This is a 1986 belair green,L-100 with a alder body and a maple fretboard, it was in dicks music shop in GreenBay Wi. since the late 90's and he got it new I cannot find any info on this model anybody know? The pickups were faded but that was it.Dick Shultz the owner had it for years in the store but because of the color it wouldn't sell for $1,500.00, then some kid droped it and bam the price went down to $500.00 "sorry Mr. Shultz" and I jumped on it! Back in the 80's everything was hand made at G&L the necks hand carved etc.Gave it a 9 because of nicking and minor damage. But that is all!

Sound : 10
It sounded good and and all, But I wanted to have a more traditional p-bass sound. So they ordered a Seymour Duncan vintage p-bass pickup unpotted and repotted it,with white pickup covers from all part, put flat wound strings on the bass..And pow it is so awsome, it made me kick a 25th annver.fender p-bass to the curve. I know some of you reading this will shake with indignation when you read that I swaped out the neck for a rosewood neck from a 83 sb-1 but it is what I wanted and I have the neck on the swap ash 83 and they seemlessly swithched both having 3 bolts each.I am running it thru a 68 ampeg b-15 and I nail jamerson's sound cold with tone rolled back to 1/2.It is so warm and looks like it came out 1n the 60's musicians really dig it, sure some Fender nazi's say it sucks...but then why do they keep wanting to play it? The same guys to it seems and can"t stop smileing or get pissed off that my $500.00 G&L just trumped their $3500.00 reissue? IT just sounds devine and plays really well no dead spots or bad intonation.I am just so happy.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The only thing wrong was the string tree was 1/2 of mill to high.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This bass I think will last till I die and beyond, paint, frets etc. it is just a great bse and the 83 is a road warrior too.the 86 is for recording or rare safe gigs.the ash bodyed 83 is my gig bass.It looks like it was in Desert Storm but it is great,I play lated 50's to modern with it and yes it has flat wounds and a Seymour Duncan in it too. it is not as warm as the 86 but it rocks, and with that ash body and maple fret board I even do Iron Madien and Megadeth with it.It has been back and forth from Europe2 x now and draged all over Germany and The other nato nation I am in the U.S. Army.

Customer Support : No Opinion
haven't had to call beside warranty died moment the neck and pickups changed.

Overall Rating : 10
been playing since 1986 and I don't even touch other basses anymore this was it..all I needed..You just cannot top a old hand made G&L type p.bass onless you get a custom made one for $4,000.00 or the like.
