Great Gibson sound: cuts through the mix with deep but defined bottom end. Versatile - I have no problem getting nice crisp highs as well as bone shaking lows. Strung with roundwounds, it produces nice harmonics and a piano-like tone when slapped or picked, and it will growl when you want it to. I get a lot of compliments on the sound of this bass (as well as my other Gibsons) from sound men, and they hear them all.
I use an Ampeg B4R head with a BBE compressor, an Ampeg PR-1832HE cab for large rooms & outside gigs, and an Ampeg PRO-Series 15 cab for small rooms. .045/.105 roundwound DRs or GHS strings sound great on this bass.

Set-up was good from the factory; no intonation or neck issues. Frets are perfect. The finish is excellent, with the exception of some rough laquer adjacent the neck on the top of the body; I don't know if this area is just dificult to buff due to the set-neck, but the same condition exists on my LP Std bass, and my SG Re-Issue. This is not a very obvious flaw, and not an issue for me, but It is there.
This bass has a "Corian" (as in counter-top) nut. I've had problems with this type of nut before, and will have it replaced with bone.

I've been playing only Gibsons for the last few years, and have had no problems with reliability. They are well built, and have excellent hardware - no reason to bring a back-up.

As I've never had a problem with a Gibson; I have no experience with customer service.

I've been playing for almost 40 years; It's a shame it took me 36 of those to try a Gibson! I've owned Fenders, Ibanez, Yamaha, and a Ric, but have never enjoyed any other bass as much as my Gibsons.
The Double Cut (now Money Bass) is a real player. It has a narrow fast neck with great action, and nice beefy bridge - good sustain. It's fairly light and very comfortable to play. The sound is, in my opinion, simply the best.

very fat and warm sound. reminds me of the moment when i first plugged my spector into a boogie 400+ ... warm, warm, warm.
play it with a yamaha bbt500-2 amp, a 2*10 and a 2*12 cabinet (custommade by fmc, germany)
sounds range from fat + warm rocksounds with a lot of bottom, to nice slapping sounds (2 pus on) and to 7ender jbass similar sounds on the neck pu. doesn't deliver that much higs, though.

I've been playing for 20 years. apart from the gibson, i own/play a g+l tribute 2500, zon legacy 4, ibanez musician 904 fretless, hamer chapparall 12string, guild ashbory, cimar jbass.
ampwise: see above under features.
i probably would replace it if it were stolen. i absolutely love the easy handling. apart, it's light as a feather (compared to the tribby)

Manufactured in 2006 - bought it brand new. (Even had the local store get one specially for me and send it home to me, noone in my area usually carries Gibson basses.)
34" scale, 24 frets, as the name states a double cutaway body. It?s made in mahogany with a rosewood finger board, two passive pickups that offer a wide variety of sound. It?s actually a very beautiful bass to look at!
The weight is very nice - it?s very light.

I really like the sound of this bass. You can vary it. I play mostly rock music and it fits like a glove! Perhaps too much bottom and too little top if one were to play funkier stuff but perfect for me!

Actually... I so much would have liked to write a ton of really good things here, but I?m not able to!
The bass wasn?t set up at all when I received it. The strings were actually touching the neck!!! The truss rod is loose in the neck and no matter how much one tries to adjust it it?s making buzzing sounds when the bass is played! Also, no matter how you adjust the neck and string height there is the most annoying fret buzz I?ve ever heard from a bass.
This bass was brand new. Still it has a big mark on the upper horn, big marks on the fretboard and a "ding" on the lower part of the body.
I also got the wrong tools in the case - clearly for a guitar and not fitting anywhere on a bass...
The interesting thing is that there IS a quality certificate in the box where my countries agent have checked things like "finish" and "truss rod" as approved!
I hoped and prayed that it would be possible to adjust the neck problems away but it is clearly not so I have made a decision to send it back. Perhaps it is repairable, perhaps I will get a replacement. I really don?t know and I?m mighty disappointed - this IS a brand new ?2.000 instrument and should be as good as perfect!!!
I have several other Gibson instruments and I have never experienced any problems, I consider Gibson a high quality brand, this is why I dared buy an instrument without examining it properly first...

I?m sure that the bass would withstand live playing - I never got around to taking it that far! This far I have had to touch the truss rod adjustment every five minutes to keep it from making strange sounds...
The strap buttons are far too small for an instrument this size - the straps keep falling off!

Well... I?ve actually tried contacting Gibson support about the bass, I got a quick and friendly reply telling me that they really can?t help me and that I have to talk to their agent in my country.
That agent does not answer the telephone when I?m calling, but the music store where I bought it will help me send the bass back. I did ask if it would be possible to get a replacement at once, but the agent claims that they will have to get it back and check it out first.
Frankly, I am very worried!!! I don?t know what will happen now - it?s all up to my local agent and it?s not possible to reach them. If they decide that the bass is ok the way it is I will get it back with truss rod buzz, fret board buzz and all. Perhaps they will try to repair it themselves and make it better or worse, perhaps they will send it back to Gibson for repairs. Perhaps they will provide me with a new bass and perhaps I will get my money back. Lots of "maybe" in there - I must wait, worry and see!
Also, the music store told me that the technician at the agent in my country is very busy and there is no telling how long I must wait! In the meantime, I have spent approx ?2.000 on an instrument that I don?t have!

I have played bass since the mid 80?s, approximately 60 gigs last year. I mainly play Gibson basses and I have an SG-Z as my main bass (I also play a SB350 a G3 and a vintage Rickenbacker.) I play through an Ampeg combo with nice sound and gig-friendly weight.
I wanted this bass as a complement to my SG-Z, I love that bass a lot and there are places where I?m afraid to bring it. If I get this one back in good shape or a new one that works well I will be very happy, if I get my money back instead I will buy something else!
