got it second hand from a guy who commissioned an identical 5 string version of this bass.
My bass has a rock maple neck with beautiful figuring in the wood and an Australian She Oak body, also a stunning looking wood. P+J passive DiMarzios, Badass II bridge and gotoh tuners. top gear throughout. 2 tone and 2 volume pots, 24 frets, natural finish, strap locks, rosewood fretboard.

The sound is very versatile, i can get older P bass or jazz tones as well as some beautiful thick and warm tones with different pickup blends. i play in an original rock band and also a cover band with a variety of needs and it fulfills all requirements very well.i use a an ampeg svt 3, and, other than a small amount of pot noise when not in contact with the strings, i have been complemented by several sound guys as having the perfect rock tone

great action and everything is solid as rock. Rob Formentin set it up and it has proven to need very few other adjustments. fit and finish are great

this bass is solid as. i have stopped taking back up basses to any gigs it's so reliable. the bass has all top quality fittings and has never had anything come loose,or needed tightening in 3 years. holds tuning for ages in its case between gigs and is very consistent reacting to heat/cold. It needs minor truss rod adjustment about once a year with the seasons to keep it sweet.

Rob gives a life time warranty on all his custom guitars and on the odd occasion i have had an issue or wanted Rob to do the truss rod he has promptly and for free. and always with a smile.

i have been playing for 15 years and i also own Yamaha, Gibson, Martin, Riverhead and Cort basses. I would track this guitar down if it were stolen as i have memorised the serial number and it's pretty unique. When i bought this bass i tried heaps of other basses both similarly priced and more expensive and nothing came close for tone, comfort or quality below about 3 grand or so.the only small thing is it gets a bit heavy after a couple of hours, but i don't mind because it's so solid and great sounding.

A few words about my Australian made Formentin Super J. Rob Formantin built it for me in 1999. It has 24 frets; a rock maple neck; a rosewood fingerboard and a swamp ash body with a triple-coil Bartolini pickup set 40mm further forward than the standard model. It produces the sort of sustain where you can pull a note, put the thing down, come back two days later and it's still ringing!

The tone is somewhere between a Musicman and a 60's Fender Jazz. I do a lot of blues-based stuff and it's pretty near perfect for recreating a classic Chicago sound.

Great customer support. The man who makes them is the man who sells them and you can't get better than that.

Overall, a very well made instrument. Great value for money - a good deal at twice the price.
