2006 G&L ASAT semi-hollow with f-hole. Made in the USA. 4 strings, 22 frets. Ash body with gloss finish over honeyburst, maple 3 bolt bolt on neck with rosewood fretboard and satin finish. 3 knobs - 1. Volume 2. treble roll-off 3. bass roll-off. 3 mini-switches - 1. pickup selector 2. series/parallel selector 3. passive/active/active with treble boost. The ASAT body style is like a Fender telecaster guitar. It has a G&L locking bridge and hipshot ultralight tuners. Came with tools, waranty, certificate, sticker and a G&L case that looks like it's supposed to be for an L2000 but the ASAT fits snugly anyways.

This an amazing sounding bass capable of producing a very wide range of tones. It shares the electronics, pickups and sound of the regular ASAT and L2000. As this is the semi-hollow body version, I was expecting the tone to be a little woodier or more boomy than the solid body versions but I couldn't hear a truly noticable difference between semi-hollow and solid other than the normal differences you would expect to hear between any two basses. So check those reviews also for others' insights into the tones these things can make.

The tone can go from mellow and classic to extremely aggressive and modern depending on how you tweek the electronics. While it has it's own distinct sound that I would describe as huge and warm with a real sweet yet cutting mid presence, It does a very good job of sounding like a P, PJ or Stingray if you want it to. About the only two tones I haven't been able to get out of it real well are the classic Jazz bridge pickup growl or the similar growly hi-fi tone of boutique basses.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Very well put together bass. The satin neck is a dream to play but it has slight dead spots A string 3rd fret and G string 5th fret. It also wasn't set up great when I got it. The strings were at slightly different heights and it was not intonated right. But with the tools supplied, that was fixed in 30 minutes. Fretwork was great and the finish is spectacular. The tuners are very nice too. The wood binding is really gorgeous. This bass has no body contouring and if you play with your right forearm resting on the bass it could be a little uncomfortable. If you wear your bass low it won't be a problem.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Sure seems like a very well built bass. Solid hardware, nice thick glossy finish and nothings loose.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have never had problems so I really can't rate this.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing bass 18 years and have had a chance to play quite a few basses. I own a Fender PJ, MM Stingray, Tobias Growler, a Yamaha and a Rick Turner custom. This is my favorite bass ever. I would absolutely try to get another if it was lost or stolen, though a solid ASAT would be just as fine. I love the super cool looks of this thing as well as it's amazing tone. There is nothing for me to hate. Except maybe that I don't have enough coin to get a fretless version. I hate that.
