I'm so glad to have a G&L El-Toro 1984 Bass Guitar S/N B014839. Excelent Condition, 4 strings, 21 frets, Made in the USA by Leo Fender & George Fulerton. A rare bird. Professional Bass. Swamp ash natural gloss jazz stile body, maple neck and rosewood fingerboard. Two passive Jazz Bass like Magnect Field Design (MFD) mini humbucking with active circuitry. Controls vol., bass and treble functioning in active or passive mode, 3 mini troggles: choose the pickups, humbucker-single coil mode and on-off active circuit. G&L tuners and massive saddle lock bridge. HScase included.

Great sound!! One of the best G&L sounds in the market. I like the medium fast attack of the combination Ash/MFD. I play jazz, blue and brazilian music and the versatility of this bass is the must. Finally I have discovered why Fender caled this bass "EL TORO"... The bull in spanish: Stupid, brave and indomable outputs with a richness of jazz bass gamma of nuances and variables sounds!
The gamma of sounds is nothing than amazing. The minihumbuckers puts out pro quality tone. They are very versatile give me surprising tonal flexibility; leading single or double coils varying textures from jazz bass to fine gears like Fodera and Ken Smith. With the G&L Magnetic Field Design pickups (i.e. MFD pickups), I ever get that signature G&L tone . . . a little growl and a little bite. It has more midrange than L-2000 MFD being exceptionally fine sounding for modern slap and pop styles of playing. I did not have idea of the bull's sound till I've played one.

Action, Fit, & Finish

Cosmetically in wonderful shape and weighs in at only 9 lbs. Solid top, jazz stile swamp ash body transparent gloss finish, straight maple neck and low action rosewood fingerboard. The ash body is substantial and gives this bass a nice sound. The neck is somewhere between the G&L L-1000 and SB-2 designs, measuring 1 11/16-inches at the nut and its thin depth makes for some very fast playing. Nothing like the baseball bat neck that is found on most P-basses. The G&L saddle lock bridge is a massive chunk of metal and helps this axe achieve almost limitless sustain and resonance.

Well, more than 23 years of very good services. Bass is Active use 9v Battery mounted in back of Bass. Bass was used in A 32 track Digital studio most of its life. It is set up correctly now by Gene Garland, 40 Yrs Experience repairing stringed instruments.

This bass is the "real deal" and is more "Fender" than any Fender bass I have ever owned in my lifetime. However, nothing, and I mean NOTHING, can touch the quality, sound, top-shelf construction and playability of this G&L EL TORO bass. Without question, Leo Fender hit a 5-run homer with this axe and it simply is the best production bass on the market, bar none.
I can't believe that the current G&L owners (BBE took over after Leo died in 1991) stopped production of this fine instrument in 1991. What a shame! G&L rules the bass waves, no doubt, with the best sound and fit & finish in the business for the investment. Believe it dudes, I speak the truth.
