Excellent sustain. Ability to slap or plunk. Every type of sound for modern playing. The passive and active ability rock. There are controls galore to shape your sound. Ed Friedland gives an amazing review on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WT4AP58jC5o

It doesn't ring in a Rickenbacker sound (gotta still buy those if you like them). It doesn't ring in a Jazzy sound (Gotta still buy your Fenders) but it does everything else so well you won't believe the sticker price.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Superb. Everything looks like quality. Stays in tune, nice tuners. Neck frets well done. Finish is beautiful. Knobs are solid. Switches are small so you don't accidentally hit them! The bridge is really solid and adjustable. Amazing. If they can make basses like this in Indonesia, then Indonesia is the next Japan.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Have to be truthful, I've only kept this indoors. So it hasn't been put through the ropes. But I've had other guitars with finished that crack just looking at a doorway so this finish is well done. The hardware looks solid. No plastic except for the pickup (isn't that weird). It lives up, as it says, as a Tribute to the master luthier's (Mr. Fender) top of the line G&L's.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't had any issues to deal with, so I can't rate this.
But I did talk to Ed Friedland and HE answered every Bass question on earth I could have had. Super nice guy, a real hero to the Bass community. Ed, you ROCK! (should be reviews on people here at Harmony!)

Overall Rating : 10
I've had a few basses. A Kramer split head aluminum neck. Played lots of Fenders. Never owned one, but since everyone has one, you can always just borrow them. They are real good. Heck, even some of the new Squire Jazz series basses belie their low end price. This price isn't the lowest end, but it's a tribute to the 2 thousand dollar G&L's so it has a big reputation to live up to and it excels.

You can't get the classic old bass sound, but you can do electronic, funk, modern rock/metal etc very well. As long as you know what you are buying, what it can and can't do, you'll know what you're getting it for.

Since I heard its sound in a sweet review, I knew what I was getting and it IS what it was reviewed and meant to be.

To be what you are supposed to be is a 10.

Not sure, but I heard these were made in indonesia.....same specs as above

I tried this bass out a few years ago and didn't have the money.....I will soon, and this will be my bass of choice! I tried it out again, and wow! No, really I want to say wow very quietly because I want you to say "what is that bass that you are playing" I want to quietly say it's a G&L tribute l-2000 and tell you it's my amp that gives me that awesome tone that you so graciously told me that I have. So, shoosh....be quiet...want the tone that you are seeking? Don't tell anyone! It's this bass. Please, no more reviews, lets keep this to ourselves.

Everyone I have picked up and played seems flawless, and I was looking real hard knowing that it wasn't made in the USA.

Looks to be built like a tank....hmmm ala Leo Fender

Been playing for 21 years, and I know my equipment. I have always been the "bang for the buck buyer" but have owned many pricy basses ala Tobias, spector, fender, ibanez....lets just put it this way. This is a Toby meets Leo type of bass. As far as different tones? You bet. Playability is much like Fender/Toby. And those of you whom like myself have played Spectors and Ibanez's, but realized how playable the Fenders are but don't like the tone so much...this is it, but don't tell anyone! If I had one wish it would be the look. It looks much Like a Fender(wonder why?...lol) All I can say is this....play everything in the store and go to other stores and play them, and don't care about the price......then play this Bass. I like a good looking bass but this "creeper" is gonna be sitting with the rest of my rig ASAP and I am gonna be nothing but smiles as I play it.

The Tribute Series is made in Korea, but is wired with the exact same electronics as the American made G&L's. I think they are even set up in the US. This one has the old standard 21 frets, a one-piece maple neck and fretboard, swamp ash body (premium version), the G&L Tri-Tone electronics package (2 active/passive humbucking pickups, 3 way pickup selector, series/parallel switch, passive/active/active w/treble boost switch, bass knob, treble knob), and a nice solid G&L Tribute bridge.

Holy cow. This thing is a tone monster. You can get a myriad of tones just with what's on the guitar. I frequently flip a switch in between songs rahter than my old habit of having several basses on stage to get the sounds I wanted for each song. It can do a mean MusicMan impersonation, a punchy P-bass sound, or a smooth Jazz tone with ease. But why imitate when you can create your own? This thing also has some serious output. If you aren't careful, your signal will clip like mad. Roll off a bit on the volume knob, and get ready. This thing will have you playing with your amp finding new and awesome tones again.

For the most part, the fit and finish on the bass was great. The paint was flawless, everything was tight and secure. But the fretjob and nut needed some TLC. The nut hung over on both sides, almost like it's a robot job. they probably have it so that the nut is pre-shaped and sized. When it doesn't fit just perfectly, you get the reason why the US made G&L's are more expensive. But, a little filing and finish sanding made it perfect.

The frets had the same problem. The ends were just plain sloppy. But, again, a little TLC from a fine-cut flat file, then a once over with some 1000 and 2000 grit paper took away those nasty edges. Were it not for these 2 faults, it would have recieved a perfect 10 here as well.

This bass is tough as nails. the neck feels solid and sturdy, the body doesn't have a bunch of intricate cuts that heave a fragile piece of wood in danger of being broken away.... It's just a great solid bass. The strap buttons aren't strap-locks, but they are the newer buttons that are a larger diameter than buttons on my other, older guitars.

It's G&L. The best support is to make a guitar that doesn't need it.

I've been playing for enough years that I know what I like and what I don't. I like this bass. The only thing I don't like about this bass is that I did not get one sooner. I am getting a 5 string of this model, and don't forsee the need for any other basses in my arsenal, save for the Ibanez with bartolini's and an active pre. The only reason I'm keeping that one is that it gets the one tone that these basses can't do. Really scooped out mids. ?There is no mid control on this bass, so I am forced to keep my trusty Ibanez. But I only play two songs with it, and then I get back to playing with this one. I dig how this bass plays. Has a bigger feel, without feeling like an antiquated P-bass log. I also like how much output this thing has, even though it can be a pain sometimes. It's the first bass I have owned that the volume knob isn't all the way up all the time. It's a great bass, with a great tone, at a great price.
